It's the only place near us for weekend emergency care. Anything else that says "hospital" doesn't actually see pets in an emergency, unlike here. We've had to take our dogs here twice for eating things they aren't supposed to. They are beagles so it's a battle. Once it was chocolate. They induced vomiting, and we went home. It didn't take long. The second appointment was rough. My dog ate a bottle of my medication. He was having very scary symptoms, but they triaged him to a lower level when another dog came in with seizures. We were there around 6-8 hours, and they ended up keeping our pup overnight for observation and to give iv rx. It was really hard to be in the exam room for so long when given no information and worrying if our dog was going to die. I eventually assumed, well I guess he's going to live, if they are letting us sit around in the room this long without seeing the doctor. In the end, they have taken great care of our dogs and have to triage based on the volume and lack of any other hospital nearby. The price they quoted actually ended up being less than expected, and they refunded us money back. It's clear they care about people and pets. read more

My dog got bit in the neck area. I called Advanced Animal Emergency to see if they were super busy. They answered in a very vague, cryptic way. Very noncommittal in how they responded. It was almost like they didn't want to "tip" their hand and admit they were busy. I just wanted to estimate how long I'd be out of the house to ensure we had childcare long enough for me to take my dog in. With that said, the doctor said he wanted to examine my dog "in the back" without me." I requested he not do that so I could ask and ask questions as they came up during the exam. He recommended an elective surgery to insert drains into my dog's neck to be able to drain the pus and blood in case it got infected. Please note, it would have been completely elective and was a $1500 suggestion for no medical reason. The doctor had a "used car salesman" aura about him. I asked for antibiotics to fight a potential infection and declined the optional surgery. My dog made a full recover after us giving him the prescribed antibiotics. The staff was friendly but I am 100% convinced their lack of knowledge killed my dog. I took him in on a Friday night and he had internal bleeding from his spleen. They removed his spleen and said he was doing great the next morning and could possibly go home that day. I called in the evening and they said that his "blood numbers" went down, but that they did an ultrasound and it was negative for any internal bleeding. She said they wanted to keep him one more night and give him some tranexamic acid (which this lady couldn't even pronounce). I questioned giving it and asked if he was still on IV fluids and she said yes he was on his third bag of lactated ringers. I told her 2-3 liters of fluid is a lot for a 60 lb dog and his Hgb was probably just diluted from the IV fluids, and that I didn't think he needed the TXA since he didn't show any signs of internal bleeding on ultrasound. She said it was "protocol" and rushed me off the phone. The next morning they called and I was hoping it was the call to come get him, but it was that he had thrown a PE overnight and there was nothing they could do for him. Losing your pet is never easy, but when you fully believe it was preventable, and you tried to advocate against their plan and they still went through with it and it led to death -- it has just made this so much harder. I get giving TXA prior to and during surgery with active bleeding, but giving a dog with no signs of active bleeding a clotting medication and then throwing him in the kennel for the night I'm not sure what else you expected to happen, besides the owner being left with an $8,000 bill and a box of ashes. Again, friendly staff and they were able to perform a surgery that could've saved my dogs life -- I just question how "Advanced" their knowledge and decision making is. read more

I highly recommend not going here if you absolutely don't have too...we took our fur baby (13lb mixed terrier) there, had to wait 6 hrs., was told we would need all these tests done, then a $1,000 later, all that was wrong with her was that she tweeted her back frm jumping off our high bed! They had the place sooo cold in there that most of us had to keep goin outside to warm up! The Vet claimed she had fleas, & I told him, she was on Bravecto, so he strongly suggested he give her a one time oral medication to make sure. Once he left the rm, we started looking her over & didn't see one flea on her. So my biggest complaint is that, instead of taking xrays 1st., then accessing those to see if any further action should be taken, they pushed the other stuff! We strongly believe we were taken advantage of, especially being Seniors on a fixed in come! WE WILL NEVER BRING HER BACK THERE AGAIN! I'll be doing my research just in case we have another incident! I also highly recommend Pet insurance, it'll be well worth the money to know it's not gonna break the bank! If you need a emergency vet this is a great place . Our dog had a punctured lung and they got us in right away and the staff was very nice . Dr Maria worked with our sweet pea to remove air from her lung and let us stay so we could be there as soon as she was ready to come home . They gave us the prices and you can even call and ask before hand and get a good estimate . They are kind and a good place to go if you ever need to. read more

