My mouth has never been an easy one, yet he was totally competent and capable. His office staff were always kind and professional. If there is a downside to seeing this doctor, it is indeed that he is expensive. Unfortunately one has to pay to see the best. The second downside is that he has too many patients. What this means for you is that you must book appointments months in advance. It's at least 4-6 weeks in between each appointment. It slowed things down more than I wanted to, but again chose him because of the referrals I was given to him. He is the best in town.

I texted Dr. Koshgerian about it & was set up for a follow up a week or so later. Came in for a quick visit and he reassured me that it was normal (it is a risk of removal after all) and hopefully, I'd regain the feeling in a couple months! I'm hopeful that it will. I appreciate the attentiveness and kindness they had toward me. If I ever need any future procedures, I'll definitely know where to go.

Fast forward several years later and after several attempts to find the right orthodontist and oral surgeon, in addition to having the insurance to approve and pay for these procedures, I decided to have braces and oral surgery. This process started in 2019. After about a year and a half of braces, I was referred to Dr. Tafilis by my primary care physician. Dr. Tafilis was fair, upfront, and explored all the risks with my procedures. He first performed an upper jaw surgery expanding my upper jaw to align my lower jaw. There were no complications with this surgery. After another 3 years of braces, it was time to complete my double jaw surgery in the summer of 2024. The surgery went smooth however unfortunately there were some issues with my jaw post surgery. This risk was accepted as my case was usually challenging as I had a prior surgery in my youth. What was suppose to be only a month of having my jaw wired turned into almost 5 months. For privacy reasons I will not go into details, however, I will say Dr. Tafilis did not give up and saw to that my care was not complete until the issues from my surgery were corrected. He provided me with his personal cell phone number, checked in on me regularly, by text or phone. On Thanksgiving of 2024, I finally ate my first solid food meal and in Jan of 2025 I got my braces off. I can't Thank Dr. Tafilis and his staff enough for the life changing benefits that his procedures have provided me. After years of not being able to confidently smile, chew my food correctly, and have breathing difficulties, I am so great full for him and his team. I would recommend Dr. Tafilis to anyone considering corrective jaw surgery.

The verdict is out... in the end - (in my opinion) Dr. Adel Tawfilis helped his peer get away with…read moreseveral thousand dollars in injuries when she planned to "extract a single tooth" and replace it with an implant, only to realize mid extraction that she screwed up and that the 'single tooth' was in fact attached as one of four anchors to a bridge. Instead of doing the right thing, his peer continued as if she didn't make a mistake, destroying the bridge, damaging several teeth and omitting facts from medical records. Perhaps his peer was unable to find a willing 'expert' out of almost 7,500 oral surgeons in Los Angeles. Fortunately for her, Dr. Tawfilis in San Diego provided his "expert opinion" that aligned with her "single tooth" false mantra. Dr. Tawfilis provided his expert opinion ignoring facts, conditions and injuries and provided his expert opinion that his peer extracted a single tooth: ignoring the fact it was one of four natural tooth anchors to a bridge; and ignoring the fact that a surgeon is not qualified to treat (or act as an expert witness for) the condition, or injuries that his peer created. Nonetheless, he appears to have put his blinders on and provided an "expert" report that his peer "extracted a tooth" within the standard of care - nothing more, nothing less: yes, she grabbed a tooth, yes, she yanked on a tooth; yes, that tooth came out; and yes, it was within the standard of care for an oral surgeon to do that. Or as I would say in his shoes... "that's my story and I'm sticking to it." From my shoes I would say... I have the evidence and am willing to share it. So, if Dr. Tawfilis suggests a procedure or perhaps gives advise - if I were his patient - I would think... "what is he NOT telling me" and/or "is he telling me the truth." Birds of a feather stick together.

