Dr. Hammond is absolutely wonderful! I can't say enough about every single veterinarian I have encountered at this place. There is an older vet tech (heavy, gray hair) that is awful. She makes nasty side comments when she has zero clue. Why on earth would you work in the service world around precious animals sometimes in their worst moment and have zero kindness and compassion? And for the veterinarian to have to come in the room after she left to correct what she said? makes me think she left the room running her mouth passing judgement in error. There are a lot of animal hospitals in this area and we have chosen Willowrun but with people like that working there it makes you think twice about it. Do better! read more

This place has a long reputation for being deceitful about fees and are known to overcharge. I was a recent victim falling for their new customer half price gimmick. They don't tell you about any fees until everything is done and you get the sticker shock. I should have known they were bad when the animal shelter warned me about them. read more

They were all super kind and Dr. Gilly was in love with my baby kitten. She explained everything very well & really made sure my kitty's health was the priority. This office is far more affordable than most vets & they made sure to tell me the cost of all the services before any were rendered. This is our 2nd visit with our 2nd Golden. We recently moved to NC and have 3 Goldens. We brought him in for a meet and greet, wellness exam, & shots. They are always so nice and answer all my questions. I had a question about my third golden and Dr. Hammond said he would look into it and get back with me. Very mixed review about Willowrun sadly. On July 5 I went to Willowrun Veterinary Hospital in Smithfield NC for the first time. My cat Ava had an ulcerated eye and it was determined that she needed her left eyeball removed. The cost would be $1,272.90 and follow up appointments were included. They had an opening for the surgery the next day on July 6th. It was performed by Dr. Hammond. He called me personally after the surgery and said Ava did well and that she could be picked up later that day. When we picked Ava up the technician was very kind and went over the discharge instructions very thoroughly. Part of the instructions included incision care. Which said to inform their office, if there was any swelling, redness, or drainage. Late Sunday night on July 16 Ava, ten days after her surgery, for the first time had blood oozing from the site. Yesterday Monday July 17 at 8:03 am I called Willowrun to inform them of the blood and asked if a tech could take a look at Ava's surgery site as we have a appointment for the suture removal on the 20th. I was put on hold by whoever answered my phone call. The same voice came back on the line saying Dr. Hammond wanted to see Ava personally as he performed the surgery and asked if we could be there at 3:00pm. To which I replied yes I could have her there. Check in was quick, we got into an exam room at three, and the office did not look or seem busy. Dr Hammond explained what was going on with Ava's eye socket, answered our questions, and a tech cleaned the site up. All and all this took about ten minutes. At the checkout is when things got really bad! The checkout lady coolly informed me that I needed to pay $99.00 dollars for Ava's exam. She told me follow up appointments are in fact free. However because this was considered a work in appointment the cost was $99.00 for the office visit and that is their policy. End of story! I explained to her that I called the front office at 8:03 in the morning. That I only wanted a tech to look at the surgery site when possible, because we had a suture removal on the 20th. Told her whom ever answered my call did not tell me anything about working Ava in. All the appointment lady said was have Ava there at three and that the vet wanted to see her personally. Nothing at all was ever said about an added cost of $99.00 or their office policy, for Ava's in my opinion a follow up visit! The check out lady never got up from her chair or picked up her phone to verify anything I said to her. Did not allow me to speak to the office manager, nothing. But repeated the $99.00 office policy to me. Which it obviously is. However should that not be disclosed to the animal owners before any visit? Possibly explaining up front what exactly is a follow up visit from an invasive surgery, or any type of treatment or surgery for that matter! I have every document given to me from Willowrun and nothing mentions anything about this particular policy! Nor does their website. The entire thing with the check out lady has left a terrible impression with me. The front desk people or the people answering the phone should be informing pet owners of their financial options up front before making appointments. The care Ava has received from the vet and back techs thus far has been good. However what makes for a good veterinary hospital and care is the whole team! I hate leaving this review because as I said the vets and back office team seem extremely concerned about Ava's wellbeing. Willowrun no doubt has my extra $99.00 dollars and I know I won't get it back. However I would like them to at least consider putting that money towards a credit for Ava! read more

