Property manager jumped the gun and called out another company that was not Carrier authorized who diagnosed it as a freon leak from a bad factory solder joint. $770 to repair from non Carrier authorized company. Called Carrier for warranty coverage and they recommended Holley as they are an authorized Carrier dealer/repairer and could diagnose the problem, then contact their Carrier representative for a solution. Holley confirmed the diagnosis of factory defect with bad solder joint causing all freon to leak out. I was told by Holley service tech, they cannot guarantee the repair or assure me that one of the other solder joints will not leak eventually causing the same issue. I also was told by Holley several times that they would not deal with Carrier for a solution as they "did not install the unit" (when it is not an installation issue. It is a manufacturer defect). Estimate to repair from Holley $1660. Somewhere along the line, Holley did speak with their distributor Mingeldorf (sp?) who offered a $500 credit towards labor to repair the unit, but it had to be used within 15 days. I then got to tinking about the difference in repair estimates. I asked for a itemized breakdown from Holley for the repair and was given this: $470 for 5lbs of R401A $1190 for 3 hours of labor, Misc, Materials (acetylene, copper fitting, solder material) Now lets assume the Misc and materials is $100. That equals $1090 for 3 hours of labor or $363/hr. I have asked for their hourly labor rate 4 times and they will not give it to me. The owner is rude and basically said I need to go somewhere else to have it fixed. He stated that I don't want to pay for anything (which is untrue). It is clear to me that they are deceitful in their business practices as I can assure you that $363/hr is not the going rate per hour for HVAC service. I don't want the repair for free, but I also don't want to be lied to and taken advantage of which is what this company is doing.

Five Stars Ryan!!! When we requested service over the weekend to come and check out our HVAC they let us know what the cost would be and we accepted and they came very quickly. They found out what was needed very quick and on Monday sent us a quote. What really stood out to me about the company is their honesty. They originally installed our unit 10 years ago, and we had no idea it was still under warranty. They could have easily said it wasn't and charged us an extra $1,000 -- we never would've known. But instead, they let us know it was still covered, saving us a significant amount of money. That kind of integrity speaks volumes about the company and is exactly why I trust and recommend them. They're truly reputable and stand behind their work.

I told him the system was obviously frozen but seemed to be working fine now (we'd followed the instructions of friend and were able to thaw the system). I told him we still wanted to see about having it serviced though. He said ma'am, an air conditioning unit isn't like a car. You can't change it's oil or spark plugs. It doesn't require maintenance to work. It either works or it doesn't. I said fine, it works. So obviously all of those companies offering AC/Heating servicing are just ripping people off. Thanks for calling. It just really felt like he's one of those men that thinks all women are idiots. I seriously doubt he would have spoken to my husband in the same manner.
