This place is amazing. The protein selection is unparalleled. Lets get a few things out of the way:
- This is not a one-stop shop supermarket. Its a specialty market geared toward people want access to unique, quality proteins (meats, poultry, and fish).
- You probably shouldn't go here the day of a dinner party. This suits people best who either want to store several meals worth of proteins in your freezer, or who can plan a couple days in advance to properly thaw.
- Most importantly, I'd venture to say that much of the meat, fish and poultry you buy at a typical grocery store are previously frozen and then thawed for sale. Not all, but you most likely purchase previously frozen proteins without realizing it. You also eat previously frozen proteins at restaurants. It makes sense, as it allows distributors to keep the quality of the product intact via transit. There are probably other reasons as well. Having purchased a large portion of a cow from a local farm, pre-frozen, I can tell you that pre-frozen foods don't inhibit your ability cook a quality meal. I'd rather slow thaw in my fridge over a couple days then buy it thawed by a market.
I read a comment about how the selection is "nothing you can't get at a local market." Really? Last I checked, my market didn't sell 8+ types of Ribeyes including A5 Wagyu, uncommon cuts like Florentine and Picanha, Pheasant and Quail, whole suckling pig, Turbot, etc.
If you enjoy cooking, there are some great, unique options here and you won't be disappointed. The prices are very reasonable in my opinion. read more
