PLEASE NOTE: This was a non Emergency situation. Yesterday I took my cat to Wilson's Veterinary after my local vet ran out of answers and recommended a specialist. It was our first time there, and I was pleasantly surprised they even offer Sunday appointments. We saw Dr. Garrett, who was incredibly kind, thorough, and genuinely attentive. She reviewed his entire file before meeting us and actually listened to the details we shared about his behavior. We discussed a clear path forward, and he's now scheduled for surgery to have most of his teeth removed. I appreciate that this location has 18 veterinarians, several of whom specialize in dental care, and that they handle everything in-house, including blood work. So far, I'm very happy with the quality of care and professionalism at this veterinary hospital. I'll post a separate review after his surgery. read more

Those that give 1 star are probably in the emergency section. If your pet is not critical, all critical patients come first. I've been to their ER with both critical & non-critical. I can state yes, there is an extensive wait for non-critical, but was very grateful when I had a critical case that I was allowed to "skip the line" & got taken care of immediately. It would behoove though to peek in on those patients waiting and let them know what's going on when there's a long wait. read more

I want to start off by saying I do not typically write reviews for places, in fact this may be my first. I was relieved to find an emergency vet open in the area not knowing hours later I wouldn't be bringing my dog home with stitches, in fact I wouldn't be bringing him home at all. When I brought my dog into Wilson Veterinary hospital he was in pretty rough shape. He had several wounds on his back end that were wide open and actively bleeding as we walked in. We weren't sure of the direct cause so we were worried about possible infections and just how deep the wounds really were. They were quick to to take him back and triage him, but that is the extent of the quick service we received while there. Not only did we watch every single person in that waiting room come and go, but we had also waited 5 hours before being put in a room. This room was not for our dog to finally get treatment he so desperately needed, it was to please us and make us believe that help was on the way. We paced in that room for an hour before they even re triaged him. That is the first time in 6 hours someone else had looked at him again and checked on his condition because at the beginning they had deemed him "not critical". At this point the tech tells us the doctor, the only one available while they continuously took more and more patients, will be in shortly. Not to our surprise the doctor showed up maybe thirty minutes later telling us how concerned she was, that he needed a big surgery, and that he would be top priority on her surgery board. As you can imagine this was frustrating after being denied treatment 6 and a half hours now. She then refused to address that his age(he was 16) might be an issue with putting him under anesthesia. He had also had significant trauma but the doctor said recovery would only be "1-2 days". After all of this reassurance and our now 7 hours of waiting we were hit with an almost $5,000 quote for his surgery. They told us we either had to commit to the surgery at 2am or the only other option was to put him down. None of our family was awake to give input or say goodbye and after sitting with him in pain for the last couple hours we made the decision to put him down. I felt no compassion from the techs or doctors there and it made the entire procedure so much more difficult. At one point the doctor tried to crack a joke to us while the needles with the medicine to put him down were on the counter. If you have a loved one that needs treatment I would advise you to go anywhere else. The lack of transparency and overall service from the staff is not something I would want anyone else to experience. read more

