This is a great place to visit if you're looking for a fun night out and want to dance. There is a $10 cover and three levels: the first level is private, the second level (at the entrance) has multiple tables and TVs for a bar atmosphere, and the third level has a dance floor with loud music and a bar, which is where my friends and I spent most of the evening. Not sure if they do this every weekend, but they had a crew from 103.3 AMP Radio spinning beats and they did an amazing job. There's usually a song or two I don't like when going out and stop dancing, but that wasn't the case here. The line for drinks wasn't too bad for a Saturday night and all of the staff members were pleasant. I was here for a bachelorette party and the bride and company all had a fun time. There is karaoke here, but it's not really on display and you can barely hear whoever is performing. The wait is also pretty long and they might not let you sing the song you actually want to sing. If you're specifically looking for a place to host a karaoke night, check out some other options first. I plan on coming back here with a few friends from out of town (who like to dance as much as I do) once they visit Boston. read more

I just got back home after getting here at around 10-11PM Thursday by myself to sing karaoke and I've honestly never been so upset over how messed up i was treated during a night out. I sang 2 songs over a period of an hour or two and was having a good time before a brand new person who sat next to me at the bar started calling me racist terms and cursing at me after I jokingly grabbed his pitcher of beer and asked if he was planning on finishing the entire pitcher before closing. I might have made a bad joke but if he got offended I quickly apologized and was trying to mind my own business but quickly this guy became belligerent and continued to yell and be racist. There was an employee who talked to me after this happened and apologized for how much of a dick he was being. (Thank you! I appreciate it for real!!!) Then, a "bouncer" and "cop" showed up and I thought ok they can escort this guy out. But instead, they tell me to sit down in the same chair I've been coming back to the entire night while they dont even bother to talk to the clearly belligerent drunk. Meanwhile this racist drunk gets to walk around the karaoke area and when I go to the bathroom he "just happens" to show up at the same time and then threaten me as I try to leave. I kept the door to the bar open with my hand as I am afraid of his behavior and he says along the lines of "Why dont you close the door so I can fuck you up" with a racist term thrown in and slams the door on my arm as I leave. I tell the "bouncer" and "cop" at the door what just happened and I'm pretty upset and pissed at this point but they tell me to calm down and start siding with the other guy and tell me to stop causing a scene and leave if I dont like it. Im already calling a lyft home because I want to get the hell out of this place at this point and the racist gets to walk out into the street and call me a gook while I stand outside and when I tell the "bouncer" and "cop" outside they tell me to stop whining and go somewhere else. It was even worse at times than how I'm describing it here. The "cop" was having a lot of fun flashing his flashlight into a homeless man's face instead of listening to a word I had to say. Finally took my 2nd lyft home. Literally cancelled my first lyft after it got there because I got called a gook in the street and was so upset I had to say something to the bouncer and cop. read more

Came here for an event this past weekend. Great place to go with friends on a night out. Food: I tried the chicken quesadillas, the chicken tenders- regular and buffalo, and the pizza. The chicken tenders- exactly what I wanted. A nice large chunk of white meat with a bit of breading on the outside. Pizza- just ok, nothing too great Chicken quesadillas- just like your typical bar food- chicken and melted cheese. Must be eaten soon after ordered or the cheese hardens Drinks: They had a lot of nice fall beers on tap. I tried quite a few of them and they were reasonably price for the Boston bar scene. I had a gin and tonic as well- apparently bombay is well so that was definitely a plus! Good place to host an event or chill with a few friends on a night out. I will definitely be back! read more

I like to go out dancing especially with a group of friends. There is a $10 cover charge to get in on Saturdays and the space for dancing upstairs is small. Once it hits 11pm there is no space to move. The DJ was okay but I feel as if he could of had a better mixture when it came down to the party music and hip hop music he chose. The drink prices were reasonable though which was nice. The overall scene upstairs is trashy. I haven't eaten there or done karaoke so my rating is based on the dance scene. read more

