Absolutely beautiful setting for a rustic/ farmhouse wedding…read more I am not a Texas native so I don't know the history of surrounding towns, but as an ADOS couple, we were casually told by other wedding patrons to be clear of the town by sundown, which is extremely alarming. However, I will stick to reviewing the property. Its a sprawling compund with a decidedly rustic feel. Because we were there for a wedding at a particular venue we didnt see how big the area was, but I did see another structure across the way from us that appeared to be another chapel + venue. There was a lake by us rimmed by willow trees (my favorite tree) which was absolutely beautiful. If you're looking for an idyllic, rustic farmhouse glam look for your event, and you don't need to flee at sunset, this may be your venue.

When we booked we were told we had to book her security guard at $25 an hour for the length of the reception if we had alcohol and that we could self serve if we only had wine and beer as long as we had someone with liquor license there it was fine. Right after we signed the contract the first security guard quit and she had to hire a new one and he was more expensive at $35 an hour and had to be there for the ceremony too which we thought was weird but went with it. Also when we booked she said she had a $600 security deposit formality that was required and most brides just wrote her a check and then she handed it back at the end of the night. Also something we were fine with. At the rehearsal she went to my husband's parents and a bridesmaid and the best person asking about money and when we were paying this deposit. She never once went to me and my husband while we were there and she knew we were paying for the venue not our families. One of the groomsmen made a bad joke about weed (we live in Oklahoma where it's legal but he wasn't going to bring any because it isn't in Texas he was joking about showing up stoned) and she freaked out and said that we had to make sure that we had $600 when we got there and she would be keeping it to check her venue for damage and then refunding it and we needed a bartender because self serve was no longer ok. We told her we could cancel the alcohol because we couldn't find a bartender on 12 hours notice. When we got to the venue she said she got us a bartender as a gift to us but the bartender told my husband that she is booked last minute like this all the time. The security guard we had to hire played on his phone most of the night until a bridesmaid pointed it out to the owner that since we are paying him he should do his job. When my husband tried to make conversation with him about where he's licensed and what he does when he's not working weddings he wouldn't answer. So I'm not sure if he is licensed. We used a small speaker she provided for the reception and I was later told she kept coming by and turning it down. The reception was indoors, we didn't have it very loud to start with, and she was out in the country so no noise ordinance applied and the reception was over at 9:30pm

There was enough room inside for all guests to sit/eat, go through a buffet line, and have an open dance floor in the evening. Plenty of parking as well! This place is in the middle of nowhere, so there was a short dirt road included in the drive, but it was very easy. Such a cute venue for a wedding!!

What actually prompted me to come here today was my disappointment with 903. I had gone there with my wife for their Oktoberfest and to pick up a collectible stein and again, even though I got there much earlier, they supposedly were already sold out even though for the whole 45 minutes to an hour that I was there, I kept seeing other people being given Steins, but that's gonna be on my 903 review. This is all about Ivanhoe. So after leaving Sherman disappointed, we decided to hit Main Street liquor to pick up some Buffalo trace which is pretty much hard to find everywhere around here. After that, my wife had suggested we check out Homestead winery. We walked in through Ivanhoe and were pleasantly surprised with the fact they were doing Oktoberfest as well and had a really nice decorated brew hall. The ladies were dressed to impress and very politely offered me a stein, and I did a double pour of their Märzen. It was so much better than the one I had just had not even half an hour ago down the street at 903. That one was watery and flat tasting, this one had all of the hints and notes of a good solid Märzen. I was very impressed with it and also their level of service. Very friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately we have missed the Oktoberfest band, but we did stick around to catch Van Ulrich in the evening, ended up staying there for several hours and drinking more beers and wine from their neighbors. I also tried their peanut butter stout which I also found to be delicious. 2 for 2! I believe we were helped by Anna. She was really friendly and even sat down with us for a bit. The whole time we were there, we felt like we were in someone's house as friends sharing a drink, which is the feeling that all brew and wineries, no matter how big or small, should strive for. We will definitely be going back again very soon thank you.

It was dark, around half the lights were out. We approached the bar and waited... and waited. We went to the winery side to see if there was anyone, and there wasn't any employees there either. Went back to the bar side to wait again, and eventually got fed up and left altogether. Now I'm not sure if we would give it another chance. Tammy met us up at Green Gables 3 separate times so I could take measurements and look at things again to plan. She has a huge collection of decorations that she doesn't mind you using. She does a great job keeping Green Gables looking amazing and is always looking for more ways to improve. When you book Green Gables, you get the venue for the whole weekend which makes set up and clean up much easier than at other places, plus you have somewhere to stay the night after the wedding. I would definitely recommend Tammy and Green Gables! If I had to give any feedback, the guest cottage where the ladies usually get ready could use some more lighting, but that was a comment from the makeup artist... I didn't think we had any problems with it.
