I received several crowns from Dr. Johnson. They have been perfect for well over 15 years and I'm constantly receiving compliments on my smile. His work is meticulous and creative in that they look like my real teeth...not a set of perfect teeth in a row that look like chiclets! Just thought I would do an update as I needed a new oral appliance as I had a crown put in and my appliance did not fit securely any longer. I had a sleep study done and was diagnosed as having moderate obstructive sleep apnea, meaning I have 15-30 episodes of having difficulty with breathing or stopping my breathing per hour and waking up partially to gasp for air. This was causing me to be tired during the day. After receiving my appliance from Dr. Johnson and having another sleep study done I was almost normal and had very little episodes. I did not like the bulky cpap masks and found that I would still snore and had issues with leakage and wake up with a dry mouth. So me getting the appliance worked for me! My insurance covers about 80% and my portion is 20% of the total cost. read more

I used Peter Johnson, DMD, for my sleep apnea appliance about four years ago. I recently went back to get the appliance adjusted. Both times I have gone to this office, I have been impressed. For four years, my appliance solved my sleep apnea problem without the use of the CPAP machine (which I hated). Recently, when the appliance loosened and my sleep apnea returned, I called them, and they immediately offered for me to come in and adjust the appliance at no cost to me! Donna in the front office is really nice and seems to really care about the patient! They got me in quickly, even though I told them I was having some problem with my Cal Cobra insurance taking effect. Donna assured me that I could come in and have the appliance adjusted at no cost. Likewise, when I saw Dr. Johnson for the adjustment, he was really thorough and detail-oriented, I really like the quality of service and the way this office treats people. I would recommend them! Also, if you have sleep apnea and are using a CPAP machine, I suggest talking to your doctor about the possibility of getting the oral appliance instead and then trying Dr. Johnson to get it made. The appliance might not work for everyone, but it worked for me! So much better than that annoying machine! read more

DO NOT GO HERE FOR an OSA SLEEP APNEA APPLIANCE! I received a custom appliance from Dr. Johnson through Sharp (before they discontinued working with him due to many patient complaints of malpractice). My teeth began shifting from the mouthpiece within a few months, and Dr. Johnson attempted to tell me that it could not be because of the mouthpiece (despite the obvious effect and many research articles stating otherwise). My jaw and bite has shifted within 2 years due to the mouthpiece, and I now have an underbite due to his haphazard placement of the mouthpiece, which involved no precision or optimal placement. He argued that I could not possibly have had an overbite and denied any possible causal relationship. Sadly, I have heard account of other patients requiring jaw surgery after using his appliance. When molding the mouthpiece, he did not check my airway or the outcome of the device in relation to my sleep apnea. On my most recent routine adjustment, he made an entirely incorrect style of mouthpiece than we had agreed upon (was supposed to lock in front bottom teeth because they were shifting), and he seemed to point his frustration towards me when I told him it was incorrect. Dr. Johnson showed a combination of incompetence and arrogance in my visits with him. He does not seem up to date on current research and practices, and most likely has not adapted his methods since he was in school many years ago. Sharp Rees Stealy no longer works with him for a very good reason. He used to be the only option covered under insurance, but now they refer patients elsewhere after collecting years of complaints and claims of malpractice. read more

I started my process for permanent implants in 2016 with Dr. Peter Johnson. My husband and I met with Dr. Peter Johnson in 2016, the start of dental implants. Dr. Johnson spoke to us regarding the material type to use and how white I wanted my teeth to look. In terms of material, he said, "You can have an Impala or a Mercedes". I chose the Mercedes because I wanted for my teeth to last forever, at least that is what Dr. Johnson told us. Next, we spoke about the cost and he said it would be 25K. I paid Dr. Peter Johnson in cash, the full amount. Once he put in my temporary dentures started my nightmare with Dr. Peter Johnson. I had to go back so many times to get something fixed, cracked teeth and teeth that broke off!! From the beginning when I went to see him for broken teeth, etc., all he does is ban aid the problem. Finally, he put in my permanent teeth, which was for the rest of my life. As of today 4./24/2023 (7 years now), it's been nothing but problems and problems with my teeth continuing to crack, break, and other issues. To start with my permanent teeth, first, he never fitted my dentures to my measurements. As of today, there is a big gap between the bottom and top of my teeth. The first time that I went to see him tell him I was not happy with my dentures because of the gaps, more so on the left bottom teeth. This is what he told me to do and I quote"If the food is getting stuck, just drink water, swish it around, and then swallow!! This is so disgusting. I have asked him so many times to fit me with teeth that were going to fit me with no issues. One of the times he told me that I needed to pay him another 2K, which was over and above what I had already paid him the 25K. He is very unprofessional. He would curse when working on me when something was not going his way. The next time had to go see him, I ask Donna their office manager to let him know that I wanted to speak to him in private. I met with him and I told him that I did not appreciate him cursing while he was working on me to fix one of the many times I would go there to get broken teeth fixed. I was not satisfied that his office has no X-Ray machines nor does he have a Dental hygienist to clean my implants!! Today is April 24, 2023, and had to call to get an appointment for him to fix again the cracked pieces right upper tooth. In addition, my front teeth are moving forward so my teeth are not straight. He needs to fit me with a new set of dentures!! read more