I took my husky to the vet because she had a growth on her ear. Ironically, when the escape artist Husky previously succeeded, she ended up at the Willowrun Hospital overnight; so they knew her. They were communicative about the process and estimates. Provided an honest assessment of her growth and even provided an estimate for that. The dr did not create an unnecessary sense of urgency for something that wasn't; as many vets I've used before have. He also made me feel better as he explained the husky dog breed as escape artists. Sometimes when she escapes, I'm so nervous that some may automatically label us as bad pet owners but the good doctor assured me, we are not. Afterward, I even received an after visit report. I am extremely pleased with the way this veterinarian office cares for my dog. I chose this office because they are certified to perform fear free visits which we needed after a traumatic experience at a previous vets office. This vet is a 30 minute drive from my house. There are closer vets but none care for my dog like this vet does. He is a chihuahua mix and has severe anxiety. I always have them perform the fear free visits. They understand his anxiety, never leave us waiting in the reception area and get him back to a clean, comfortable, stress free room immediately. They follow up with us frequently, have different methods to ease his fear and genuinely care about the animals they care for. We have seen multiple doctors in the office and they all have been top notch. If you are in the market for a vet please consider this office. read more

I was highly pleased with Willowrun!! They squeezed us in (new customers) same day to get my little Yorkie mix in. On the phone, I asked for an estimated cost... I was a little taken back with the estimated cost of $225-$300 for what would be needed. HOWEVER, I walked out only having to pay $138! Even during this weird season Dr. Hammond even over the phone communicated very well after he saw my German Shepherd. His background helped me not be so anxious about my shepherd being seen. I brought my little pug chihuahua mix here while we lived in NC. Even after moving 45 mins away, I continued taking her here. The vets there do the most thorough exam and are so sweet and informative. I left with no questions unanswered and a very well taken care of fur baby. Willowrun took my little Yorkie in as an emergency a half hour befor their closing time! They spent TWO HOURS working on him and saved his life! We were new to the area and hasn't found a vet at that point yet. I called the first number for the 'other' Vets office and they told me to take him to the emergency vet in RALEIGH! I'm in Smithfield. I said my dog will be dead by then. He was choking on something stuck in his throat and couldn't breath. They didn't care. I called the next number and Willowrun had a team waiting for him when I got there! He was purple from lack of oxygen! I can't ever thank them enough. The doctors and staff are top notch, friendly, gentle and caring. I've recently taken my cat there for treatment and couldn't be happier with how they treated him. Having the privilege to work here was the biggest blessing I could have asked for during my short time lived in NC. Not only is the practice beautiful inside and out but so is the entire staff who works here. From the day I started to the day I had to leave not did I once get the utmost respect. I was highly and throughly trained, and always commended for my good work, even being the smallest of task or acknowledgment. Working here was very uplifting. I genuinely looked forward to my shifts and daily huddles ending with selfless and caring prayers. I felt the most comfortable working under management than I have anywhere else; any issue even the most minimal was never wanted to be looked past. I felt cared for and a part of something great for the community, clients and all pets in their care. If you get the opportunity to have the chance to work here I highly recommend doing so. Even coming from an extensive vet med background I learned an extensive amount and even more so about morality and how to treat people as human beings and care for all creatures waking this earth. Unfortunately we had to put our 16.5 yr old kitty down this past Tuesday evening. We took her in and Dr. Smith was working and we were glad as he was the first doctor that met her when we moved from Maryland. The care and consideration this hospital gives is amazing and Dr. Smith was absolutely the most kind, generous, caring, understanding Doctor that I have seen. He treated us the way you would expect to be treated at a time like this. Then the next day i had to return food that i had purchased Tuesday afternoon and one of the staff came out hugged me and said a prayer. Dr Hammond, Dr Langdon & Dr Smith have all cared for my two dogs at different times in their lives. My oldest is 11 years old as a senior she has special needs that Dr Smith follows her for. My youngest is 2 years old and he is a bundle of energy however, recently he had taken very ill. The team at Willowrun were amazing at getting him seen by Dr Langdon right away. She knew the right course of treatment and her Vet Tech Kyle was and is always absolutely amazing with him. He received great care on that day and future days since. Their services might be a bit more on the expensive side but the caring staff and knowledgeable Tech's and Dr's I have been to the past 6 years is worth it. read more
