This is the tiniest, most back-woods style airport I have ever seen. I'm glad it allows me to see…read moremy parents, who live in the sticks, but how do airline agents not know what a KTN is? Why are their systems so old, they can't even attach my TSA Pre-check or GOES ID numbers to my ticket? Why is there NEVER anyone at the Hertz counter and it takes 30 minutes to help one person? Why doesn't security know that a laptop and notebook are essentially the same thing and a TABLET IS NOT A NOTEBOOK? Ugh. But, you only have to arrive about 20 minutes before your scheduled flight, so for a perpetually-running-late person like myself, it makes it worth it to put up with minor frustrations... most of the time. I elected to fly into Sacramento and drive to Chico for the next few weekends. I just wasn't in the mood to hear, "We don't do that here" over and over again.

San…read moreFrancisco is notorious for delaying or cancelling fights, and the first to go are the regional planes. Of the dozen times I've used this airport, over half the flights have been delayed or cancelled. At this point, I only fly out of Chico as some form of penance. There has been much discussion in Chico regarding the financial drain the airport is on the community and why its patronage is continuing to decline. Not getting to your destination on time is the only reason no one uses this airport. Chico would be wise to add either a LAX or DEN route. Until then, your best option is to drive to Sacramento. Hopefully things improve, but I'm not holding my breath.

The security line was super short and we got through in 5 minutes. You no longer have to take your shoes off when you go through security which is really nice! If you're wearing a sweatshirt, and have shirt on underneath they will ask if you're comfortable removing it. After making it through I was very surprised to see all of the food choices have changed and 100% for the better! I grabbed a coffee at temple which I thought would eat some spare time but the whole process was surprisingly quick. You order and pay at the kiosks up front which helps the like go quickly. Then once your order is ready your name is called out. I think I only waited a total of 10 minutes! The one thing I will say is that sometimes they don't call names out very loudly so you have to stand close.

With that being said, they are making changes to the airport to expand it and hopefully improve it even more, but there are fears that with growth there will be some hurdles and drawbacks. For now, they have made some fun changes including many local businesses being featured in Terminals A and B. I love that they're sharing local flavors with the people passing through our airport and highlighting some of the cool places in our city. From our trips the airport is easy to arrive to, pick others up from, check into flights and navigate, they offer some decent food and drink options, and have a good amount of seating for those waiting on their flights. They also fly to a good amount of places with non-stop or connecting flights. Security is typically very efficient and we always arrive early for our flights and find ourselves with plenty of time ahead of takeoff to visit the restroom, pick up some bites or sips, and walk around. Baggage claim is also pretty straight forward and we've never had a problem picking up luggage after a trip and getting picked up or requesting a ride from Uber/Lyft. This airport is one of the more comfortable and easy to navigate airports that we've been through.

The Red Bluff Municipal Airport is owned by the City of Red Bluff and operated by the Fixed Base Operator, Cardan Aircraft Services. The call sign, is RBL and there's just one runway, or I guess two if you count the different approach directions. The have basic services here like fuel and food at a nice cafe on site. I met one of my bosses who flew in from LA here and he said it was no prob landing and the restaurant was super tasty. Parking isn't a prob like at some bigger airports. I don't think there's a rental car place here, so you might have to arrange that ahead of time. Easy fly in and fly out, that's the way to go. Easy access off the 5 freeway too.

But we did and I asked the airport mgr/employee in the office if we could use them. "No Problem". They were very clean and well kept. As far as the airport. I wish I had had more time to explore but when I saw that the CDF had a base there I went over to ask if I could take pics. I did and they were very nice. They have 2 S-2T Trackers and and OV-10 Bronco based there. In addition I did notice a CalStar Medical Helo and a BT-17 Vultee down at the other end. I would stop by again there if I had extra time too. Very nice airport.

The day was marginal for weather so, I didn't enjoy what I know is a beautiful view as much as I wished. The airport itself is nicely maintained with cheap fuel, great services and plenty of free parking with tie downs. The approach and departure procedures for the airport are a bit tricky depending on which way the winds are blowing so, be sure to read up on them in the A/FD before your trip.
