For weeks we had been in conversation regarding respite care. They said they do have respite care…read morefor a minimum of 30 days...which we really had to struggle with because we only needed a week or two. However was going to settle for their "terms". We scheduled a tour and was pleased with the facility, putting us at ease that our senior would be in a clean/safe environment. We were given a folder with further details along with fees and paperwork needed to proceed if we were to decide on their facility. On another visit, after discussing and deciding this would be a good fit for our senior's respite stay we went through the assessment process. Here is where things began to go wrong. During the assessment (the "professional" arrived late for a scheduled appointment) people came into the open door assessment. Not really professional if a senior is being assessed and the door to the office with a busy hallway is a good way to get true attention and responses of a senior diagnosed with early onset dementia. Well, the open door brought in other employees of the facility. One walked by the doorway a few times before just walking into the office to get (of all things a soda pop) from the nurse giving the assessment! Not long after, the director of the facility just walked in to introduce himself. I'm wondering (couldn't the introduction have waited?). All the while... the "assessment " had not been completed. Following that we were taken to a room to show us all the what a "Respite" suite would be. We must admit the studio looked very nice, spacious and very clean. Our loved one did comment on its design and stated it would be nice to stay for respite. At this point we were asked if we could discuss the financial obligations and schedule the / book the stay. Because it had not been discussed/disclosed prior to this meeting of a deposit needed to "reserve" the space, we had to return with a check for deposit. At this point"finalization " meeting, a few hours later. We were pulled into a meeting with the sales department and the director who proceeded to try Pressuring" a Move-in instead of a Respite stay. The director kept expressing how poorly the assessment was and even if our senior were to be placed on the Assisted Living side of the campus our senior would eventually be moved to memory care. My big question and concern is "you mean within the 30 day respite our senior would have to be moved to Memory care?" The director kept insisting on having our senior be "Moved-In". His defense or reasoning as he stated...your senior did not have a good assessment. When asked if we could review he rolled back to say it has not been put in the system yet. Big Question Mark over our heads!! At this point we felt as if we were on a neighborhood used car dealership! This was after writing a deposit check for respite care. Stepping back for a few to explain about this facility... Respite care is furnished and in the information folder there is a list of items needed Prior to using their services. Because we were discussing and planning several weeks in advance we had started purchasing items from the list. At this facility (which is no where written) a Move-in requires the family to provide furniture for the living space. We are still wondering how did a stated "Respite Care " stay become a demanded Move-In? For anyone seeking "Respite" for their loved one...you may want to look elsewhere.

During her time in assisted living she was treated so well by the compassionate care givers. Rock Run provided her with numerous activities, meals and a social experience she needed. More importantly, when it came time for the move to the memory care facility the staff worked with me to guide me along the way. The transition was not easy for my aunt, or me, but I truly know she is in the best place. While EVERYONE I have met at Rock Run is caring and compassionate, I would love to give a shout out specifically to Michele (Director of Nursing) and Karen (Asst. Exec. Director). Their guidance during the difficult time of moving a loved one from assisted living to memory care was invaluable. I could never have done this without their help. They listened and walked with me every step of the way. When situations or questions arose, they were always a phone call or e-mail away. My calls were answered quickly and e-mails answered promptly, even on their day off. If you are considering moving a loved one to assisted living or memory care, I hope you will consider looking at Eden Vista Rock Run.

Now they no longer have someone there 24/7 the residents are by there self at night they now are hooked up to an emergency call button. Ok everything changes under new management. But when my family member told me that is place has no regards for there safety even when residents go to management several times with a concern for the safety of a resident and management refuse to check on that resident because this is independent living and I will not check on this resident. I'm writing this review because if you care about your love one do not go to ESSINGTON PLACE IN JOLIET. No one check on this former resident until three days later when a different manager came back from vacation.

I visited several care facilities in the area, and knew after my initial tour that this was the place I needed to place my father. The decor is comfortable and very well maintained. Not fancy, but cozy. The maintenance and housekeeping crews do a great job of keeping everything clean and in good repair, so you'd never know the building is over 15 years old! I thought it was newly built when I toured. One thing I noticed when I first visited, and has proven true over the past two and a half years, is that the residents are content. This was a noticeable difference from the other facilities I visited, where most residents didn't care to make eye contact or smile. At The Timbers the residents who are socializing in the halls and common areas say hello and smile. Even more, the STAFF smiles! And they KNOW the residents! One thing that impressed me (and again has been proven true since) was what I witnessed while I was waiting to tour the facility on my first, unscheduled visit. A staff member, who I later learned was the Activities Director Amy, was passing through the lobby and was saying hello to each individual resident she passes - BY NAME - and asking them personal, individual questions, not just 'how are you?', but knowing enough about each person to ask them a specific question about their day or what they were doing later. Something that is very important to our senior family members, of course, is food - and The Timbers has got that going for it, too! Pam and her staff present genuinely good food for the residents' meals. I often eat there myself, and not just because it's convenient, but because it's GOOD. Healthy choices, comforting choices and healthy portions, but not institutional food. There are always 'specials' for each meal, which most residents choose, but there are always a wide variety of options from a regular menu in case someone's in the mood for something different. The girls who work in the dining room learn the residents' names and know many of their individual likes - it's a very friendly place! Of course the past many months of Covid quarantine has made everything especially difficult for facilities like The Timbers, forcing activities to be limited and socializing kept to a minimum, but when not in quarantine the activities offered are really great - music, art, education, health, exercise, games ... there's literally something for everyone. But even DURING Covid, Amy and the rest of the staff have spent a tremendous amount of time and energy making sure every single resident knows that they are remembered and important. The staff has become family for the people who live here, especially during these times when families are separated due to the quarantine. It has become obvious to me, and proven during the past several Covid months, that the people who work at The Timbers are there because they CARE ABOUT PEOPLE, and isn't that what we all want for our family members?

Facility design could be more senior friendly: common area seating is too low for people with mobility issues; hallways are long and dark. Maintenance guys are fantastic--prompt, patient, helpful. Administration is scattershot. Got multiple different packages of papers to sign prior to move in despite also having three face to face meetings with managers. Would have been helpful to see a checklist and timeline leading up to move in. Also would have been helpful if someone greeted resident on day one and went over his meal times, housekeeping, laundry, and bathing schedule And provided a print out of this information. Difficult to get accurate information related to health care staffing. No one seemed to know for sure the days staff nurse or geriatric doctor are onsite. No one seemed to know how the facility lending library operated in conjunction with Shorewood library.