If I could leave zero stars I would. I found an injured animal outside and tried to take care of it myself. Then I realized it had a whole in its neck and so I called multiple emergency rooms to have it triaged. Finally found this one that had openings. I took the cat in but then needed to go to work. I received a phone call that I had abandoned it and that they would be contacting animal control. Again this is not my cat and making threatens is crazy. I agreed to pay for the cats vet care but they refused to tell me if the cat was okay if it needed work or if it needed to be euthanized so it wouldn't be in pain. They told me I had to come back in person to discusss anything. Ridiculous. Again not even my pet. I asked if it was okay can you tell me if it's even okay. They refused to tell me anything. For all I know it could already be dead. I wouldn't trust these people with my pet let alone my money. Don't take your pets here. They don't care about the actual health of the animal just how they can bring you in to charge you. I'm very dissatisfied and they did not care how upset this made me to not even know if the cat was okay. I said u don't even have to tell me the charges just tell me if the kitten is okay or not they refused. I will never forget seeing my dog, Luigi, die in my arms at Wilson Veterinary Hospital (WVH), all while he screamed in complete horror, agony and pain. WVH did not treat Luigi's needed surgery as urgent but rather treated it as an elective procedure -- making him wait in the hospital for days -- which caused his bladder to rupture, him needing an additional (emergency) procedure, and thousands of dollars invoiced to me all while Luigi suffered greatly. This hospital is out for the money, instead of ensuring the best outcomes for their patients and their families. My dog is dead -- I'm thousands of dollars in debt more than originally invoiced -- and it's all due to WVH's negligence. I have been going to Wilson's for over 12 years. I even travel over an hour to get to them. Historically, I credit them with saving my cat's life when he was just a kitten. I even order all his Rx food/treats from them and have for 12 years. That being said, if I could now give them a negative billion stars I would. I will also be filing a complaint with the licensing board about this vet. This shall not stand. Yesterday, I rushed my cat to Wilson's (ER vet) when he began urinating/defacating on himself. He was panting heavily and drooling by the time we got there. His heart rate appeared high. He had been vomiting a lot recently and refusing to eat. They told us he was hypothermic. His temp was only 96 (any temp below 100 requires immediate hospitalization for a feline or can be terminal). He is an indoor cat and had not been wet. They started warming him. They discovered a mass on his liver. He was angry and not being cooperative. After 2-3 hours, the vet said they had "no beds to hospitalize him" and so she was sending me HOME with pain meds, appetite stimulant, and anti-nausea meds. She said "you should call around and see if you can get him in for a diagnostic ultrasound". I asked why they couldn't do the ultrasound since THEY did them and she said that she would NORMALLY HOSPITALIZE this animal and do so, but they had no beds. She made NO efforts to call any other places to find a bed for him, or even give me a sheet of paper for me to call other places!! She didn't even tell me to take him to a hospital, she told me to take him home. I asked what his current temp was and she said 97. I asked how I was supposed to manage maintaining his body temp and wasn't that dangerous?! I told her I had heated cat beds and blankets at home and he ignored them. She told me I could put "warmies" on him and I would have to frequently take his temperature. I asked her how I was supposed to keep him still enough to keep those on him since she had just met my hostile little fur-man? She also did not tell me 1) what kind of thermometer I needed; 2) what the temperature reading was I wanted (I know the above from Google); 3) what to do if the temperature reading was too high/too low; 4) instructions on how to rectally take it so as not to injure the animal; etc. NOTHING. NADA. ZILCH. My cat is like my 2nd son. I was eventually able to get him to a hospital equipped with the diagnostic equipment to meet his needs. It took us 15 minutes longer to get to that place from Wilson's than if I would have went directly home. By the time we got there, he was panting so heavily, and his breathing/heart was so fast, that I was seriously concerned he might die en route. I had called ahead and they were waiting at the doors for him. They whisked him away and just put his entire mesh carrier in a heated/oxygen chamber for HOURS to stabilize him. He remains there in critical condition. He will have his ultrasound today, perhaps a biopsy. Don't go to Wilson's. They don't care if your animals die. read more

I have been bringing my furry family to Wilson's for 25 + years. I have recommended the practice to multiple people in my life and have always been very happy with the service that I have received. Since Dr. Wilson has sold the practice, I have noticed the immediate change. It has been getting worse every year! You would think as big as they are they would have appointments available to their clients to avoid having to use their UC. They tell you go to Urgent Care but if you have ever used their UC it's a minimum 5 hours wait time if you are lucky. URGENT and CARE are two words Wilson has no idea the meaning of. My golden had a possible ear infection and a growing hematoma on her ear. I called Thursday, Friday and Saturday for an appointment and inquired if Monday or Tuesday had any appointments. I was told UC every time! Sunday, 7/20/2025, I arrived at 4pm I was #5 in the wait line. By 7 pm I was still number 5. I work FT and would prefer NOT to use UC to be seen by a doctor who has no clue who my dog is, her history or anything about her! When I asked the girl behind the desk if she thought we would be seen in the next few hours, she politely smirked and said nope. She added between emergencies and recheck appointments it would be later. Wait what? APPOINTMENTS? For UC? I can't get an appointment with her regular vet at Wilson's. Back in March of 2024. It was horrible enough when my 16 yr old Yorkie needed to crossover the rainbow bridge and they sent us to UC with the promise we wouldn't wait! We waited, saw a doctor who didn't know my dog, didn't know the history. It was a stressful situation and made worse by a vet who had no clue about my dog. I am currently so disgusted, disappointed, and frustrated with Wilson's lack of compassion towards my furry family that I am now considering looking for a veterinarian with care and compassion for their furry clients. read more

We had to take our 12 year old Golden Retriever in because she had a serious cough and was panting heavily and she had been getting steadily worse over the last 2-3 days. When Dr. Willauer (he had done 2 surgeries on her a year ago so he knew her) came in after getting the x-rays and blood work I knew the news was bad because he just about had tears in his eyes. Tests and x-rays showed she had a build up of fluid around her heart and advanced cancer. He said she was in significant discomfort and would probably not last much longer and said it was time to let her go. The Dr and staff were all very kind and very compassionate during what is the worst part of owning a pet. We are grateful for trying to make the task a little easier. read more

