A Vermont style supersized general store is what Willey's is. Its name implies that it's a hardware store which a quarter of it is. Willey's also has kitchenware, outdoor clothes / gear, grocery, deli, wine & beer and little bit of everything else too like toys, postcards and souvenirs. They are the largest country store I've seen in VT and Willey's takes up a big chunk of downtown Greensboro. In fact, I only saw one other shop here....so downtown Greensboro is mostly Willey's. They seem to take up 2 very old (100+ years) houses. If you are visiting rural NE K for other destinations, Willey's is a likely stop for local brews, cheeses, gears or sustenance. Parking is free. Real general stores don't seem to exist outside of few states now. Though Willey's is an institution, they are very different from many I've been in VT. Do hope Willey's keeps the charm of rural VT country stores and people continue to visit and keep them in business! read more

I've owned a 2nd home in the Greensboro/Craftbury area for a long time, and spend a large part of each summer there. Willey's used to be an excellent general store, but in the last 2-3 years, it has definitely gone downhill. I don't know if it changed hands or what. Issues: 1. They don't seem to keep on top of stock very well anymore. It used to be that you could go in for groceries, hardware, or clothing, and they had some depth to their stock. Nowadays, you go in, and there are bare shelves in places, day to day. You can't count on them having anything specific anymore. 2. They used to have a good selection of grab & go sandwiches, that were excellent, not sure where they came from. Not they have tasteless mundane sandwiches in Boar's Head wrappers that I would not give to my dog. 3. Even simple stuff like cold drinks has gone downhill. How do you run out of Coke products for days, for God's sakes? read more

Super cute lil store chock full of the best craft beer you could ever want to see..Hill Farmstead, Freak Folk Bier, Lost Nation..it's surreal. You can also buy lots of other cool stuff as it's a hardware store. I drove 3 hours round trip to buy some highly select craft beer and it was so worth it. read more

Willey's is THE place to be in Greensboro-OK, to be truthful, it is the ONLY place to be. But it is still an awesome place to while away some time browsing or find something you actually need. They have an extensive wine and beer selection (including Hills Farmstead in case you didn't make it to Beet Mecca) as well as a full hardware, home goods, toys and food section. Believe me, it is MUCH larger inside than it looks. Refresh with cold beverages, Bein Fait baked foods or an ice cream treat. Prices are surprisingly reasonable. Willey's is a Greensboro institution! You can get all of your groceries here - they carry lots of local items including fresh produce. You can also get nice Vermont souvenirs here, including postcards, t-shirts, books of gorgeous local photography, maple syrup - etc. And there's more! Upstairs is a whole clothing department, with everything from t warm winter clothes to sunhats, to shoes and boots. There's a hardware section on the side. They used to sell gas but no longer do. The only bad things about Willey's is they close at 5 pm. So plan ahead - you have to visit this place, again and again! read more

The Willey's Store is an old fashion Vermont general store. Set in a 100+ year old building in downtown Greensboro, this store is an entire downtown in a single store. It sells groceries, beer and wine, meat, cheese, plumbing and hardware, Vermont gifts, fishing and hunting supplies, and clothing. Not much has changed since 1900 except the merchandise. Willey's is located in a fairly wealthy area where many people from out-of-state own second homes on Caspian Lake. That means things like the meat, produce, beer and wine are quite good. It's a great place to visit just to see the place. read more

Your last stop before Hill Farmstead to grab a sandwich They have a ton of VT beer along with a good number of ciders. Small deli, pre-made sandwiches are in the fridge next to the deli counter. Really friendly staff. If you have to use the restroom, you will be led down into a scary dungeon so fair warning. read more

If they ain't got it you don't need it! Willeys is one of those classic country stores that are almost a thing of the past. Good food selection (at least for my taste), a hardware store through the passageway, and a whole kitchen supply house upstairs! Down in the basement is the plumbing section for all those large fittings and long pipe you need. Don't tell anyone but there is a cubicle of a bath down there that is secret. Hard to find if you don't know where to look. Oh yeah, they have a good selection of clothes, boots, gloves, etc. upstairs from the food section. Outside is a gas pump that is usually very competitive with stations in the larger towns. In fact I usually found that it was cheaper. And yes it's a rental store too! I rented everything I needed to sand down hardwood floors and the rental is cheap and they charge just over cost for the sandpaper. How can you beat it? They Willey's is a sprawling general store catering to the summer-crowd at nearby caspian lake. Its a bit pricey, but for convenience, come on. . . It has a grocery with a butcher. . . (you can get bait from him: same refrigerator) . Decent wine selection, hardware store off to the right and year-round clothing department takes up the entire upstairs (not much for fashion sense though, strictly utilitarian). They dabble in movie rentals. Good cold beverage selection, (Moxie! and Vermont beers). There is a old-school gas pump outside, and bulletin board for community events. Pick up a copy of the Hardwick Gazette and make smalltalk with the clerk. read more

We heard that Willey's had everything you needed, but didn't believe it till we saw it for ourselves. Merrell hiking boots, fishing licenses, gasoline, local foods, rafts, you name it they have it. It was a lifesaver of a store in out in rural VT. So glad we didn't travel 30 min to a price chopper. read more

Willey's has EVERYTHING: from a full selection of food staples at reasonable prices, to an excellent variety of gourmet, specialty, and local Vermont artisanal products, great wine selections, a big display of microbrewery beers, hard ciders, and exotic offerings like mead... and that is just the grocery department. In addition to this, they have a nice selection of local souvenir t-shirts and sweatshirts, cold weather clothing, and more boots than you can shake a stick at in their clothing department. The hardware section could be a store unto itself, with every imaginable type of tool, nail, screw, washer nut, rope, chain, garden supplies, guns, ammo, fishing gear, and snow management tools. There is also an upstairs with kitchen and housekeeping items. As others have said, if Willey's ain't got it, you don't need it! In addition to being a great place to shop, Willey's is a slice of old-time Americana, a throwback to older, simpler days, which makes for an excellent shopping experience. read more

I love this store, always visit it when in Vermont. You can find a variety of things there. The clothes section upstairs is somewhat expensive but you can get some good quality stuff. And in a crunch you can get a medium priced items like sweatshirts, etc. It usually has a good selection of locally made jams, mustards, spreads. And it's a local landmark, there are less and less stores like that left around the country. read more

I agree with all the other reviews. This is just the best store. I come from Australia and sometimes stay nearby with friends and a trip to the Willey's store is a must. I, too, still wear garments I bought from the clothing department. The wine department is fantastic, with a great selection of Australian wines, amongst others. read more