Although I don't have the experience with any other oral surgeon in San Diego, based on my…read moreexperience, I'd be willing to bet money that Dr. Beaty is the best! From the beginning (consultation) to the end (post-op), the care, expertise and professionalism I received from him, as well as from his staff, were first class. To make a long story short, after my initial consultation with Dr. Beaty, to save some money I decided to have a wisdom tooth that was bothering me extracted by a general dentist; a week after I had the terrible experience of having it traumatically yanked out and the severe chronic, throbbing pain that followed, I made my way back to Dr. Beaty for him to extract the remaining three. I found him on yelp and in the beginning made the decision to go with him because of the many positive reviews, particularly of how many others claimed it was painless... this of course is dependent on different factors and varies from one person to another but considering all of the horror stories that are often associated with this type of procedure, I wanted to go with the best recommendation. After the extraction and recovery I already had with the dentist, I was not looking forward to the procedure as I feared to experience more dreadful pain although I knew it would be different this time around because I was seeing a surgeon and would be under anesthesia. TRUST ME, there's a reason why it is advised this procedure should be done by an oral surgeon and not by a general dentist! It will be more costly, but it's definitely worth it!!! Of my three remaining wisdom teeth, I had one that was partially in the bone and two soft tissue; the procedure went well and I was surprised that afterwards, even after the anesthesia and numbness wore off, I experienced NO pain and no discomfort, other than what was ordinary (tenderness) from having teeth extracted. I'm also very small and expected swelling and bruising but never did! I was AMAZED --- again considering the comparison I had. I kept on waiting for the pain to kick in with my Percocet very close by, and it never came! I wanted to add that I cannot say enough about the quality of service I received from Dr. Beaty and his staff. They all took such great care in thoroughly explaining everything so that I had very little questions. On the day of my surgery, they took another panoramic x-ray to double check the extraction site of the tooth that had been pulled by the dentist to make sure everything was okay (because of the pain I was experiencing)... this was done at no additional cost! Dr. Beaty is truly concerned about his patients and not just about completing another procedure. After talking to him about his extraction method, I found that he takes more time and care with his patients to ensure they have the least amount of pain and the quickest recovery possible. I didn't even know I had stitches until I felt a piece of it as it was dissolving six days later! I resumed regular activity the day after my surgery and a week later, I'm almost able to eat normal foods again. Please don't make the same mistake I did! I may have saved some money getting the one tooth pulled by a dentist but I paid severely with pain and discomfort, a trade-off now as I look back was not worth it. My insurance company did pay a portion of it and I was able to obtain interest free financing for the remaining amount with the help of Dr. Beaty's admin staff. With this procedure, you definitely get what you pay for and if you're looking for the best oral surgeon in San Diego, the amount you end up paying will be worth every cent. Thank you Dr. Beaty and your staff (especially Theresa and Judy who are absolute sweethearts) for such a positive experience!

My dentist, Dr. Dennis Lee, referred me to Dr. Beaty earlier this year when I asked which oral…read moresurgeons he recommended to have my wisdom teeth extracted. I was able to schedule my consultation quickly and Dr. Beaty answered all of my questions about the extraction process and what to expect. He also worked closely with my hematologist and together they decided on the safest way to perform my surgery. I won't lie--I was extremely nervous about this procedure because I had been to two other surgeons in the past two years, but the timing never worked out and I wasn't entirely comfortable with either surgeon. After meeting with Dr. Beaty and receiving great communication from both his office and my hematologists office leading up to the surgery, I felt confident that I was in good hands. The women in the office are extremely professional and were great when preparing me for surgery. We chatted about smoothies and healthy eating which helped me relax beforehand. Having a great staff is an important part of the experience, and Dr. Beaty has that going for him, too. One other thing I have to mention is that my surgery was on a Thursday morning and the following Sunday I was experiencing a lot of pain in one tooth and had a headache that wouldn't go away, even with pain medication. I called the after hours line and Dr. Beaty called back almost immediately. He met me on a Sunday evening at 7:15 and put a medicated pack in the tooth that was aching. Within 30 minutes the pain had subsided along with the headache. He went out of his way to meet me at his office on a weekend, and I couldn't have been more grateful. If you're looking for a qualified, caring, skilled oral surgeon, I highly recommend you call Dr. Beaty. I'm so appreciative of him and Dr. Lee for referring me. I don't think the surgery could have gone any better. 8 days later I feel great and am so happy to no longer have those pesky wisdom teeth!
