It's probably worth making a reservation (as we did) as this place tends to be quite busy. The food was very nice. The meal I had (sausage and mash) wasn't particularly good value at a shade over ten pounds. My friends had chosen a better value meal in the form of garlic chicken which was served on giant oval plates for around ten pounds. Service was very good, the food was served good and hot and there is the full range of pub drinks (including a good range of draught ciders) to take advantage of.

It's a lovely, flower-decked half-timbered building, with which my guests from overseas were delighted. The interior is in keeping, too, and everyone enthused about the reasonably priced roast chicken. Not me, though I had the 'Pork Pie Ploughman's', for I don't like a heavy meal in the middle of the day. And, being something of a connoisseur of pies, this was as good as the product of Melton Mowbray although they're not allowed to call it such these days, for 'Melton Mowbray' is now a PDO. I can't speak for the beer, for it was my turn to drive. The others pronounced it satisfactory, though.

When I got inside I was disappointed because immediately you see a "slot machine" (one of those gambling machines you have in English pubs). I have nothing against them but given the history of the place, I think the owner would be better off making sure the place has a historic feel. As for the beer, they had only one cask ale (again disappointed) with all the other beers being the usual (Guiness, Heineken, etc); definitely not what I expected.

It's remote and I guess it does most of it's trade from a bizarre mix of twitchers, walkers, holiday camp people (there's a caravan park nearby) locals and beach bums!!!! Nevertheless, it's a little gem..... The staff were especially friendly & obliging. They keep Harvey's and whilst the interior decor seems lost somewhere in the 70's or 80's it's as cosy inside as it was freezing outside....and boy it WAS cold! Their big thing is fresh fish & shellfish. It's excellent. Unsuprisingly, the fish is as local & as fresh as could be and they pride themselves on it. The plaice comes highly recommended. It's no gastro-pub, just a coastal local that you feel instantly at home at. I'd certainly visit again just to continue working my way through that fish!!! Happily recommended!!!

People were singing in French and listening to good music. The food was delicious and the serving was a good sized portion. I was raised partly in Italy and this was some of the best Italian food I've had in 15 years of visiting the U.K. since I graduated Uni there. An Italian family own and operate the place and they're hospitality is second only to the food. Absolutely amazing meal, just tell them what you don't like and they'll bring the rest. This place is fantastic, easy walk from Dover Castle and just so happens to be Dovers oldest pub. The menu for lunch is small, feels like it's because they want to do things right. The fish and chips- highly recommend. However unless you are starving I recommend you split it with a friend. When we arrived we were immediately greeted, service was excellent. For families like us, they do have high chairs. They will take your order if you sit inside. There's also an outdoor garden however you need to come to the counter to order. Same with drinks. Each room has a lot of history. Take one look around and there's a lot going on. Apparently this location used to be a part of monastery and has evolved over the years now to a great pub. Each dish we enjoyed, the vegetarian linguine was fresh, chips were delicious and the fish was wonderful. If you're cruising in and need a place for a good meal not too far from the port or to Dover Castle- I recommend you swing on in. Highly casual so you can come as is or for special occasion.
