Always found William Sonoma an interesting place to window shop, especially for ideas. Their William Sonoma brand shelf stable food items can work well as a nice gift for the holidays... especially when you want to bring something fancy, packaged well, that the recipient will know you paid a premium for... and something they'd unlikely buy for themselves. However, typically gift those on my list something other than food. Given my extensive inherited and elsewhere sourced kitchen equipment, utensils, tableware, it's not a place I'd ever purchase anything in those categories. For example, I'm fully stocked in enamel coated cast iron cookware, although it's nice to check out their Le Creuset selection. (Important to me since I've completely stopped using non-stick cookware.) If you follow my reviews, you may be surprised I'm also not in the market for a fully automatic espresso machine that costs over $4K! (To be precise, list their exclusive Jura Z10 for $4299.95 plus tax. Wow! Glad William Sonoma made it a better deal by shaving off that nickel - which amounts to 5 now obsolete pennies.) That being said, I'm sure William Sonoma is a great place for a wedding registry, although could easily believe their non-exclusive items are cheaper online. read more

Williams Sonoma, I have a question for you: why lie to your customers? I went to this WS location because it's in my neighborhood. I was looking to purchase two items and struck out on both. First item: a 10-inch Heston pan (to replace a much-used one in my kitchen). No dice. They have sets of two or more but you can't just buy one, so I was told by the snippy guy who "helped" me. Strike one. Second item: a SodaStream replacement cylinder. I brought in the empty one and asked about purchasing a new one. They said they're "having problems with the supplier -- nobody can find them anywhere." This was the same story they told me 4 months ago. At that time, I was able to purchase one around the corner at the hardware store. Again today, I was able to easily get one at the same hardware store. My question: why lie? Clearly it is not difficult to get these cylinders, they're available all over the city. Yet WS continues to give customers this bogus excuse. They really should just fess up that they don't want to be in the business of selling these things. WS is still listed on the SodaStream website as a cylinder refill supplier. They should be removed from that list -- and they should just send people around the corner when they ask. It's the decent thing to do. I'm finished with this place. read more

Wow! What is up with this Williams Sonoma? The average Yelp review has it at two stars. Can a store possibly be that bad? I was in search of a nice baking pan so I figured this was my chance to find out. The greeter greeted me. Okay, she didn't break out a million follar smile but let's face it, she's not being paid a million dollars either. I asked her for help finding the pan of my dreams and she sprung into action. She got on her headset and whispered to invisible men downstairs. She found my pan. When I struggled with the cardboard she took over for me. This greeter gets an A plus. Then there was the guy who checked me out. No, I don't mean that way. I mean the cash register way. He was perfectly nice and friendly. A totally decent place to shop. I was looking for a lemon juicer and walked by this Williams Sonoma. Went in to find they have every type- twister, squisher with compartments for both lemons and limes, and a couple others. They were all expensive for my simple tastes, but it's WS, so it's expected. I do enjoy walking around and planning for my future home. I sold all my kitchen stuff when I moved to NY so day dreaming for the phase where nothing is a hand me down is fun. The lady that was helping me was very friendly when I had a question on a pattern. I still hate the staff in this store. At checkout, they make you wait and are not accommodating, sometimes chilly. I live in the area and been going here for years as they do occasionally have good sales. That said, the service is absolutely terrible. You come in, they fall over you (if they like your face), but when you try checkout, you are ignored. Just a warning, location is selling food items that are expired! See photos, taken 12/14/2024. Purchased this in November, noted they were expired, informed the store and returned the item. They took our return and put it back on the shelf. We asked, "shouldn't the expired items be removed from the store?" but we were ignored. We were in the area today, 12/14/2024, and were curious if they were still selling the expired items. Sure enough, they are, see photos. Williams Sonoma 110 7th Avenue I've been here many times since this location opened. Usually because my daughter insists. I don't mind since I'm a big fan of their merchandise. It's quality that lasts after many years of use. This is another Williams Sonoma where my review and photos are gone. This location is the same merchandise as other locations. They have the same beautiful kitchen items with a good selection. The food products are delicious looking. I don't spend too much time at this location like I do at the two locations closer to home. It's quick in and out if my daughter needs something when we're in this neighborhood shopping. They have beautiful high end merchandise. I am only giving it a star because it seems you can't have a no star review which is unfortunate after the experience I had with ordering from Williams-Sonoma this holiday. I sent Christmas gifts to three family members with a card for each and not one received the correct order. You would think that W-S would try to make it right but sadly you are 100% wrong. In one case my sister-in-law received an order intended for someone on the West Coast (they live in VA) and I was told they would have to go to the UPS store to return before they would ship they gift I had ordered and paid for! They were rude, no help and didn't issue a single refund so I paid for three gifts that were never received. Shame on you Williams-Sonoma. Never again. Avoid at all costs. read more

