I came down with the mother of all respiratory infections, which I'm almost certain I picked up at our overpacked gym - because no good deed goes unpunished, after all.
It started off innocently enough with sniffles and sneezes, but within a few days took a sharp turn for the worse, with all kinds of more severe symptoms, leaving me sick as a dog and basically flattened out at home. I've suffered through many colds and flus over the years, but this was something else entirely.
It wasn't getting better, so I bit the bullet and decided it was time to go in. My PCP was unavailable, so I made an appointment with Dr. DeWolf.
To be honest, after many disappointing experiences with the medical establishment throughout my life, these days when I go in, I keep my expectations low, and fingers crossed that I'll be able to at least get my basic needs met without too much of a hassle.
I met with Dr. DeWolf, and from the start, had a good feeling about him. He was polite, attentive, not dismissive nor condescending, and read carefully through the write-up I had prepared about the multitude of symptoms I had suffered through over the prior two weeks.
After listening carefully, he won me over when he said "With your approval, these would be my suggestions...."
Did the seas just part?? A doctor who actually recognizes a patient is in charge of her own healthcare?!? Hallelujah!
Dr. DeWolf explained the meds he was recommending, I agreed it was the right approach, and I was off to start getting better. It will be a while before I'm back to 100%, but I'm on my way with what I'm confident is the correct treatment.
More than anything, I appreciate Dr. DeWolf treating me with respect and as an equal in my own healthcare decisions. I would recommend him without reservation. read more