It is difficult for me to put into words what I witnessed this past weekend at the Wild Rover. I can tell you that this experience will hopefully have my friends and others re-evaluate their choice before going to the Wild Rover. I had gone on a Saturday night with a group of 12 of my friends. Within minutes of entering one member of my group, my boyfriend, was targeted. An entitled white male went up to him to show him the exit and tell him to leave (this is without any interaction from our side). This comment immediately made him feel unwelcome in this place. Later into the night when navigating the overcrowded floor with my boyfriend behind me a white male yelled at him accusing him of shoving him. With me in the middle of the two of them I was the only witness and can contest to the fact his hands did not touch this other guys. Instead of stepping to the side as my boyfriend asked him, he continued to yell and call over a staff member. This staff member was very forceful and rude. Without taking a moment to figure out the issue my boyfriend was brought into the back hallway and was told him and his friends needed to leave. We were able to get the "manager" to join in this meeting but the staff member "who witnessed everything" kept speaking over me and my other friend who were defending my boyfriend and trying to explain the situation. The staff member did not conduct himself in any professional manner and to be honest it was hard to distinguish him from the rest of the sweaty drunk people on the floor. Frustrated with the lack of respect and unfairness of the situation we decided to leave. When exiting he received taunts like "Get him out of here!" from people who were not involved at all. How in 2018 can we allow for places that are supposed to bring enjoyable nights be a place where certain populations, such as people of color, be targeted? From a person who grew up and lives in Boston I can not tolerate this behavior to be normalized or acceptable in this city. read more

Everyone was great until we went outside for some fresh air and a smoke and then the "manager" wanted us to wait in an hour line to get back in to our tab when everyone told us we could go right back in. My boyfriend and I went to Wild Rover for cocktails and karaoke. It was pretty dead. The bartender was just OK. She didn't smile or look happy to be there and just wasn't very friendly. The KJ was a little rude. I would walk up to tell him what sound I wanted to do and he asked me if I had gotten the app to put in songs as he seemed annoyed that I was walking up to him to put in songs. There literally was a rotation of 4-5 people singing the whole evening. I don't think it was a big deal if I didn't want to download yet another app on my phone just to put in songs. The problem with this place, is if you come to perform karaoke is that they don't let you sing the songs you want to sing. The manager has pretty much banned any slow songs. Good luck trying to get the DJ to let you sing "Careless Whisper." If you are there late the dance floor will get packed. I would have given it 2 stars, but the karaoke selection is the owner's doing, not the DJ. Overall, the DJs are pretty nice. Their will usually be a drink special there, unless they run out of that particular beer. You will have a good time, but the crowd is younger, so take note. read more

$1 coors is no more--$1.50 bud light instead! Maybe it's different on different days. We went on a Friday. They 'ran out' around 930 or 10pm. After that all drafts are the same price and all the bottles are the same price. I don't get it... Fun music upstairs, funny karaoke downstairs. The staff were nice and seemed like they were having fun, especially laughing at the people who were dancing really funny at like 830 (too drunk too early). I came here with a group of people for DJ Dan's Karaoke (he hates me haha, right Dan?) and found the venue to be pretty good. They have 3 floors, a dance floor, karaoke/bar and a live music floor, maybe it changes day to day, but I came on Saturday. So, they have something for everyone. The owner was very nice to allow our group in free of charge, if you go to their site and request a list, then you and your group get in free and cut the line before 11:30. I like that! The drinks...some were stronger than others, but overall they were fine, prices are what you expect for the area, except for their $1 beers which is pretty awesome. While most of the bartenders were fun and friendly, there was one that did rub some of us the wrong way, but you don't let that spoil your fun, right? Good. Overall, its not really my scene, but it was fun and aside from the few incidents, it could be a lot of fun with a group of bros or as we saw a bachelorette party (so, you get the idea of what my scene is not). read more

This is place is entertaining. I came here after work with a friend and we tried a few of their frozen adult beverages. They are only 5 each. My favorite was the lights out. It was delish. We had a bartender who helped us first and she was awesome super friendly, attentive, and making the best of a slow start. We were bummed that she moved to the floor but somehow she still kept an eye on us and made sure the other bartenders didn't forget about us. They also had trivia there and that was interesting. We played the one round and tied for third out of four teams. Lol the questions were hard for us haha. After that the trivia guy came over to talk to us and he was sweet as apple pie and really funny. He convinced us to stay and hear the karokee. That was a blast! Super fun to listen to. The only negative note was we got two apps. The chicken nachos and the onion rings. Don't bother. The onion rings weren't very salty and came with no sort of dipping sauce. The "chicken" nachos had very VERY little chicken and wasn't that good. Not sure how that's possible but when I go back I won't order the food. My husband loves karaoke, so we headed to Boston to celebrate his 30th birthday and check out the karaoke scene there. We ended up spending our entire night here and everyone had a great time! We arrived before 10pm and avoided paying the cover. We were able to hang out on the main level and sing karaoke, and also check out the Top 40s club upstairs. Not the cleanest place- the bathrooms are nasty. But the drinks are reasonable and the vibes are good! Reminds me of my favorite dive at home. We'll definitely be back. read more