I drove over an hour each way every night while my cat was here and stayed for HOURS. They always asked if I needed anything, how we were doing and kept me up to date on my baby. They were quick to diagnose him and promptly got him into surgery while maintaining good care of him for over a week! Safe to say I trust them for any future emergencies. DO NOT TAKE UR PET HERE Dr Keith Burke should not b a vet. We made the mistake of taking r 5 1/2 yr old cat there for emergency. After taking her vitals we waited over 3 1/2 hours while they served everyone else they came in after us deeming them more important. We finally were ready to leave & go eusewhere & they took us so we allowed him to asses her condition. After X-rays & a blood panel Dr Burke told us that she had kidney stones & 1 was blocking her urethra so the only acceptable treatment was to catheter her to drein her bladder then worry bout breaking up the stones. Another acceptable procedure would have been to stent her urethra open. Dr Burke instead recommended we leave her for 4 days while they "tried" to dissolve the stones over a 4 day stay for about $4000 we knew something was wrong & decided to leave. He gave her a subqutaneous fluid bag & a shot of antibiotics & 2 injections 1 to protect her heart & another to help dissolve the stones & they forgot to give us her pain meds which we'd paid for. We went home looked up kidney stones & found the only treatment which shoulda been immed done was a catheter. Called back Wilson's that day & asked the receptionist why that was not on his opts for treatment. She asked the other vet there @ that time why & that Dr said cause they do not have catheter equipt there. There's only 3 places in Michigan that do & ovrs is 1 of those places blue pearl is the other & msu is the 3rd. So instead of transferring her data directly to OVRS & referring us directly there which would have saved her life he wasted her time which was vital in this situation & we took her to OVRS after learning this & it was too late. She'd already went Into toxic shock & it was irreversible so not only did he not make the right call he tried to kill r cat with improper treatment opts which he did not have the equipt to handle. If he'd have immed transferred r data & referred us to OVRS r cat would b alive still cause they would have simply drained her bladder. It disgusts me that we lost r 5 1/2 yr old cat to Dr Burkes ignorance & medical malpractice. He's a vet so he should know that & the correct thing to have done woulda been to immed refer us to OVRS & he did not even bring it up. This place is terrible. Out of the other 6 patients they saw before us while wasting r time in the 3 1/2 hr wait he had euthanized 3 of those 6 patients. Not a good vet or a good person even. He should have known as a vet to transfer r data & refer us to OVRS who could have handled it & has a catheter equipt & woulda been able to save her life. Because he did not refer us & the data was just over 24 hrs old we had to even repay for that so that OVRS could see if the stones had moved or lodged further so it was incredibly painful as an experience. I do not recommend anyone ever take their pets to this place for emergency services. Dr Burke should not even b a vet if he did not know that a simple catheter woulda saved her life & refused to give that as an opt cause they did not have the equipt so he gave us other 4000 oots which would have killed her over a 4 day stay while he wanted to pump more fluids into her which would have only made it worse. This is absolutely unforgivable esp for a vet. He's allowing pets there to die even if they r saveable just cause he's too greedy to refer them to the proper facility which would have saved her life had he not wasted all of r cats time. Just disgusting & inexcusable. & yes a vet that studied & is a vet should have known a cath woulda saved her life. Simple but nope. He didn't have the cath equipt & just did not care & still tried to keep her there to make $4000 killing her. He should not b a vet if I researched it & found the cath & then called Wilson's back to ask why that treatment was not offered & the other vet told the truth. Cause they do not have a cath equipt there. So why did Dr Burke not know this & transfer r data & refer us immed to OVRS where they woulda still been able to save her life. Conflicted about 3 stars. However, when we came 2 yrs ago we had Dr. Vitale. He was awful, non caring and when my Bear had a problem I emailed him and his first answer without even seeing Bear was remove the TPLO hardware. Wasn't needed. I decided to go back because Wilson's does come so highly regarded and far cheaper than anyone. I requested Dr. Wilson. He was amazing. Took a lot of time with Bear and us. I got the answers I was looking for. He didn't even charge us the amount we were quoted on the phone! So I give Dr Vitale zero stars but Dr Wilson 5 stars read more

