First stop was to the Visitor Center to get a map and ask for suggestions if I wanted an easy hike. I can see how much they cared about this place by seeing how many maintenance workers there were. After leaving the Visitor Center, I did the scenic route. The landscape was beautiful with all the different types of rocks there were. I ended up not actually doing the full hike that I planned, but it was a worthy time to spend my time here.

I had a free day in Vegas before a week of all day work meetings. I booked a half day mountain bike…read moretour. I wanted to book the morning time slot but was also available for the afternoon trip as well. A few days before, they let me know they had a confirmed tour for the afternoon so they added me to that. There were supposed to be four others, but one missed a flight, and another backed out, so there were three of us plus the guide. We met at the ride share/tour bus pickup at the Mirage. I think they need to show this location on their map a little better. Even though I had walked all around this area the day before, it was hard to tell exactly where to meet. The guide did text me in the morning and again when he was 20 minutes out. We drove out to Red Rocks and the Late Night trailhead. I had reserved a carbon frame, full suspension mountain sized for me. The dropper post helped get the seat height right. I have a good amount of off-road riding experience as did one of the others. The third was a good cyclist, but no off-road riding. Our guide, Gavin, was able to tailor the ride to our abilities. I was afraid, going into this that it would be an easy, slow family-type ride. That it was not! We started with a long, slow uphill ride, and I was worried what I had gotten myself into. Well, that's because I'm not a strong climber. We took sufficient rest breaks and got into some great, fun, flowy singletrack. There were some technical spots with a couple harrowing drops. I definitely got off and walked a couple of those sections. I wasn't the only one. I also walked a couple uphills later in the ride. We rode a total of two hours, about 9 miles. The guide has the ability to decide which of the many trails out there to ride, based on the ability of the riders in each group. He told us that earlier in the week, he had beginner groups that rode far less technical trails than we did. The scenery is gorgeous and the trails are a blast. I highly recommend this company and these tours.

Not sure what that is about, but they did go above and beyond, regardless of the apparent stress. I guess my hesitancy in recommending is colored a bit by that, at the same time, pricing was too high for the experience. 2 to 3 stars for business operations and experience Five stars to staff I'm hoping they plan on passing the tariffs savings onto their customers in the next 90 days. Looking to buy a bike!

Las Vegas Overlook Loop…read more Review: In the last 12 months, we completed this hike 2.5 times. Our first time was February 2019 just days after Las Vegas was hit with snow. The challenge then was the cold weather and slippery/icy terrain. We attempted this hike last summer before 7 AM and turned around after 2 miles due to the heat. We just hiked this trail a few days ago and the weather was perfect. This hike is no cupcake, but at the same time, I didn't think it was too difficult. Just keep in mind that the total distance is a little over 6 miles, it will take over 2 hours to complete, the climb is between 1,500-2,000 feet, and 90% of the trail is exposed. If you ever climbed Exploration Peak or Lone Mountain and thought either one was hard, then this hike is NOT for you. I compare this hike to Turtlehead Peak or Gass Peak. The view is awesome!! Stats: According to AllTrails, the total distance is 6.3 miles round-trip, 1,534 ft elevation gain, and rated as "hard". My stats are about the same. The only difference is that my Garmin has the elevation gain a little over 2,000 ft. Location & Tips: I'm unsure where exactly the trailhead starts, but you can park off NV-159 and Fossil Ridge Road or GPS to Cowboy Trail Rides (4053 Fossil Ridge Road, Las Vegas, NV 89161). Due to the Coronvirus and all of the shutdowns, the main parking is currently closed, but you can still park on the side of the road or in front of the parking lot. There is typically an enough space to safely park if you get here early. -Start from the Horseback Riding signage and head down the trail. The stables will be on your left side and as the trail begins to merge right. Take the first trail past the stables on the left. The trail is clearly defined (even in snow) and easy to follow. -Around .75 Miles: You will see two trails; one is leading left and the other is straight. Head straight and from there, you'll reach a few switchbacks. After 4 sets of switchbacks, you'll reach a split. The trail to the left heads to Muffin Ridge and the trail to the right heads towards the overlook. Follow the trail to the overlook. From there, it's another 2 miles to the highest point and the overlook. -The overlook is around the 3-mile mark. Enjoy the view, snap some pics, but be careful. Keep in mind that you're still on top of a mountain. Gravity always wins. -Heading Back: You can either backtrack back to the trailhead or continue on the trail to complete a full loop. Continue the trail and you'll reach the flattest part of the hike. You know you're there when you see the solar panels. Continue to follow the trail to another trail dubbed Bone Shaker Extreme. Follow that trail down and watch your footing. Parts of the trail is rocky, slippery, and potentially, bone shaking dangerous. Follow that trail and eventually, you'll reach the area that leads you back to the trailhead.

Park at the Cowboy Trails horseback rides parking lot off of SR 159 and head towards the horses. Just follow that road until you see a trail to your left and follow it; using the AllTrails app is recommended as there are various little trails there. It's about 2.7 miles to the overlook with gradual elevation gain along the way. You'll know you've arrived when you are greeted by a fantastic view of the Strip and Vegas Valley in front of you. From here, you can turn around and go back the way you came or continue on the trail heading west where you'll eventually face Red Rock. The trail will loop north until you start heading down back down towards the horses. Careful on the descent as there is loose gravel and rocks to navigate. If you do a true loop and not the out and back, it's very easy to get almost 6.5 miles total when you start tracking your mileage from the parking lot. This hike will take the better part of 3-3.5 hours depending on your pace and how much time you want to spend at the overlook enjoying the view. Bring plenty of hydration and snacks to enjoy, but be sure to pick up after yourselves. Happy hiking! #LeaveNoTrace
