My mother moved to Sunny Hill after a stay in the hospital. She could not do much of anything when…read moreshe left the hospital. She went to therapy 5 days a week. She would always ask when she could have her own room. I continually told her when she gets stronger she could have her room. ( they actually have a waiting list ). After 100 days of physical therapy a room just so happened to come available. She was over joyed with her new room and her pictures on her walls. She loved showing them to anyone that would come to her room. One of her doctors said at one time she is a very complex patient. You name it and she had it. After many years of in and out of the hospital, she called Sunny Hill her home. She got sick and had the flu and pneumonia. It was just too much for her and she passed away. Sunny Hill and all of their staff and terrific. From management to cna to nurses. All were great. I would strongly recommend Sunny Hill. It's a Hidden gem. Really check it out if you have a loved one that is needing extra care. Thank you Sunny Hill for everything you have done for my mom.

Now they no longer have someone there 24/7 the residents are by there self at night they now are hooked up to an emergency call button. Ok everything changes under new management. But when my family member told me that is place has no regards for there safety even when residents go to management several times with a concern for the safety of a resident and management refuse to check on that resident because this is independent living and I will not check on this resident. I'm writing this review because if you care about your love one do not go to ESSINGTON PLACE IN JOLIET. No one check on this former resident until three days later when a different manager came back from vacation.

Facility design could be more senior friendly: common area seating is too low for people with mobility issues; hallways are long and dark. Maintenance guys are fantastic--prompt, patient, helpful. Administration is scattershot. Got multiple different packages of papers to sign prior to move in despite also having three face to face meetings with managers. Would have been helpful to see a checklist and timeline leading up to move in. Also would have been helpful if someone greeted resident on day one and went over his meal times, housekeeping, laundry, and bathing schedule And provided a print out of this information. Difficult to get accurate information related to health care staffing. No one seemed to know for sure the days staff nurse or geriatric doctor are onsite. No one seemed to know how the facility lending library operated in conjunction with Shorewood library.

Maintenance, activities ,CNA's, and the receptionists at the front desk were all very good. However, I am only giving the Timbers a one star rating because when she moved out they kept $1,000 of her security deposit. The only explanation given-Damages: replace carpet. After numerous attempts to speak to someone in charge with no one calling back, I gave up. I don't think it is right that someone on a fixed income should have to replace carpeting that just needed shampooing. Isn't there normal wear and tear after 2 1/2 years? The residents should not be responsible for decorating after they move out.