This past week we had to bring our 8-year-old miniature Schnauzer in for an emergency exam as she was not well. Heavy breathing and lethargic. We suspected the worse, and had initially reached out to a local vet hospital near our home in Bloomfield MI. However, that hospital said we would need to wait for 3 to 6 hours in their lobby until our dog could be seen. We called Wilson, as our prior Schnauzer was treated their about 9 years ago, with excellent results. When we called Wilson VH, they were by far the most helpful on the phone, asking us specific questions and had us check her gums and a few other things. They took all her information over the phone and was ready to see her after our 30-mile drive to their facility. After a thorough exam, the vet spent a significant amount of time explaining the nature of the masses found, and our options for treatment of her cancer. The cost was very reasonable, even with the medications provided. We elected a hospice approach, and trying homeopathic like: Turmeric, Milk Thistle, and a Keto diet approach (as Cancer thrives on simple Carbohydrates). We were home in less than 3 hours from the time we left! Avoiding a painful wait at another vet hospital. Wilson VH may be a bit far, but worth the drive in many ways. We won't go anywhere else for pet care, for our current dog and any future pets! They are the BEST!! read more

Waited 8 hours for my cat to be seen after being told to bring him right in when I said he was showing signs of blocking. They misdiagnosed him with an infection and he got sicker two days later. they never followed up nor told me the results of the urine culture which they charged extra for. I took him to Oakland Veterinary Services where he was diagnosed with a kidney stone and other issues and was attended to quickly and professionally. Please do not take your cat there. read more

I don't want to leave 1 star because of the respect I have for the rest of the staff. But DO NOT let Dr Vitale touch your pet. PLEASE. I don't know how they still let him work there. This man not only completely butchered my cats femur, but he completely dismissed me as I pleaded with him for a week telling him his surgery failed and I was certain her leg immediately re-fractured the moment we got home. Turns out I was right. He took her fixator off without even scanning to make sure the bone was healed. I posted her scans in a board certified ortho vet forum and EVERYONE was saying that not only was their not significant enough healing but also called out MULTIPLE things that were done wrong. Thank god dr Wilson was available to fix what dr Vitale destroyed. What was worse. Even after a week of pleading with him just for him to continue making me feel like I was over reacting and telling me to "leave her be" and she was "100% healed we checked" .......he didn't check. There were no scans from that day, and he didn't even give a F to call, email, text, or anything to apologize for what was clearly his fault. It's not been 5 months and my baby still isn't fully healed. The hospital owned it. Covered the cost of the 2nd repair. Crickets from Dr V. And what about covering the expense of the losses suffered from the dozen and a half times I've now had to take off work to get her to all her follow up appointments for a repair that should have been healed three months ago. So thankful for Wilson Veterinary Hospital! My puppy was vomiting and I knew something was wrong, after not being able to get into any vet, this was recommended to me. I arrived and checked in and waited for my turn - they take the most critical patients first so it can be a long wait, but that is completely understandable. They took X-rays and figured out why my fur baby was not feeling well. Before I left they explained the treatment plan and outlined what the costs may have looked like. I appreciated that before they did surgery, they tried to use fluids first to push the foreign object out before resorting immediately to anesthesia and a possibly life threatening surgery for my fur baby. They called me before and after surgery and gave me updates during my dogs stay. They were so kind and even let me call and ask for updates. I was pleasantly surprised that the cost was less than my deposit and they refunded me the difference. Called to take my dog in for an emergency. Their waitlist system involves calling upon arrival, clicking the link and checking your place in line. I was "number 2" in line for an hour and a half. I went back into the room finally (after contemplating leaving) and the tech wrote down his symptoms. Waited a bit longer and the vet never showed up so we left. Out of courtesy I told the tech at the door "we're going to leave" is all I said. She said "ok" and shook her head acknowledging. Didn't ask why, didn't tell me how soon the doctor would've came in, didn't apologize, didn't follow up to see how my dog was the next day or if he had made it. My dog was not seen by a doctor or treated after waiting for 2 hours on the emergency waitlist and in the exam room. The text message stating "thanks for your patience and kindness", the massive sign when you walk through the doors saying they won't tolerate unkind people, and the signs saying to be nice and they are short staffed in each of the exams room are a clear sign you're about to get the worst customer service experience of your life. I could not be happier or more thankful for all of the staff at Wilson's. We were sent home from our regular vet after being told our mini dachshund may or may not have an obstruction but we could wait a day and see how it went. We got home and within hours she wasn't doing well. We took her up to Wilson's and although we did have a long wait (there were lots of critical emergencies coming in that night) once we were seen the doctor immediately told us she had an obstruction, she'd be admitted for hospitalization, and put at the top of list for surgery. We got plenty of updates through her stay from the staff, and they helped ease my nerves about everything. She had a successful surgery and I know she got lots of love and made as comfortable as possible while she was there. She ended up staying for 3 nights but is home and resting with us. I truly cannot thank the staff enough for everything they did - including quite literally saving her life. read more

