(This is about visiting during Lehigh County Open Gate Farm Tour Weekend)…read more There are a few farms that set themselves apart from the rest during the Open Gate Farm Tour weekend and Heidel Hollow is at the top of the list. They do all the things which make the concept of an open house work: * Demonstrations of their equipment * A full explanation as to what they grow, how they grow it and where/who they sell to * The ability to buy their products plus a free half dozen eggs just for showing up * Lots of parking * A great staff that goes out their way to help you even when it's crazy busy On the open house weekend Heidel offers the chance to see their computerized hale bale system do its thing, a small hay maze, for a fee you can make your own scarecrow, a decent sized food court & bake sale and a bunch of things for sale including pumpkins-mums-eggs-local honey and a whole lot more. Pricing is excellent. A two and a half dozen egg flat for three bucks and a two pound jar of local honey for ten bucks. You can't beat that. From their website: "The fourth and fifth generations of the Fink family invite you to their farm in Heidelberg Township. Energy to run the farm is from the 200kw solar array. Farm products grown here could end up on your dinner table or be loaded on ocean vessels to feed horses and cows. Computerized big bale hay processing system will be demonstrated; 1,200 pound bales are reprocessed down into 40 or 80 pound bales. Mike Fink grows over 1,000 acres of vegetables-broccoli, sweet corn, tomatoes and pumpkins for local stores. Customers and friends still know our farm store as the "Egg Room." For many years, this is where we did our egg packing from laying hens and where you could come and watch us pack eggs directly from the hen house and also purchase eggs and potatoes. Though the chickens are at another farm, you can still buy eggs as well as a variety of vegetables and fruits grown by son Michael during the summer season. Starting In May, we will have a full selection of Bedding and Vegetable plants, hanging baskets, herbs, and mixed planters for sale at the farm. All plants are grown here in our Greenhouse facilities. Stop in to stock your gardens for the season! In June and July, we start with seasonal produce such as strawberries, Mike Fink's Sweet Corn, tomatoes, peppers, local peaches, watermelon, and much, much more! Keep stopping by all summer for a great variety of fresh, local produce. In the fall, we switch gears to pumpkins grown right here on the farm, mum, Indian corn, and fall decorations, as well as home-grown spaghetti, butternut, and acorn squash. All winter long, we can supply your home with fresh eggs and local potatoes. The "Egg Room Store" is open Monday-Friday from 8am-4pm, and Saturdays from 9am-1pm." It's a bit of a hike for us to be making this a regular stop for produce but we get here every year for the open house and a few times during the rest of the year. The offerings are first rate, the staff is great and the prices are very reasonable. Definitely worth the trip.

Red Earth Farm offers the best CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) that I've ever heard of, let…read morealone experienced. Basically, you sign up and pay in advance, and then every week for 23 weeks beginning in June you get delicious, farm fresh produce and, if you like, eggs, fruit, herbs, yoghurt, and cheese. N & I got a half share and an egg share last summer, and this summer we're adding a fruit share as well. A half share gets you 6 items each week and a dozen eggs every other week. The fruit share will provide a selection of fruits every other week as well. Both quality and convenience make Red Earth Farm special. First of all, most CSAs just give you whatever veggies they want. With Red Earth Farm, you go online each week and choose from the produce they're harvesting that week. Second, the food is all so fresh and delicious you won't believe it. You'll be eating your veggies and asking for more. The stuff is about 24 hours out of the fields when it arrives at your pickup location. And the eggs, which come from free range hens on a nearby farm, have the yellowest yolks and the best flavor ever. I've never tasted eggs like these. Seriously, I never believe I could rave about eggs before these eggs. Sign up now! Or keep an eye peeled around this time next year, because they fill up quick.

Red Earth Farm is my first CSA experience, and it has set a standard that will be hard to top. Best of all, you get to choose what you want out of their offerings. The surprise grab-bag of veggies was always what scared me away from CSAs because I have neither the skills nor the energy for improv cooking. But with this CSA, you can pick your produce for your weekly delivery and still plan your meals ahead of time. I have a partial vegetable share that provides a more-than- AMPLE supply for my husband and I each week. Best of all, I no longer spend an arm and a leg on overpriced veggies at Whole Paycheck, a store that I love, but which has produce prices that are flat-out ridiculous. AND I love that I can support a local family farm in a way that's convenient, nutritious and delicious.

We drove to Jaindl farm and purchased turkey breast for Christmas Eve dinner…read more I wasn't expecting this turkey breast to be tough-to-chew because I have never experienced turkey meat that was tough before.. Turkey meat by nature does not have tough texture. This turkey meat also did not taste like any turkey meat I've ever had before. It actually tasted bad, and I'm someone who really likes turkey meat. Turkey breast is white meat, but this turkey breast looked and tasted like dark meat. I had high expectations for a Jaindl turkey breast for Christmas, so this was disappointing.

I did manage to pick up a Grand Champion Young Turkey Breast, 9.35lbs. I know my way around a kitchen but again, never made a whole bird so I'll update my review once its cooked. Around Thanksgiving time, this place gets busy - I imagine it will be busy after the holidays also so make sure you call ahead to find out their hours and if they're open because YELP and GOOGLE have different times listed. Their store also has a variety of products too... Turkey legs, pulled turkey, turkey nuggets, and other things. I've had their BBQ pulled turkey which is good - just a little too sweet for my taste but if you're like me you can jazz it up with some heat and its great for sandwiches. The turkey nuggets aren't bad either - its cubed pieces of meat and not ground turkey paste so it has better flavor. The breading is bland but again, can jazz it up with some heat. Things are a bit pricey - but if you check in on YELP you can get 25% off as of 11/20/19