They have the worst customer service. It's hard to get someone on the phone. The advent calendar I bought was stale, and the candy was inedible. They refused to refund or credit me because I had the item over 30 days. I purchased it a few weeks before December 1, when I started to use it. When I told her I wasn't happy about this, the customer service rep started to yell at me. I'm so upset. I also paid a lot for shipping, no free shipping like other companies. You know what it is. Williams-Sonoma is the spot you hit up to overpay for all of your kitchen needs. The store is gorgeous, and the displays will very nearly entice you to buy all sorts of items you probably don't need because most only perform a single function that can be done with a knife (jalapeno corer, herb scissors, banana slicer, mango pitter, etc.). Registering for your wedding here (if you are so inclined) puts a whole new spin on it, because then you get to hit up your family and friends for the $65 wine glasses you'd never buy on your own. But the friendly employees will tell you this is the time to get that $200 meat thermometer that's only advantage over the $40 one is that it comes in a pretty box. All in all, Williams-Sonoma really is a good place to find almost anything you'd need to cook or entertain. It's laid out in an organized fashion, and they have high quality products that range from knives to pans to utensils to tablecloths to glassware. You just might pay more here than you would elsewhere. read more

I came here to pick up my online order. I believe one of the managers tall man with gray hair was beyond rude to one of the employees and it was a major turn off & unpleasant to witness on Saturday morning. Perhaps he had a bad day but it wasn't necessary to make big deal that he couldn't find my order receipt in their folder with online orders. I purchased few other things that I need for the holidays and was assisted promptly from their staff. Store is well organized always. I went to their Chelsea location to purchase a particular brand of frying pan that I like. Although the item wasn't in stock the salesperson went out of his way to find it online and placed order. Shortly thereafter I realized that he had ordered the wrong item so I canceled it. I went online myself and placed an order for the correct item and although it was supposed to be a Christmas present I was willing to wait until January to receive it. Then I got an email informing me that there was a problem with my credit card info. I spoke to customer service and supposedly the problem was remedied. Then, on Christmas day, no less, I received the same email from them again claiming that the credit card information was incorrect!!! I was furious at the incompetence of this company and the aggravation they caused me when just trying to patronize them. Their customer service in store is rude, arrogant, and incredibly unhelpful. Williams Sonoma recently changed their pick-up policy without any information indicating that online, and even in the pick-up confirmation email, and wouldn't let a daughter pick-up on behalf of her dad. They were curt and passive aggressive, and when I asked for a return they wouldn't even give me a printed return receipt. This is the worst service I've ever seen, and warn anyone that shopping at this location isn't worth your time or money. read more