Everyone seems to have mixed reviews about veterinarians, doctors, restaurants, or whatever. On here, I saw 1 star reviews with horrible experiences and 5 star reviews with excellent experiences. I guess it's all subjective to your own personal experience and, of course, the circumstances that brought you here in the first place. When reading reviews here, you have to keep in mind that if you're here in the emergency, your baby is likely having a bad day, and so are the many other people here. I can certainly draft this review from experience now as we have been here in excess of 30 or more times in the past few months, coupled with one of our fur babies staying over 10 days in intensive care. We actually had two dogs here at one time for a night during the same time. At this point, we are deep enough to have bought a reasonable priced new car and joke with the staff that I should get rewards points. With all that said, I still feel they are very reasonable priced, I do not feel gouged in any way, and other than my credit card screaming at me, I feel like they earned every penny. I can't say this about some of their competitors whom I have also visited over the years. Unfortunately, Wilson's is often a busy place. There is a reason for that. They have a lot of people who trust their beloved pets to them. I've been here many times over the past few months and have nothing but good to say. They didn't always get everything right, but they have definitely done the best they could. Keep in mind that our fur baby's can't exactly tell us what's wrong with them, and often, it can be challenging to figure it out. If you come here through the emergency, it's hit or miss. I've seen all night waits and also got right in. I also find that when you have established a relationship with them, they are even more responsive. Everyone here has been so kind on every visit here. Most of their many staff members now know us by name. We have now moved all our pets here for all their needs. Additionally to having 24-hour emergency services, this place offers everything. They have doggy chiropractors, acupuncture, orthopedics surgeons.... You name it. It's a one-stopp shop.. And they are also not too proud to refer you to someone who might know a little more than them. They literally have been consulting with MSU for us on our difficult medical needs. We can not say enough praise for Wilson's veterinary. They're wonderful staff literally saved our baby's life. read more

My elderly dog had a stroke and the emergency vet in our area, Royal Oak, recommended that we take her to Wilson since they wouldn't cost as much ($1500+ compared to $500+). It was a long way, but I'm so glad we did. Everyone was so kind and understanding, we didn't have long waits due to her being in such bad shape, and the vet didn't argue when we chose to have her put to sleep and end her suffering. They gave us plenty of time to say goodbye in a private room, and the vet stayed with us afterward until we were ready to go. They only charged us $100 for the procedure and took care of the cremation details. I am so appreciative of the care and respect for both our old girl and ourselves. read more

In the last year, I have had two very different experiences here, and both were remarkably positive. My first was bringing in a limping adolescent cat who, after hours of crying, suddenly felt better the moment the veterinarian walked in. Dr. Vitale was incredibly understanding and thorough in his examination. He listened attentively to my explanation and asked questions about her usual behavior before sending me home with medicine and instructions on what to watch for. My second experience was much more urgent. I brought in my 19-year-old cat, who had rapidly declined in the middle of the night. I called on my way, and she was immediately taken back and put on the ventilator they had prepared for her. Dr. Kabacinski was an absolute blessing that night. We discussed the treatment options, and factoring in her personality, we decided that the best route for her was to let her go. Dr. Kabacinski was incredibly kind and supportive, ensuring that my Willow's last experiences were as gentle as possible. Mike was very kind, going over the paperwork with me and ensuring that I wasn't rushed into any decisions. They both made sure that I had the time I needed and the certainty that I had made the right decision for her, and I will always be grateful for their going above and beyond. As much as I hope that I will not have another animal emergency, I am confident that my pets will receive great care from the friendly staff here. They are always very busy, so yes, there is always a wait, but I prefer that they go by severity because when it's your pet, that is how you would want it too. read more

Have used Dr. Wilson 586-939-4020, in Sterling Heights over thirty years. He is the best especially for English Bull Dogs. There are eight doctors at his clinic all are great. The pricing is one third of the Birmingham, Bloomfield, Waterford Clinics. Sometimes it will take 6 wks. for an appointment with Dr. Wilson but that understandable for the best. Two weeks ago my dog Rose needed surgery on her hip and leg for a torn ligament. He told me it might heal on its own with steroids med. 30% chance but I didn't want to see her limp the rest of her life 7 year old English bull dog. She is now recovering nicely. Staples will be removed in three days. They gave me a high and low amount cost for the procedure. The bill turned out to be several hundred less then the low amount.
