We discovered this spot thanks to Yelp. It was a favorite of our entire trip to Europe. It changed the whole complexion of the visit -- we would have had no idea it existed if I had not looked up restaurants online 5 minute before lunchtime.. Went back the next day to get our fill and it was just as good.
This is the true Swiss alpine cuisine -- think gooey melted Swiss cheese and potato creations -- fondu, raclette, etc -- with crisp local white wine in an open air mountain wildflower meadow setting against a cathedral of mountains that feels like the Sound of Music. The restaurant is a restaurant halfway up the mountain -- skiers ski in in the winter and during the summer it is a great stopping point during hike. We telephoned at lunchtime on a warm sunny July afternoon and the owner came right away and picked us up in his car from the condo we rented and drove us up to the restaurant -- all of five minutes. The route is otherwise closed to cars but you can also walk up the path for 20 minutes (not advisable with little kids). However, there's a playground by the restaurant for the kids which works great.
This is my first Yelp review but I felt compelled two months after our return to share how nice a place this is. We will visit Leukerbad again soon, we hope! read more