So I said, "Oh, I'm not sure if you are waiting for us, but we take a long time to choose." And she responded with "I need to work on moving these AS you can SEE." Rude people work here. While I am looking at cookware, an employee is moving it away from the display table. The manager asks her employee, "Why are you reorganizing the merchandise while the customer is looking at it?" The employee doesn't answer. Being a nosy person, I look over to see why this person is not answering her supervisor. I see that the manager is laughing at the employee rolling her eyes in my direction while I realize that this is some sort of joke in which the people who work here make fun of customers. Writing this review? Worth my time. Purchased 2 frying pans on sale. On my way home from work I was notified by text of delivery. When I lifted the large box it felt empty, and inside was a ton of paper and at the bottom was a plastic brush for cleaning bottles. OK mistakes happen so I called customer service. But first after my work day I walked the dog, prepped dinner and had a few minutes to deal with this bottle brush that I didn't order. I was told by customer service they will send me a return label and I should go to UPS, return the brush, then they will ship my pans. What? I don't have time to return this ridiculous bottle brush that you mistakenly sent to me with wasteful packaging I said send me the pans I'll pay for them, and I'll just donate this brush to my soup kitchen I am not taking any more time for WS error for an item that is basically not worth anyone's time or money. Nope,they want the brush back I cancelled my pan order they've lost me forever. Ordered a $500 pot and pan set. Realized I ordered a similar but incorrect set. Called within minutes. Was told I could not cancel within moments of ordering. Was told I have to receive the order and then initiate the return request. Now I have waited and received the package, I had to call them back to start the cancellation/return request. It took over an hour on the phone to achieve this. Thanks for the inconvenience! Now I have to return this package, go out of my way to find a place to print the shipping label bc I don't have a printer, and I've spent countless moments on hold or on the phone. There have been some staff changes. SADLY Lisa has moved on. I don't know about the complained about "manager". I haven't seen her lately. Anyway, I had to return a garlic press that frankly did not work...bad design. I was helped by two of the new staff. A guy who seemed to be in charge and a lovely young lady. They were extremely gracious and efficient. I had snipped off the barcode on my reciept which rendered it unuseable for a return. The "in charge guy" handled the problem by pulling up my very recent reciept in the computer. He was extremely upbeat about this glitch and the extra work it caused. Zero attitude... nice...fast...reassuring! In several visits lately, I have noticed new faces... all smiling! Upbeat sweet natured folks abound now. This William Sonoma has a creepy vibe to it. I came here a couple weeks ago to pick something up from my sister's wedding registry. There's a tall skinny dude that seems to not like people because when I asked him for help, he looked startled and uncomfortable that i asked him a question. I found out from another clerk that he' a manager. WTF. Anyway, I ended up leaving this weird place and calling the 800 number and ordering from them to have some cookware delivered for the wedding. I rarely leave comments like this but I just had the weirdest experience at this store. I went to buy a Shun knife, knew exactly what I wanted, and it was/ should have been pretty simple. I walked in to a male employee scolding another employee in a very rude way (in front of myself and other customers). The employee who was being scolded clearly was new and needed to be trained. She was trying to help me find my knife & when the other employees saw her struggling they did not try and help, even when they saw me standing there waiting. Finally I went to the front desk and asked a third, female employee, if she could help find the knife as I was on a bit of a time crunch and the person helping me was having a hard time. She rudely came over and told the other employee what she was doing wrong (not in a constructive way, and again, in front of me, loudly) I then went to the desk to pay where the third employee checked me out and handed me my receipt and items literally without saying a word to me. She was so rude! Not only to me but also to the poor woman working there who clearly has no guidance or help. I love William sonoma. I have experienced great customer service at other locations and on the phone. I came in today for a honest price adjustment. As per online customer service and even called the store beforehand making the trip over. The Cashier was super polite and Great. The " manager" in his fake Hermès scarf was arrogant and aggressive stating he doesn't know how to make the adjustment. The customer service is pretty dreadful. I had purchased a marble bathroom soap dispenser albeit about a year ago, not only did the white marble turn yellow, the bottom fell off! I mentioned it to the associate, she said if it was within 30 days I could bring it back, I of course told her it was not. She informed me that perhaps that one had shoddy workmanship, but truthfully they are a kitchen store, perhaps I should go to Bed Bath and Beyond! Yes, perhaps I will, perhaps I will go anywhere but there. I walked into this store with my girl friend. My girl friend said hello to the the security guard, or whomever, was at the front area of the store (July 2021 time frame). He looked at her as he was disgusted by her and said nothing. Another woman walks in and he does the exact same thing to her. I kept watching. A man comes in and the security guy greeted him. Every time I walk into the store, I'm reminded why I don't shop here. I made the fatal mistake of taking a photo of something that I wanted some advice on from a friend. I was then told by staff that photography is not allowed in the store, and after he confirmed that I deleted the photo from my phone, he snidely remarked "the pictures on our website are going to be better anyways." Very unhelpful customer service. Permanently changed my view on customer service at WS, which was previously positive. My wife and I wanted to return some items, so we took a taxi from our place (4 large boxes don't move themselves!), and we showed up 5 mins after the store closed (8:05pm). It was late Jan in NY, so it's obviously very cold outside. Sadly, the customer service people (two separate people) went through a laundry list of reasons why they couldn't help us (one of which included the fact that they were "tired of dealing with customers since 12pm") without trying to come up with a mutually convenient solution. Terrible return policy. Think before purchasing! I purchased some hanging metal baskets as a birthday gift for my boyfriend. We had just signed the lease on a new place. By the time his birthday passed and he realized the baskets didn't fit in our new kitchen, the 30 day return window had passed. We figured we could at least get store credit, but instead we're stuck with them. I called customer service and was told store managers can make exceptions to the return policy, but was told by the store that they won't make any exceptions. Even though the store is still selling the product and I have the receipt, they won't take it back for store credit. This will be my last William Sonoma purchase! read more

