Have eaten here several times in the past, but it has been a few years since the last visit and I…read morehope this latest experience isn't indicative of where the restaurant is at. Booked a table for 4 the day before a midweek visit. No opportunity to book online which is a shame but the call was answered quickly the day before. Upon arrival for an 18:30 booking, we were taken to what I can only describe as a "well" area which I hadn't been seated before, which has poor lighting and very uncomfortable pew-style seating. Once seated the service from the young waitress was excellent and attentive. My co-diners ordered chicken fingers and a classic seafood cocktail for starters and initially, the fingers were dry and felt like it hadn't been recently cooked, which was a warning of what was to come. The "Classic seafood cocktail" was very small and again the warning is in the title. the word Classic would apply if it was called a Prawn cocktail, there is nothing classic about the term seafood cocktail but it is actually just a way to legitimise the replacement of prawns with other seafood sources. For mains, I ordered a combo fajita with extra tortillas which was very good but again the very small dish and paper sauce pot provided for the sides were cutting corners with the offering. My companions ordered burgers of various types but all 3 arrived very dry/overcooked along with the bacon and pulled pork toppings. These shouldn't have left the kitchen but it seems that maybe to manage orders the kitchen is pre-cooking these items and then either flash frying or leaving them on the side of the hot plate, to stay warm but also dry out, as 1 may be a mistake but all suffering from this effect is an indicator that there is a systematic issue. It was a shame as when we mentioned to the waitress about the poor quality being the reason we left food another waitress came over and said we should have said pre-bill paying we had an issue but that she would remember our faces when we came back to do I am not sure what in terms of improving the experience but it wasn't a discount for sure. Either way, it was a disappointing and expensive experience.

I used to go here years back and enjoy the cocktails and food. Staff are really friendly and…read moreupbeat. But it hasn't moved on. Ribs and wings were ropey. Better burgers at the Ship pub 500 yrds away. Won't be going back anytime soon.

For special occasions we always make our pilgrimage (Ziyaret) to our favourite Turkish restaurant…read more This time it was for my partners birthday (which one I daren't mention) so a table was booked a few weeks ago because of the pandemic and to make sure. I mentioned, at the time of booking online, of this fact. Huseyin was his usual perfect host with the traditional hand spray before anything. He restricted bookings to 4 tables a night to follow coronavirus precautions. We wondered how they had coped during this pandemic but, as he said, they did take-away as soon as it was allowed. All I can say is, it worked. This fantastic restaurant was still here and thriving, thank goodness. The service hadn't changed, nothing is too much for them. There is NEVER a rush. As for the food, delicious. A bottle of good Turkish red wine takes us back to that Turquoise Coast. With bread and wonderful dips. A yoghurt dip and the other a biting chilli dip that I will have to pinch the recipe. We love it. Chicken kebab with all the trimmings for my partner and the chefs special of Creamy Chicken Guvec for me. Small pieces of slow cooked chicken in the chefs cream sauce with mushrooms, asparagus, onions and peppers. That dish is 'to die for'. So filling though. Finishing off with coffee, medium sweet Turkish for me. As if that wasn't enough, out of the kitchen came a plate of cake, with candle, and ice cream for my partners birthday with a bunch of flowers. Everyone singing Happy birthday. That brought a few tears to her eyes. A wonderful thought, and I must thank you for that, it made the evening special. What made it really special was seeing Gizem, Huseyins wife. That wonderful beaming smile of hers was accentuated by the fact that a new waiter was in the offing in a few months time. So pleased for them but we couldn't give them hugs. They know, so they were virtual. A fab couple. Still the best Turkish restaurant in the area, and in my estimation outside of Turkey. Trust me, if you are in the area, give it a try. You will not be disappointed. Look at the reviews!!!!!

Great find!…read more Everything was fresh / cooked to order. We enjoyed Hummus, Kisir and Cacik as appetizers. For our main, we had Chicken Shish, Adana Kofte and Grilled King Prawns. Although entree portions were large, we managed to split a Sutlac for dessert. Very tasty. I would definitely recommended as both the service and general experience were incredible. We got to meet and spend a little time with the owners - which was a memorable touch.

So when I saw what looked to be a unique Thai place, I decided to roll the dice - even though there were no Yelp reviews. Thankfully the owners of Siam Cottage really want to provide a memorable experience. This is first evident in the decor... the furniture, statues, paintings ad other art leave no doubt you are (temporarily) in Thailand. The service is prompt and friendly, plus the food hits the spot. Is it insanely, authentic, spicy/pungent Thai like you might fine in Chiang Mai? No. But this is Chelmsford. I found it tasty and they serve chiles if you want to kick things up a notch. It's also a big place. If you live near, I'd consider throwing a party here. As mentioned, the staff are friendly and I thought it was funny that after finishing my entree, I was served a cute little mince pie as a holiday treat. I was also impressed that the restrooms were insanely clean. Back in a another life I used to manage hotels so I pay attention to side things cause they indicate how much effort the management makes. I didn't meet any Essex girls in Chelmsford, but definitely found a place I'd love to visit again.
