Just yesterday evening I was required to suit up, shave down, dowse myself in cologne (deoderant is usually a struggle) and hide multiple cap guns about my person. Yes, I was off to a wedding with the reception being at Kooyonga Golf Club (The Height of Hoit and Toit). Having never been there before I was expecting silver service, wing back leather arm chairs, 25 year old conyac flowing from the taps and of course a lovely foreign person to freshen up my 'backside' should the need arise. None of the above occured, and hence my fake monocle went completely to waste!
As I was at a function I will be reviewing thusly, and not the golf side of the club.
Hors D'oeuvres were served upon our arrival on the decking overlooking the 18th hole. Very nice I might add! After which we were ushered into the main banquet room for din dins followed by tripping the light fantastic. The meals were of a very good standard, with my Prawn and Avacado Entree (not much to screw up there) and the Beef Fillet (served on a bed of this and that) being cooked perfectly. I would have liked slightly larger servings of each, but I guess it serves me right for only having 7 of the smoked salmon on piklet thingys served earlier.
The service was very good and for the first time i have seen (except for when I used to run functions myself) they were running early! A very well drilled and friendly team of waiting and bar staff kept the night with no incedent and, although I am sure it wasn't cheap, I fully recommend it to any looking for a venue for a decent sized function. read more