Every pet parents worst nightmare is needing to take their pet to the ER! I called both of our usual ER vets (since we've been there before) and Animal Emergency Center in Rochester gave me the resources to find Advanced Animal Emergency. I called before we got in the car to ensure they were going to see us and they set the proper expectations up front that right now they had 1 patient and no news of anyone on the way but that sometimes dire emergencies happen and pets arrive without notice. We hopped in the car and headed in and we were helped immediately. They checked us in and got my Poppy girl into a room within 10 minutes. They came and got her temperature and vitals and took her back to the treatment area within 5-10 minutes from being put in our room. The front desk staff, the vet technicians and Dr. Brown were so helpful, comforting (for me as I was an anxious mess), and took such great care of my girl! They made sure I was up to date on what they were doing and told me she was doing great back there. There was a little bit of a wait but it was due to severely urgent cases so I was more than understanding! I'm grateful to the staff for their expertise and dedication in getting my fur baby Sydney back to me. I brought him in on a Saturday morning after seeing blood in his urine. After a thorough examination I got the bad news that he had no platelets and needed to be admitted immediately. Dr Van and the other staff members worked diligently to get my fur baby's platelets up and vitals stabilized. I picked him up on 1/14 and since then he's had a visit with his regular vet who has an emergency medicine background and his platelets are now well in the normal range and she is pleased with his progress. He wants to play and is eating well. Although, as of his vet visit on 1/16 he's still fighting off an infection, I'm optimistic that he will recover and his next exam on 1/23 will see even better results. No, a very rude lady answered the phone with no compassion. Only ever concerned about prices and money. Always sending you to other places to call. If horse dewormer(Ivermectin paste) can cure cancer in adult humans it can kill cancer and many other fungus parasites in your pets. Stop allowing these vets to rip us off. Also pets don't need vaccines every year or three yrs. Look where vaccines got us. We need to use alternative medications which are starting to be released to us now. My dog hurt herself and I was very worried as she's always been in relatively excellent health - the staff was very caring and kind. The girls/techs treated my girl and me with the utmost respect and kindness. Dr. Pasternak was great as well. They were upfront with their fees and left it up to me if I wanted x-rays, even though the doctor explained that x-ray results wouldn't change the course of treatment for my dog. I was very pleased that they didn't seem predatory in what services they recommended/required. It's never fun taking your pet to the veterinarian, although my dogs have always thought it was a little adventure: there are all these dogs here! And cats, too! But, it's one thing to take your pet for a routine visit; it's quite different when you think something might be wrong. It's reassuring to know that this place is here, and available anytime day or night. More importantly, everybody here seems to really truly care about the well-being of your pet. I was expecting maybe one person behind the counter, and maybe one doctor. But, there were three people behind the counter. Not bad for 9 o'clock on a Sunday. The facilities are clean and very professional, too. After about a 10 minute wait, we were brought into a room. That's fast, even for a vet during normal hours, and I was thinking I'd be in and out of here pretty quickly. After that, it was about an hour and a half before we saw a doctor. I know that the doctor was spending time making sure that another animal was getting the care they needed, but that's a long time. And, it's not cheap: the exam + the X-ray (the biggest part of the expense) set me back $338. Yes, that's a lot of money, but they did show me the breakdown of the costs before they did anything. Of course, I signed off on the cost: I love my dog. I know it would've been cheaper if I waited till I could've made an appointment during normal hours somewhere else, but you're paying for the convenience. As it turned out, he just had a urinary tract infection. They gave me some pills to take with me, and suggested a follow up in two weeks. They are even aware of how expensive they are, because they recommended I go somewhere else for the follow up, because it's cheaper. I appreciate the honesty. I hope I never have to take any of my pets here again, but that's only because it would mean that I'm worried about something serious. If there is something potentially wrong, this is definitely the place I want to take them. read more

