I feel like chicken tonight, like chicken tonight.... or well, last night. So on our way to a play we popped into Wild Wing a Canadian restaurant chain that recently opened up in the former Twisted Toque spot on King Street. It's claim to fame is 101 different chicken wing recipes to choose from. There is a flavour for everyone from the adventureous side to the plain jane sorts, if you like wings you will find a flavour to choose... though you might find too many to choose from is more the problem then anything else.
The decor is much the same as it was when it was the former restaurant & bar, no real renovations can be seen and it was my dining partner who pointed out even the banquets and chairs were still the same colour, so perhaps not even a coat of paint touched the walls... unsure. They did plaster their logo all around. A piloty looking double word under one another thing in typical red, white & blue, which is reminiscent of pretty much any Tex joint or College pub lettering. It does the trick, right?
While I'm not a sports bar fan, I do like a good chicken wing so that was what I was there for more so than worrying about updates to the establishment or anything like that. Most of the menu is your typical fare if not looking to do their signature thing. Fish & Chips, Burgers which were on sale the night we went, Nachos, Flatbreads.... but not was I was there for.... I wanted WINGS!!
You get your choice between Traditional (breaded) or Classic (unbreaded). The online menu also shows chicken bites for those who prefer boneless but to be honest I might have missed that on the physical menu because I didn't see it there. Then you choose your flavour from a long laundry list. I went with Honey Smoke which as you can expect was a combo of Honey Garlic & Smokey BBQ. The wings were nice and crisp even under the sauce, which was generous but not too much. It wasn't dripping off them or anything. The accompanying fries were meh... nothing special but again... I was there for Wings not the fries.
The service was... awkward? I really don't know how to put it but the young woman either this was her first ever serving job or she just doesn't read social cues or know the proper timing of it. Still she tried her best so A for effort, especially when the menu didn't have the things she was trying to tell us about.
At $15.99 for a pound it's a bit on the mid-higher range in price, for that I'd like better fries or more wings to replace the meh fries but it honestly is what it is! My friend J's chicken sandwich didn't fair as well, or at least in my opinion, it looked like a pre-seasoned frozen chicken that was heated up and slapped on a bun. It didn't look all that appetizing to me. So it's a mixed bag review I suppose. The wings I found were good, I'd go back for them. The decor... not my style but I can sit and eat so... it's fine. read more
