This review is for the bar attached to this restaurant. What an amazing change from when We stopped here last year for a quick drink. Not a great place. Smelled of stale beer and was very dark. Decided to give it another try and so glad we did! The place was bright, clean, and friendly. The bartender was attentive and informed us that it was buy 1, get the second for $1! Popped in for lunch with my buddy and his mother. The restaurant was a ghost town. I ordered a buffalo chicken wrap ($13) that was pretty good. Mainly buffalo chicken cut up inside the wrap but also lettuce and possibly some blue cheese. The chips and pickle on the side were good too. I also ordered a large garden salad ($9) that was decent. My buddy got homemade chicken tender dinner ($16) plate. I could tell he was bummed the order only comes with 3 tenders. He said they were very good tho and the light breading was like a shell on the chicken. His side salad was small but he enjoyed it. The fries looked good. His mom got the cheeseburger medium rare and it was well done. She ate it but said thats typical of Wilderness. Overall a pretty decent option to get a bite to eat with limited choices nearby. For what this place is, and where it is, I am giving it a solid 5 stars. It is a true local hang, putting the home in home style. On our way from Portland to Montreal (two food meccas) we just wanted something simple and wholesome and delish and this hit all the right notes. I grew up in a more rural part of Maine in the 80's and didn't think places like this still existed. Turkey bomb was the bomb, as was the hot open face turkey plate. Home made fries and a ridiculously good coconut crème pie. No frills, all flavor. Even paper placemats with local advertisements and tall plastic red coke cups with ice water. This is the kind of place that if it popped up in Brooklyn with the intention of creating ironic nostalgia for a traditional, local establishment, it could never be as satisfying as the real deal of Wilderness in Colebrook. Very disappointed after reading the reviews. The positive- the waitress was friendly. Unfortunately that is really all of the positive. The service was extremely slow (and the place was virtually empty) it took quite awhile to get anything to drink after receiving our soup the food came out 15 minutes later. Which was a problem time wise and had to be returned as even the waitress could see the chicken was undercooked. By the time the now dark brown and severely overcooked chicken was returned the remaining diner was finished. Oh and be aware they don't tell you about the up charges for using a credit card. It's okay. The food is alright but nothing special. It's kind of small and creepy upon first entering, but the staff is friendly and they have a lot of options. I would recommend not getting the fries, though, as they are quite limp and soggy. You get a lot of food with your meal, though, which is nice! All of us were so full we couldn't finish and that's kind of a nice feeling. read more

We happened upon this restaurant almost entirely by chance as we had just departed the cabin we were staying at near PIttsburg and were looking for a place to have breakfast. We saw a restaurant with an available parking space (a serendipitous combination) and went in. I had the corned beef hash and eggs and my wife had a breakfast wrap. My wife expressed that she also enjoyed her breakfast but at the moment is too far away fro me to gather specifics :-). The hash was clearly home made and exceptional, but the star of the meal was the homemade wheat toast which was freshly baked and delicious. I'd give this place zero stars if I could. This place was SO SLOW it took 45 minutes to get a clearly microwaved sandwich which had sat there long enough to go cold. Do yourself a favor and go across the street to Subway- faster, cheaper and likely better. read more

This was, opportune word, the place for breakfast in Colebrook NH. Heard it got sold a while back. Some changes took place. During the snowmobile season ordered the eggs Benedict, major let down from before. This morning I tried the eggs Benedict again, a tad better than last time. Actual real ham this time but the hollandaise sauce was bland. I ordered a side of bacon, it looked to have been cooked in a fryolator, over cooked times ten, not editable sent it back. My wife ordered a single pancake, they served it burnt, black side down. I will not be going back there again. It is too bad for I looked forward to going there when in Colebrook. The wait staff was great, running around trying to keep all happy. Over taxed kitchen staff??? Maybe try again in a couple of years, maybe. To sum it up, "It will make a Turd". read more

I don't have anything badly to say about this place. Quick service, the waitresses make sure your coffee mug is filled, good prices, and delicious food. My fiancé and I had breakfast here for the first time and enjoyed it. I had an omelette with amazing homemade bread. The omelette was huge! And my fiancé enjoyed his eggs Benedict. read more

Probably a 3 but I'll go 4 since they toasted the homemade hamburger bun and made the attempt to use real potatoes for French fries. The fries needed about 5 more minutes cooking time to have any crispness. They were limp and soft not crispy outside and soft inside like say 5guys. Maybe the bar isn't set very high up here in the northeast kingdom, but since there was nowhere else to go for breakfast in this town and we were starving we sat down to order despite how filthy the place was. How has no one ever noticed that the floors should be cleaned? The food was good, service was friendly, and prices reasonable. We did go to the Dunkin across the street at the gas station for a coffee on our way out of town though. I'd recommend going out to the IGA to pick up pastries instead of eating here if the kitchen is as poorly maintained as the restaurant floors! read more

First of all let me say that the town of Colebrook is a very small town with few eateries, but the ones they have make up for it with great flavor and choices. Wilderness is no exception. There's plenty of hiking, boating, and off road activities around, not to mention a motorcyclist's heaven with plenty of windy (not sure is spelled it right) roads. But to start the day, or end it, a stop here will certainly fill you up. The portions are enormous! The bread (homemade!) is delicious! They also have fresh made desserts baked daily! I don't know if it was just me, but I hated this place. It smelled bad. Waitress was inattentive, forgot my drinks twice, and kept warning us she was leaving to "smoke". We ordered Nachos, literally just a plate of tortilla rounds from the grocery store covered with artificial gas station cheese dispenser cheese wiz and gas station weird meatless chili. All for $10. Awful. I couldn't even eat it. My beer glass was dirty and smelled. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

We stopped here for lunch today. I do not recvomend to anyone. We have eaten here before and it was goood. Today was not. My mom and I ordered the gobbler sandwich and fries. I asked the waitress what it was and she said a turkey sandwich with stuffing, Mayo, cranbury sauce. When our order came 45 minutes later it was actually a that with gravy over it and mashed potatoes. Not what I thought it was and not what we were told. It tasted nasty with Mayo on it. I sent it back and the kitchen manager came out and said th3 waitress is new and didn't know what she was serving. And that some people like Mayo on their hot turkey sandwich. So she brought me out a turkey sandwich toasted, which I didn't want the bread toasted, and had to take it back as she didn't put the stuffing on it. When sh3 brought it back out it didn't hav3 cranberry sauce on it but I didn't say anything. It was however dripping with Mayo and our fries were undercooked and dripping in grease. I let the waitress know and they still charged us full price even though we didn't eat it. Will never go there again. And the place was so dirty, there was food on the seats and they weren't wiping off their tables or clearing them off until someone came to eat. The waitresses were young and were sitting there playing with their hair and then serving the food. Didn't see them wash their hands after playing with their hair. That's pretty gross. Can only imagine what the kitchen looked like. The people at the next table down we're having the same problem. read more

Had lunch here on July4, We were starving so decided to stop in. The bar section was packed because there was a parade that day so we sat on the other side. I ordered the chicken quesadilla. The peppers and onions were still raw inside. I was so hungry it didn't bother me much. I should have listened to my mother when she said the burgers are decent and ordered that instead.