I was referred to Dr. Johnson by Sharp Rees Stealy pulmonology department after having difficulty with my APAP machine. The pulmonologist said that the mouth guard is not for everyone, but that after consulting with Dr. Johnson, I would know the possible benefits. I looked into the reviews of the office and Dr. Johnson's work and was pleased with what I saw. I made an appointment with Donna, in Dr. Johnson's office, and was seen soon after. The office was clean, staff courteous, accommodating, as I was late due to parking issues, and quite patient. The Dr. was running ON TIME, asked good questions, spent ample time with me, and I felt that I was the only patient there at that time. After what I thought to be a thorough examination, Dr. Johnson took impressions of my mouth, explained how the guard would work, and a few weeks later I was back to try on my custom-made guard. Dr. Johnson explained all the side effects that I MAY have, and provided me with a number to call if any issues arose. At my follow up appointment, I was delighted to tell him that after five years of using my APAP, I was finally free of the machine while traveling and able to put the mouth guard in my purse! No more distilled water check at TSA, no more searching for special plugs when traveling to other countries. The guard is AWESOME, Dr. Johnson and his staff are top notch! Will make a follow up appointment with my pulmonologist and see how the sleep apnea is going with the guard. Thanks Dr. Johnson! You've made my life as a business traveler a whole heck of a lot easier! read more

We had a great experience with Dr. Johnson and his entire staff (especially Donna). I was referred to Dr. Peter Johnson by the SRS Pulmonary Dept. I have to say that I was very please from the moment I walk in and left. The staff was amazing, Donna greeted me with such a big smile as if I have known her for a long time. Dr. Peter Johnson was very receptive to my needs, his assistant was just as warm and friendly. Dr. Johnson made sure that I was satisfied with the work he did and gave me detailed instructions. I was also please that I didn't have to wait and making an appointment was a breeze. Dr. Peter Johnson knows the meaning of customer care! About 25 years ago I had an implant put in, recently the abutment screw became stripped and needed to be replaced. I found out that they didn't make the abutment screw anymore locally. However, Dr Johnson managed to find the manufacture and ordered it for me. He went above and beyond, as other dentists did not. Everyone at the office is awesome and really follow up with their patients. I will continue as a satisfied customer and will be referring friends and family! read more

I shopped around for quite a while and Dr. Johnson was the most affordable prosthodontist I found, while coming up with a plan of action with which I concurred. I came to him with a couple of partials and after some oral surgery, I received a temporary set of complete dentures. He is still working on my permanent set, but I'm sure I'll be thrilled. Great service and wonderful people working for him. My dentures are amazing, fit great and I couldn't be happier. 4/24/17 - I received my permanent dentures, and as I thought, I'm ecstatic. Dr. Johnson made them a bit wider and taller, allowing my teeth to be seen more when I speak and filling my face out for a more natural appearance. They fit perfectly. I finally have the smile I've always wanted. Thank you!! read more

I was referred to Dr. Johnson for sleep apnea. The mouth guard he created has made a huge difference in my life. Often we don't know what we are lacking until we get what we need. With the mouth guard I am sleeping through the night, and more importantly breathing, uninterrupted, through the night. I wake up refreshed and rested. Simply amazing. No mask, no airline attaching me to a machine, just the guard. Donna at the front, it always accommodating, professional and kind. Would absolutely recommend this office! read more

Dr. Johnson is the premier implant and crown specialist in San DIego. I had ground all of my teeth down due to sleep bruxism, and required crowns on nearly all of my teeth, upper and lower. Dr. Johnson worked tirelessly to insure that my teeth aligned perfectly and had the proper bite between the upper and lower teeth. Fast forward many years, and I knocked out my upper front teeth tripping over a curb at O'Hare airport in Chicago. Again, I returned to Dr. Johnson for my dental care. He did 3 implants to replace my missing upper teeth. It has been many, many years since Dr. Johnson completed my various dental procedures and I have NEVER had ANY problems with the dental work that he has performed. Always the consummate professional, I highly recommend Dr. Johnson for your dental needs. Based on the dental work that Dr. Johnson has done on me, and my satisfaction with his dental work, I would gladly give him a 10 star rating if that were possible. Peter F Johnson, DMD - Peter F. Johnson DMD - General Dentistry Near Me - La Mesa, California

I have been a patient of Dr. Johnson's for almost 7 years now. I am a very unique patient as typically Dr. Johnson is preparing these specialized dentures for much older individuals. I was 25 years old when I needed a full oral replacement due to a genetic disorder called Dentinogenesis imperfecta. This was a tough experience for someone my age to have to go through, but Dr. Johnson and his team made the experience something to remember. From the first appointment Dr. Johnson was open, honest, and with no other word to describe it better very BLUNT with me. He was honest about all of the options and to my surprise did not suggest the most expensive option for me. Looking into my age and history we found a middle package that met the needs I had and would also hold up the best over my lifetime. Without Dr. Johnson I do not know where I would be in my battle with my old teeth, but I am so grateful I don't have to worry about that. If you have the option make Dr. Johnson your choice! read more