I came to leave a positive review and was surprised to see such a nasty one from "Chad C." I don't agree at all with that guy's assessment. The wild rover delivers what you'd expect from a dive bar in Boston, but I figure if you go with a good attitude and friends it can be a blast. My crew esp liked the live music and were pleasantly surprised that the performer randy vera actually seemed to know how to play the guitar. (I've heard a lot of gravelly voiced hipster three chord wonders in Boston bars. This guy isn't one of them. I thought he was great.) Would give zero stars if I could. Came here for the first time as a part of a bar crawl where our cover fee was supposed to be waived until 2AM. Spoke to the bouncer and he said the cutoff was actually at 10PM so we missed it. It was a busy night so we decided to just pay the $20 cover (the same cost as the crawl) so we wouldn't hold up the line. Once we got in we double checked the website for the crawl and saw that our fee was in fact supposed to be waived until 2PM, so we decided to speak with the manager. The manager basically told us too bad and then tried to make us to pay an additional $20 cover (we had to go back to the entrance to speak with her, and since they didn't give out stamps or anything to indicate you already paid they tried to charge us twice). They eventually let us in, and the first bartender we went to was drunk. She handed my card back to a different person, and when I reached across the bar to grab it she snatched it up and threw it down in front of me with so much attitude. Couldn't have left her a tip even if I wanted to because she gave me the customer copy of the receipt. We weren't able to get any of the drink deals that were advertised as a part of the bar crawl either. Went here for the first time for a friend's birthday, ended up experiencing one of the most ridiculous ID policies that are blatantly xenophobic and racist. My entire group was international students and POC. Showed my VALID passport, and the bouncer asked for a US Visa. First of all, even at the airport they don't ask for this. Clearly these bouncers don't have an understanding of immigration in the US, and how passport is literally the most valid ID issued by the GOVERNMENT. They didn't take my passport bc my US Visa is on my old passport (bear in mind, the visa is something you can't just pick and stick to a new passport). Half of my friends have MASS ID issued by the government, and they said "we don't take Mass ID." If I was some white chick holding a mass ID, I wonder if he'd say the same thing and questioned that they're not valid. Truth is we were all brown and the bouncer was just giving us a hard time over whether our IDs were real or not. And he had the audacity to sulk being like "how do you feel if someone calls you racist to your face??". Well sir, you were and now you lost business. Never have I been to a place that doesn't take PASSPORTS or STATE ID. Don't go here if you're not some white Bostonians or you seem to be "illegal" in their eyes LOL read more

We walked across Boston only to find that they only accept liquor cards (?) and drivers licenses. They will turn you away if you have a state issued identification card. Makes absolutely no sense. Management did NOT handle the situation well, belittling me on the way in for not having a driver's license. Bartenders and waitstaff were cool tho! Karaoke DJ was wonderful. So I came to Wild Rover for a school event. When I arrived at Wild Rover I was for the most part sober, within the first 30 minutes I was informed by one of my friends that I had been cut off for reasons that were as mystifying to me as they were to my friends and classmates. When I politely and calmly asked the bartender why I had been cut off she became incredibly hostile and threatening towards me, and refused to answer the question. I've honestly never been treated so poorly in any service oriented business as I have been here, and I could not recommend this place any less. In the future I'll be advising my classmates and other students to not chose this place as a venue for any sort of event. Howl at the Moon is a far superior option in my experience. read more

Was out with friends the other night and this bar blocked the entrance of one of them because she only had a state ID. You only take drivers licenses? As someone in the industry I find this to be madness. More than half the population of Boston doesn't drive. Or is it the only people you want drinking are ones that drive home after?.
