    Soy hot chocolate

*Joey voice* :"What's not to like? Service, good. Food, good. Coffee, Goooooooood. wait wait wait there is one thing. price vs portion is tots wrong. My poor friend ordered steak and there were only 2 teeny tiny slices. hahha boy was he hungry after. Same goes for the chicken fillet my other friend got... but on the plus side i ordered the right thing that made my experience super duper goooood. FRENCH TOAST... Oh the combination of grilled bananas, crispy bacon, pillowy french toast... all drizzled with some gooey maple syrup...mmmmm i felt sorry for the two boys that ordered the teeny dishes that i gave them a majority of my bacon. I ordered a hipster soy hot chocolate which came with an attempted tulip latte art (still looked good tho!) and tasted as good as a hot chocolate can get. The boys ordered a cold brew which came in beakers and a wooden stand (i love how they consider the presentation of the drinks, also made my nerdy side jump for joy when i saw beakers!!), they also ordered a short black and another friend order a peppermint tea (to which all the saucers and cups were mix and match!! ahhh too cute). I got to taste the cold brew and it was really good until we decided to add the sparkling water (not even sure if we were supposed to but it was presented there?). Short black looked like it was only one shot? peppermint tea smelt divine as usual. The interior is hipster. The communal tables were made of scaffolding or metal pipework which i LOVED. The wood cladding all over the interior. The sneak peek into where they roast their coffee beans. The hipster boys that serve you, covered in intricate tattoos, five o'clock shadow, tunnel earrings, and cheeky grins. what was i talking about? oh right the interior is totally different from the exterior, like a surprise. Definitely check it out! super busy on Saturdays tho!

I had heard good things about Coffee Lab so I was really looking forward to checking it out. They have a roastery there where the do all their coffee beans and they also have a café where you can enjoy these beans. It was really cool to be in amongst all the roastery where they actually make it. You can look through the window at the roastery and see all the action take place. There's bags of beans, a roaster of course and the smell of coffee! The coffee was pretty good, not the most amazing but it was still of a high standard. I particularly liked the cups they served it in. The café interior is great too with big tables and smaller ones so it'd be great for a family brunch. They have a range of food there like brownies, biscottis and quiches. They also have a menu which looked great.

After visiting the 'Coffee Lab' a few times for coffee & lunch (unfortunately everything including the coffee, food, ambience and service) is very average. I hesitated on writing this review, as I thought with further visits this cafe would improve. Sadly not. 'Coffee Lab' is located in a commercial hub just off Porana Road on the North Shore, so is acquainted by locals and neighbouring businesses. There is parking right outside which is very convenient. The staff always seem disorganised, disinterested and lack friendliness, which is a necessity in hospitality! I am a HUGE coffee lover so I was interested to try their beans - ok. I have tasted their salmon bagel, cookies, berry muffins and a few other things at Auckland City prices. Maybe ordering from the menu is the way to go? I love the space. Hopefully my next experience will be a winner!

I can't believe I haven't heard of this place earlier. What an absolute treat!…read more I stopped in here last Friday lunch when it was cold and blustery out and I was in desperate need of soup. As per, I was in a bit of hurry so I was chuffed that their daily soup, Tomato and Leek Soup with Cheesy Toast, was available takeaway. Whilst waiting for my cuppa soup, I grabbed one of the only seats available and took it all in. Stanley's was absolutely packed; there were ladies who lunch, businessmen in suits, grandmas enjoying a cuppa and a hipster teen out with his mother. It struck me that this is the kind of place where everyone feels comfortable. The interior is simple, clean and fuss free with ceiling to floor windows that make it beautifully light inside (even when it is miserable outside). Of course, there are also exposed light features but in this case they work brilliantly with the fresh, white interior. Within 10minutes my takeaway soup had arrived with the bag of cheesy goodness and boy, was I excited. When I got home, I transferred the piping hot soup to a bowl and noticed that they had served it with fresh sage and a drizzle of cream. The little things really can a difference. The soup smelt absolutely devine and tasted equally as good; thick and hearty with a rich tomato flavour. Combined with the cheesy toast this was most definitely a substantial lunch. I was satisfied, full and ready to steam through an afternoon of work! I will most definitely be back, on the reg.

This weekend was a double visit. On Saturday a coffee and blueberry muffin was a mid morning treat. The muffin wasn't the biggest in the world but was lovely and moist with lots of berries. Sunday was a working bee and the homemade chicken and beef and ale pies hit the spot at lunchtime and provided the energy to keep going with the wallpaper stripping. If you want to eat in they have an excellent menu with old fashioned favourites such as savoury mince.

I've only stopped in for coffee so far, but I've got to say it was the best coffee I've had in a long time - velvety smooth milk poured over perfectly extracted allpress espresso. Bliss. The barista clearly knows whatsup. The décor in here is also right up my alley - clean, white and modern with freshly cut flowers. It's pretty cosy inside but there's a coupley tables and chairs out the front as well. Definitely a spot for smaller catchups - 2,3 or maaaaybe 4 people max. The menu looks extensive - breakfast, brunch and lunch - and there's plenty of delectable looking sweet treats available on the counter. If you need any convincing, scroll through their FB pics - food porn at it's best (yesterday's was freshly pulled pork and a big bowl of coleslaw). This is also the North Shore pick-up point for Jess' Underground Kitchen, which is definitely worth checking out if you haven't already! She makes fresh, flavoursome take-home meals which you can pick up Mon, Tues and Wed. Head to her website for more details.

A bit industrial, retro and we say mix matching decor. Greenery brings out the white painting brick wall. Something catching your vision. Substantial cabinet selection, as I have chose the spinach feta cheese scone and the almond croissant with Latte. Scone came unheated, dry Inside, so the pairing butter was pale. The same situation came to the croissant-perhaps it has been left in the cabinet for too long, the pastry was actually hard to cut and inside was not moist enough to stand out the croissant flavour. Latte was in the right temperature however milk forth didn't stand firmly. This was definitely out of my expectations for a proper Cafe??! Then the soft shell crab burger, sort of, saved some credit. Nicely cooked crab with crispy texture matching the sunny egg and burger bread. Cute portion displayed in a typical Japan-inspired rustic plate. Well presented. Reading the menu, you could feel it offers mostly Korean&Japan fusion dishes. Ramen, Bento, dumpling soup, sushi etc. Smart for this mixed culture area, so feel daring to try these rather than the average cabinet ones. Good luck for the Asian flavour in a western Cafe, which is, most fascinating in many Cafes&restaurants in New Zealand.
