A word of caution though - the walls get up to about 4 or so metres and depending on the child's age/height/ability the fall may be significant, even on thick mats, although most kids climb within ability and managed quite well. There's no supervision and we didn't see anyone get injured but there were quite a few 'younger' children and their rather 'clueless' parents so there was plenty of scope for injury - I'll just leave it at that. The cellar door has a little art gallery and a studio for live acts and our timing was just right to catch a singer/guitarist at work. There's coffee, cool drinks, and of course a selection of wines to taste and buy. The farm is all open to walk through and enjoy the grounds. There's a folky laid-back feel to it all and if the weather was better (not winter), grabbing a bottle of wine, some cheese and a rug and finding a nice spot somewhere would have been perfect. It's really a bit BYO and if they served some food/local produce it would enhance what they have there.

Yes, I was off to a wedding with the reception being at Kooyonga Golf Club (The Height of Hoit and Toit). Having never been there before I was expecting silver service, wing back leather arm chairs, 25 year old conyac flowing from the taps and of course a lovely foreign person to freshen up my 'backside' should the need arise. None of the above occured, and hence my fake monocle went completely to waste! As I was at a function I will be reviewing thusly, and not the golf side of the club. Hors D'oeuvres were served upon our arrival on the decking overlooking the 18th hole. Very nice I might add! After which we were ushered into the main banquet room for din dins followed by tripping the light fantastic. The meals were of a very good standard, with my Prawn and Avacado Entree (not much to screw up there) and the Beef Fillet (served on a bed of this and that) being cooked perfectly. I would have liked slightly larger servings of each, but I guess it serves me right for only having 7 of the smoked salmon on piklet thingys served earlier. The service was very good and for the first time i have seen (except for when I used to run functions myself) they were running early! A very well drilled and friendly team of waiting and bar staff kept the night with no incedent and, although I am sure it wasn't cheap, I fully recommend it to any looking for a venue for a decent sized function.

My local golf course, easily played within 2 hours so perfect after an early day at work or during…read moredaylight savings in summer. It is par 3, with holes ranging from 60m-150m, but I usually only play with my trusty 7iron and putter. The greens and fairways are well kept, with minimal bunkers. A few trees line most holes with a creek along the last few. Valley view is great for families and kids during school holidays,it's fairly cheap and has an easygoing pace.

Speaking of green, you'll recognise iHans by its big green frontage. Run by a Korean man, iHans is perfect for a mid-week afternoon putter. Or whatever you golfing types call it. Plus, there is fancy equipment so you can track the speed of your shot. If, like me, you have no idea how to golf, this is a good place to perfect your non-existent skills. Come with a trusted golfer - someone who won't tell your pals how crap you are - and train up. Its only six or so dollars for a hundred balls. No need to bring your own clubs - iHans will sort you out. For the rest of you - who might be struggling to see why you'd want to go to an indoor putting range - this is the perfect after work activity/'quirky' first date (vom)/ thing to do instead of going to the movies.
