This is the ABSOLUTE BEST practice for glaucoma patients…read more My husband needed an emergency appointment for high pressures in his eyes due to his glaucoma. He was given an appointment in short order. I was out of town for this appointment, however, Dr Michael Izzo called me on the phone during the appointment to include me in the conversation to go over everything including the need for surgery. He explained everything in an easy to understand manner for my husband and for me. He said the surgery would be scheduled for the following week when I would be home. The surgery went great. The aftercare has been amazing. Dr. Izzo is so caring about his patients. He makes sure that you understand everything that is going on with your eyes, he's very detailed in his examination and encourages questions and concerns! With my husband, who is 71, he explained why he should no longer be driving due the type and extent of his vision loss in a way that was not demeaning or harsh. My husband and I both appreciated the kind manner in which he did so. In short, he is an amazing doctor and we couldn't be happier with the care we received. As to the staff, they were professional, understanding and caring. Our appointments were made to accommodate our schedule regarding times and days. The staff in the back helping the doctors are just as amazing. We love this practice and would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone, definitely as 10/10 stars!

Care from physician provider and allied health professional running the tests was very good but…read moreoffice staff lacks professionalism and not customer focused. Billing staff not informed of accepted insurances. Accepted my insurance then after being seen several times was informed that they don't take my insurance - seriously! Difficulty obtaining medical records - no online form to download or submit, does not utilize email - still using fax to transmit information. Attitude when calling the office is that they are being bothered. Front desk staff stand around having personal conversations instead of positively greeting and efficiently assisting patients who enter. Other factors such as wait time, scheduling of appointments, cleanliness of office all good.

I was told my glasses would be ready in two weeks and would receive a call when they are ready. About 4 days after the two weeks mark i thought it would be a good idea to call them asking if the are ready. I called them 4 times in the week asking if they were ready and nobody answered and when i left a voicemail nobody answered. I would think they are busy but when i came in to see for myself it was a ghost town. The lady at optical told me they were not ready and that i should come tomorrow and wait for her call. i don't know how the expect there customers to just wait for when they are available. when i asked here what time should I expect the call she gave me attitude. There have been delays after delays first it was tuesday then wednesday now thursday. If you want good customer service DO NOT COME HERE!!! the lady is the one in optical with white hair and glasses.

As a long-time patient of Eye Consultants of Pennsylvania in Wyomissing, I recently found myself…read morehaving to quickly seek care elsewhere because of what I believe is a significant change in their patient triage process--one that could have serious consequences for someone experiencing an urgent eye condition. Over the years, I had received excellent care from this practice. Several years ago, I experienced flashes of light in my left eye. When I called, I was told it was an urgent situation and was instructed to come in first thing the following morning--even though it was a Sunday and the office was otherwise closed. I was promptly diagnosed with a retinal tear and successfully treated with laser surgery. I also had cataract surgery at Eye Consultants, which was another positive experience. At my most recent appointment in March 2026, I again mentioned flashes of light in my left eye. The doctor determined there was no immediate cause for concern but emphasized that if the flashes increased or changed in any way, I should consider it a serious matter and come in immediately to be evaluated. When I noticed that exact change, I called the office expecting to follow those instructions. Instead, the scheduler informed me that my request would first have to be reviewed by a nurse, who would determine whether I could be seen, and that someone would call me back. Unfortunately, my interactions with several phone representatives throughout this process were also lacking in the empathy and courtesy I had come to expect from a medical practice. Because I placed my first call late in the afternoon, I became increasingly concerned that I would not receive a timely response. I called back, explained the doctor's previous instructions, and stressed that my symptoms had changed. I was then told that I would need to see a different physician in the practice and that the earliest available appointment was 3:00 p.m. the following day. Apparently, what had once been treated as an urgent condition was no longer considered one. Hoping there had been some misunderstanding, I called one final time to see whether an earlier appointment was possible. I was told that if I believed my vision was in jeopardy, I should go to an Urgent Care center or the Emergency Room, have them evaluate me, and then have them refer me back to Eye Consultants for an earlier appointment. So if an earlier appointment was available, I don't understand why a patient should have to jump through hoops to get it. At that point, I canceled the 3:00 p.m. appointment and contacted another ophthalmology practice in Lancaster. They immediately agreed that my symptoms warranted prompt evaluation and scheduled me as an emergency patient for 8:00 a.m. the following morning. In the end, I'm grateful this happened because it led me to an outstanding practice with a compassionate physician and one of the most professional, caring staffs I have encountered in years. Having spent ten years working in the administrative side of a large hospital system, I understand that healthcare practices face staffing challenges and scheduling constraints. Even so, I was genuinely surprised by what felt like a dismissive approach to symptoms that can indicate a vision-threatening emergency. This is the first review I have ever written because I believe prospective patients should know about my experience. My hope is that no one experiencing symptoms such as new or worsening flashes of light, floaters, or other potentially serious vision changes delays seeking care because they are unable to obtain a prompt appointment.