The vet came in and listened to her heart- felt up my pup - massaged her leg and after 10 mins with the vet I was advised of the costs and an itemized list of how much a surgery may cost. I had to ask - just maybe we should get X-rays first to determine if that was even necessary.??? I was blown away that the vet went straight to the subject of surgery. Sadly this place makes no effort to show genuine care for your pet or simply make you feel they even care. I will never return and will warn others if the poor professionalism I experienced. Noon on Friday my dog had a heart attack (my words no theirs) screaming in pain. My vet was booked and they suggested other vets in the area. They too were booked. My dog had been suffering from CHF for a year. A her little body was done. Dr Brown at AAE examined her concurred with our euthanasia decision. This clinic was packed! We were in the lot for hours but they did tell me on the phone the doc is with critical animals and would see my dog in between. I wanted to express how loving and sweet the staff at Advanced Animal Emergency is. Our beloved kitty Hugo was throwing up and started having issues breathing. He was taking very shallow fast breaths. We called Advanced Animal Emergency and they got him in right away. They explained all of the treatment costs up front and gave us a range on what to expect. Yes, emergency vets are expensive because just like humans a lot goes into providing emergency care. They aren't just "concerned with money" as a lot of other reviews state. This is typical for any emergency vet to take the money up front. I never once felt what they asked us to do was excessive or just a cash grab. They thoroughly explained why they wanted to do certain tests and things and it all made sense to me. Our kitty was hospitalized for a few days and in an oxygen chamber. They called us daily with updates and let us know before they did any treatment that was not included in the original plan. Every time a doctor spoke with us, they explained what was going on in detail and answered all of our questions. They have people there 24/7 and we were so worried and concerned we called every 5 hours and everyone we spoke with was so kind and helped calm any concerns we had. Unfortunately Hugo took a turn for the worst and we had to say good bye to him last night. The staff was literally crying with us and gave us hugs and complimented on what a sweet and good boy he was. They made a really crappy situation as sweet as it could of been. The people who work here really love and care about the animals. It's apparent. Being a Vet, especially in emergency, is not an easy job. I cannot even begin to imagine some of the things these folks have to experience every day. So from the bottom of my heart, thank all of you for fighting for Hugo. Although it wasn't the outcome we all wanted I am so grateful you all gave him a fighting chance. He meant so much to me and seeing how much you loved him too made it easier to deal with the pain of this situation. I would definitely bring my animals in the future here. I will NEVER EVER bring another animal here. Said they couldn't find the source of our dogs illness, did X-rays, did an exploratory scope, then convinced us that our dog needed exploratory surgery to run her entire stomach/bowel and there was literally nothing. They added on so many chargers that weren't discussed but I'm glad my dog is okay. Then said they couldn't release her until she ate but was refusing to do so now I needed to keep praying for her to take up a space and also she's not urinating. Finally I say I'm coming to get her and the first thing she does is go outside and Pee for like 5 minutes, it was like that scene from Austin Powers. I'm suprised because she IS ABSOLUTELY SOAKED IN PISS. Like head to toe, and they said I can't bathe her because of the stitches all down her stomach. I do the best I can with baby wipes but if gets too bad and I have to bring her to my personal vet to see if they can cover it so I can bathe her. That's when I find out that her stitches are infected. I had that dog home less than 12 hours but she was in that dirty facility 3 days. I had a huge bill, a dog with her whole belly cut open for no reason and who now needed meds for infected stitches. I will never come here again and only ever go to OVRS. read more

Our 18-year old cockapoo was approaching natural end of life. Last night she went into distress with seizures and extreme pain, and we knew it was time. These folks said they would see her immediately; no appointment, just come on in. The whole euthanasia process was skilled, pain-free, kind, respectful and dignified. God bless the lady who answered the phone tonight and assisted me. We have a Yellow Lab who is on Antibiotics (500 mg) and when he spit it out our 3lb. Yorkie swooped in and ate it off the floor before we had a chance to grab it or him. He's used to taking like 50 mg doses when it's prescribed to him. At 10 times his normal dose I was afraid of what the end result would be. In a panic my wife started to Google what to do and I called the first 24 hour vet that popped up in my search. The lady at Advanced Animal Emergency quickly assessed the issue over the phone and advised me to give him 1 ml of peroxide and wait about 5 minutes and he should start to vomit. Sure enough exactly at the 5 minute mark my little duders started throwing up and the first thing that came up was the pill he swallowed. He continued to vomit a bit more, but so far he's doing well and acting like his usual self. You guys are forever in my debt. First, let me just say that Dr. Stomack is amazing! Her care and kindness did not go unnoticed. I have never had pet emergencies before and she really helped calmed my worst fears and I really felt like she cared about our cat. She took the time to talk to myself and my husband, answer all the questions we had and called us a few times herself. I didn't feel like we were passed off to whatever clinic staff was free. Long story short, we come home on a holiday weekend to our cat not acting right. Ends up needing a catheter. Of course it is a Sunday evening on a holiday weekend, not many options. Advanced was recommended by our regular vet. We called and after listing his symptoms they suggested we bring him in. It was busy, but again...it was a Sunday night on a holiday weekend. They took our cat back right away and checked him out. After completing some paperwork we were given a quote. Yes it was sticker shock, but it is a 24 hour clinic, and it is my cat....I'll pay whatever...just help him. The quote included his meds and up to 72 hours of hospitalization. Was it an unexpected bill, yes. That's part of adulting. It was worth every penny, and made my husband and I realize pet insurance is something to buy. Lol So when I see reviews that are more on the negative side of this place, I think a lot of it has to do with cost. No one likes these bills, but they come with being a pet owner. Our cat ended up staying with Advanced for just about 48 hours. We ended up getting a good refund since the quote we originally paid was higher than what our cat ended up needing. We spoke with our regular vet office and they said they would have done the same treatments, but maybe sent him home earlier since they don't have 24 hour staff. I was more than happy to have them keep my cat and properly monitor him and give him his meds. read more

Our Pug, Paco was bleeding from his ear and urinating blood at 11pm Wednesday night. I got him to the hospital and the came right out to admit him. Unfortunately he diagnosed with a very aggressive immune deficiency disease that is very aggressive. The staff were extremely kind and informative keeping us updated over the next 72 hours. Paco was 3 years old and they did EVERYTHING possible for him as if he was their own dog. Unfortunately we had to say goodbye to him on Saturday, but the staff gave us a wonderful last hour with him in a beautiful private room.
