I paid $480 for my appointment and left with hair that looked patchy and not like what we had discussed. I reached out to Masaki on May 13 regarding my concerns and attempted to resolve the issue privately. I never received a response. It has now been about a month, and despite giving plenty of time for a reply, I have been ignored. I did not immediately leave reviews or make public comments because I wanted to give him the opportunity to address the situation directly. Unfortunately, that opportunity was never taken. For $480, I expected a higher standard of work and customer service. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Masaki.

And what a fortunate thing I was, because I have now found my new go to person for all hair related needs. I highly recommend Ai for your stylist. Her attention to detail is superb and it is apparent she is a perfectionist as she even requested to trim my eyebrows to balance the cut against face shape. Reference this review and request her honest consultation for your intended style before getting a cut; I can almost guarantee you will be amazed by the end result. However, what ultimately made me leave a review was what Ai did NOT do. It was the fact that she advised me NOT to get a perm that day. She recommended it would be better to grow out my hair longer for the intended style. What refreshing honesty that prioritizes the best for your client instead of upselling any unnecessary service. I walked into NewHair with a quarter life crisis and a bowl cut. I came out 1.5 hours later having realized my full potential as a Temu BTS member, with the best haircut I've had in New York City. I asked for ash brown (which I usually get) but I got a way lighter color than expected and the bleach (he went over the bleach twice) really damaged my hair. On top of that, they charged me for a haircut I never asked for. During the balayage, the stylist cut/thinned (no idea what he did because he never asked me) some of my hair (maybe 10 "snips"?) and they later charged me an additional $70 for the "haircut." This really pissed me off because in the middle of my appointment, I even heard an assistant ask in Mandarin "is she getting a haircut?" and the stylist shook his head. I was really unhappy with my hair that I went to get a hair treatment (for the dry, damaged hair) and toner at a different salon a week later. That stylist even asked "who did your hair?"