I went to exchange a gift I received for a different color (not return as I didn't have the receipt and was fine with some stores having that policy. ) and I was met with such attitude and "not my problem" kind of attention. The greeter at the front was pleasant but the 2 other ladies- 1 was manager and one wasn't (I think someone else has commented on her bad 'tude) couldn't have cared less!. They said the person who got me the gift (who lives 4 states away), had to be here or I had to have gift receipt. Really? It's a different color! Thank god I didn't lug a huge pan here! I love Williams Sonoma products but the returns process is so painful that, unless you are 150% sure that you will like what you buy, I would encourage you to buy it from somewhere else. Also, for gift purchases made online, credit will only be refunded to the recipient via mailed gift card. The whole process is incredibly cumbersome to deal with and staff are not helpful. read more

Ugh! Why do I always get the feeling that I'm going to knock something over, or break something when I walk in these tightly packed, glorified houseware stores? In the winter, it's DOUBLY worse. Winter coat, doing my "tin soldier shuffle", through the aisles, is not really a fun experience. But I do it to please my partner. (I can't believe I've reached an age, where they are making "Star Wars" pancake molds, and batter, and cookie cutters....) That's like turning Prince's Purple rain into Muzak in my office elevator. There's something so "clarifying" about how marketing sells us stuff, that just become crystal clear. Don't get me wrong. I like the "rubber grip" egg scooper as much as the next guy. (and then set it down and not buy it) But the product selection is not what gains this store 1 star on this day. It was the "demo" person who was guilting people into giving him a dollar for his tip jar, if we wanted to stay and take samples of his rum soaked bread. As I angeled my way to the counter, through the maze of heavyset housewives, I envisioned a cataclysmyc disaster, of me bumping them, and us taking that store down. That, didn't happen. Crisis averted. But as I sheepishly walked away from the counter eating my 1 inch square morsel, the guy was almost over the top in his demands for new faces, and to stuff his coffee cup with more dollars. this store is relatively smaller than other stores, but i had a great time at their free technique class! i went to the 'spring desserts' class, which all you need to do is call your nearest WS store and ask for the time and availability to sign up for them. these are NOT cooking classes, which are not free, but technique classes! meaning there isn't much handling and cooking for yourself, but simply watching and occasionally helping to whip up some cream or juicing a lemon. our instructor was kiki, assisted by larry. they were both amazing and so friendly, describing step-by-step instructions to make the perfect meyer lemon cake. the recipes and a calendar of upcoming classes plus description of what's in season are provided. they did not press on the participants to buy certain products, but they did describe what utensils and equipment they were using (all available in the store, obviously). if you are tempted to buy, you do get a 10% discount on the total of your purchases! after 1 to 1.5 hours, we were able to sample the delicious desserts (meyer lemon cake and strawberry tart for this particular class)! read more

They were extremely patient walking me through my options, gift wrapped my gift, put plastic over it since it was cloudy just incase it rained, and then opened the door for me on my way out. (he is the one who helps you with knives) I loved my experience. Everyone was friendly.
