Awesome because they have a great menu at the front of the store which describe all the coffees they have on offer- perfect for those who are still learning all the different types of coffee. Ordered their Mini Breakfast- which is half of their big breakfast. Got the eggs scrambled- choice of how they are cooked. Came with a piece of toasted 7 grain bread (or ciabatta) and a small package of butter. Also with a few strips of bacon on top with a roasted tomato, roasted mushroom, interesting choice of cheese kransky sausage and hash brown. A mix of several savoury components for a hearty start to the day. Good choice. Friend got their french toast which looked delicious with brioche bread. Have both indoor and outdoor seating with tarpaulin walls that still let in sun. A small courtyard fully outdoors as well. Able to see the roasting of coffee beans, purchase whole coffee beans, espresso or equipment as well as get something out of their great cabinet. Have a lot to offer- definitely go check it out.

My wife had the French toast, which she didn't like, and I had the pork sausage. The sausage itself was yummy and the relish was good, but the balance of flavours was ruined by too much rocket leaves. We also shared a cronut: I like cronuts but this one was made cloyingly sweet by a topping of sugar icing. Too bad. Is it me? Are the flavours suited for a different taste? I really wanted to like this place. I'm hoping it was just an off-day. Aside from the food, the service was great. Staff were friendly. Their EFTPOS machine was unavailable so the manager just trusted me to pay later, which I did. Afterwards, we made a quick trip to the nearby market, and drove to the new ferry terminal for a look-see. These extra attractions made the journey nearly worth it.

And what a shame it would have been to miss out on this little gem! As I tend to do every time I go out for breakfast, when I went to Catalina I ordered the 'big breakfast'. Poached eggs, sausages, tomato, homemade relish, mushrooms, hash browns, crunchy buttery toast - it was the perfect way to start my morning. But what made it even better was the delicious berry smoothie I coupled with it. I highly recommend both these options, and according to my coffee connoisseur of a boyfriend, their coffee is pretty good too. The outdoor area of Catalina is beautiful - really spacious with big umbrellas and a courtyard, it's the perfect place to enjoy breakfast in the morning sun, or even a cold wine in the late afternoon. Tip: Every Saturday and Sunday farmer's markets are held in the park right next to Catalina, where great knick knacks and curios can be purchased for a bargain

It's a Hong Kong noodles restaurant but they do have rice dishes too. My Friday lunch spot with my…read moreworkmates. VERY VERY popular with the Hong Kongers and Chinese. Their most popular noodle is served with beef offals ( that's beef tripe, liver, stomach etc etc lol..) And Hong Kong people love it!! There also aren't many in Auckland that does it as soft and tasty as Kingston. Their next favourite (for those that can't handle offal) is satay beef noodle soup. Tbh I don't know how it's satay and don't mind because it's super tender, juicy and full of delicious flavour. Their soup base was something I couldn't get enough of but now it's just full of msg and makes me extremely thirsty after, however I still can't stop drinking it haha. I love it when it's mixed with the sauce from the braised beef topping!!! Makes it's even more tasty and flavourful and addictive. I always ask for thick rice noodles (round not flat. Sometimes called thick vermicelli?) instead of the usual thin egg noodles. You can also ask for sauce noodles instead of noodle soup where the noodles are slathered in the topping you picked, you then mix it all together with the hoisen sauce they give you (add some soup to help the mixing process). Ask to add extras like a fried egg, dumplings, wontons, fried fish balls, beef balls, luncheon, vegetable lol anything on their menu can pretty much be added in as an extra. Also they have a variety of noodles to choose from: thin egg noodles, thick egg noodles, thin vermicelli (rice noodles), thick vermicelli (rice noodles), hor fun (flat rice noodles about 1cm wide), yang chun mian (kind of like soft hand made noodles) and of course curly instand noodles haha (I'm sure there's more but we have tried yet) For drinks, their most popular drink is called Ying yang milk tea which is a mixture of milktea and coffee.. I know it sounds weird but it quite nice! If not go for the lemon iced tea or crushed red bean milk drink. So many choices and not too expensive!! Each bowl is usually around $10 unless u get the beef offal which is $13.50. P.s. You MUSSSST try the Hong Kong style french toast. It's totally different to what u would except and so much nicer. It's filled with peanut butter and then deep fried and then slathered in golden syrup..if that helps with the decision making...

Anyway, this week I set out to rectify my ignorance by visiting twice, first with my Yelp amigo, Kathy L and then again the following day. The café is in a pretty unexpected place, right next to the North Shore Events Centre. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the smell of freshly roasted beans. I've said it once and I'll say it again - cafés that roast their own beans make consistently good coffee. I mean, that's just my experience but I reckon 99% of the time it holds true. The Coffee Lab is no exception. Here you get to choose your own beans from their three grinders. We took the advice of the barista and went Sumatran, who told us "it had a hint of vanilla and is good served black." Perfect. Could my unrefined coffee palate taste the hint of vanilla, no, but was the coffee strong and silky smooth - yes. In fact, it was so delicious that I ordered the same thing the next day. I am yet to try their food but the slices look off the chain - just like nana used to make them! No doubt, I'll be back soon.

Though…read moreoriginally created for student use, Carrington's has flourished over the years and is now open to the general public too. With a full bar and pretty good range of food available, Carrington's is a great place to sit in the afternoon with friends and have a few drinks and something to eat. The chips are deliciously salty and crisp - I definitely recommend getting a bowl to share. The bar itself is pretty big, with a decent sized dance floor and plenty of seating inside, as well as a separate room which houses pool tables, and a newly renovated outdoor area. This set up of Carrington's makes it the perfect venue for 21st parties and the like; there's enough room to sit, gossip, dance, you can smoke outside, there's two bars (one in the new outdoor area), and the pool tables add a little bit of friendly competition to the party. Plus, it's hilarious watching your friends play when they're drunk! Tip: If you're a student at Unitec there are often deals on the food and drinks, so be sure to ask!

Inside the fit out is youthful and fun, exactly what you would expect from a café named 'Little King.' There is a huge wooden communal adorned with freshly cut flowers and mismatched tables and chairs reminiscent of your local primary - circa 1990. A playful mural spans an entire wall and exposed light fixtures dangle from the ceiling. Supreme is the coffee of choice and but if caffeine ain't your thing they also have a wide range of herbal teas. As for the menu, it has all the typical brunch fare plus a few extras including about FIVE, yes I said FIVE, different waffle dishes. However, when I went I couldn't get past all the good-looking cabinet food and being a sucker for baked goods of the savory variety I opted for the spinach and cream cheese muffin. It was served hot out of the tray and was moist, fluffy and god damn delicious. What else is pretty choice is that from 7am - 1030am on Weekdays they offer early bird specials. This includes deals such as eggs how you like them AND a reg coffee for only $9.90....genius! I guess the early bird really does catch the worm.

Right now I am drinking a spectacularly delicious latte (ok, maybe I just needed a caffeine hit, but it's still good!) and eating chia pudding for my breakfast. Who wouldn't!? Even early in the morning there is a display of breakfast baps, fresh pressed juices, tortilla wraps (scrambled egg and chorizo this morning), and a 'superfood' pudding - chia or sticky rice today - ready to take away. They also have a made-to-order breakfast and lunch menu. Although I haven't had a chance to try it yet, I have no doubt it would be equally delicious. If you peek in to the kitchen you'll see the team working busily preparing food for the day, but it's also spotless. But back to my love declaration. It's the coffee. The barista makes the best coffee in Auckland. Hands down. She's quick, friendly and welcomes you with a smile, even if she's serving someone else. Win.
