Beavertown Brewery - Taps

Since its launch in 2014, the Beavertown Brewery taproom has drawn pilgrimages of craft beer…read moredrinkers to Tottenham Hale. As the brewery became more obsequious and recognised across the city, the popularity of the taproom has proportionally increased- currently only open to the public on Saturdays, it's customary to expect queues: the ten taps at the bar will always have the freshest beers going, with the core range and seasonals represented in good measure. The beer list is available in advance online and special releases will be promoted on social media. There are fridges where bottles can be purchased and customers can imbibe onsite. Outside, there's a small can bar of the core range, where Neck Oil and Gamma Ray can be sourced without a lengthy wait. There are pita crisps available at the bars and always a pop-up food vendor purveying hot dishes to counterbalance the drinking session- on a recent visit, we had scrumptious burgers from Squid Kitchen paired with some patatas bravas. When the sun is shining, there's plenty of seating outdoors in the form of communal wooden tables, chairs made from pallates and even reject diner plastic chairs and table sets. Inside, there's no seating, but clusters of people gather- prudently within a eyeshot from the bar. There's also the thrill of supping a beer in the brewery itself, under the shadow of the mammoth fermenter tanks. The atmosphere is always convivial, mostly older Millennials and discerning types- but there's always a contingency of drinkers who are content to graze on their Gamma Ray without sampling some of the smaller batch offerings. The Beavertown staff are always welcoming and enthusiastic- they'll talk you through the selection on tap and will make recommendations. They're run off their feet as the queue snakes around the bar without respite from the moment that the doors open, but maintain a steady pace and sense of humour. While it's patently obvious that the popularity of the brewery and their beer has been unprecedented over the past two years and that the taproom can't sustain the swelling crowds for much longer, it's worth experiencing before the next incarnation of the brewery bar is announced. There's a lot of talk about a designated pub or expansion within the confines of the industrial yard, but nothing has been officially announced. In the meantime, it's worth eking out to Tottenham Hale to drink some great beer from the source- just make sure you try a bit of everything and that you get down there early.

I can only imagine the amazing atmosphere here during a game. I ordered the Bones lager and hubby got Neck oil. We enjoyed both on their patio behind the building. Neck oil was on tap in many pubs we visited, so it's obviously a very popular beer in London. I like all the colorful art in the taproom and on their glasses as well!

To my Yelp friend Dean C - Found this great UK brewery. Sorry, but it is kinda far away from the…read moredowntown tourist London area. But it is worth it since it is a "brewery mall." Quality/Quantity - Small simple menu done very well. Including the beer, good beer! My self made flight was good. I was worried that I ordered too many... All my beers were good. Can I suggest adding flights to your menu? Guest beers are also offered, see picture. Kegged wines, wines on tap. Pizza was great, sorry if I offended the "chef" by asking for parmesan cheese. I guess extra parmesan cheese is an Italian thing, not a UK thing...? We ordered the sweet potato, stilton & walnut pizza. Gluten free and vegan options are also available. Atmosphere - Amazing space, huge, indoor/outdoor, two stories, etc. Also outdoor on the river. Lounge area, picnic tables, "pallet" benches, barrel tables, etc. Semi open kitchen, see picture. Good people watching space. You can walk to the other breweries if you want to try more. Plenty of clean bathrooms on both floors. Also thanks for the outside/separate sinks in the upstairs restrooms. Dog friendly. Monthly events. DJ's on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Service - Menus and prices clear and plentiful. Hit and miss, but that's okay because I am drinking good beer and fairly easy going. Cool inclusive culture, see picture. Reservations available for groups of 4 or more. Price - 24 pounds + tip. Owner Comment - FYI, your website link on Yelp does not work for me...? But I can find it via Google.

I settled on the Kashmiri dal and whilst I was skeptical the bartender assured me it was delicious. And she was spot on although deeming it pizza is a misnomer: it's more of a crispy flatbread. Anyway the flavours were delicious!!! I was really skeptical of how the dal, banana slices and chili flakes would all go together but it was spicy, fragrant and tough to not eat all in one go (got it for takeaway). Really cool space on the canal as well with lots of seating indoors and a bit more limited outdoors. Almost right across from the overground. Plus dog-friendly!!

Hackney Brewery - Brewery Tours for London Beer Week 2015.

Hackney Brewery

The Hackney Brewery recently threw open its doors for free tours during London Beer Week. The…read morebrewery grew out of the passion and hobby of two beer enthusiasts and they have struggled to keep up with demand ever since. They even have the distinction of being the oldest brewery in East London- having registered their company only days before local favourites London Fields and Beavertown Brewery- but, unlike their counterparts, they have wittingly retained a low profile. This might not be for long, however. It is evident that the owners are aware of the brewery's enormous potential, but they are cautious about how to approach their success in a sustainable way. Peter Hills, one of the two founders, gave us the (exceedingly) brief tour of the premises; it consisted of antiquated kit, the smallest mash tun you'll ever see in a commercial brewery and a makeshift office environment that is reminiscent of a student dorm. There's a lot of charm here, however, and the lingering sense that Hackney will implode if they don't throw their hat into the craft beer race soon. This is because their beer is good. With a small set-up, you can guarantee that every batch is put through the rigours of quality control that just don't exist with larger scale systems. Each member of staff emanates devotion and love for their product. Hackney shouted a third pint for everyone on the tour and I sampled their raspberry wheat- a crisp, creamy smooth beer with a lovely aroma: a perfect summer session beer that appealed to my palate. The mosaic was heralded as the staff favourite and also delivered with a mild hoppy taste and clean finish. Hackney beer can currently be found in some local East London establishments (including our local Wetherspoon's, but it is always out), but once the owners fully commit themselves to getting the word out, you'll undoubtedly be seeing their beers in pubs across London. In the meanwhile, if you get the chance- jump at the opportunity to tour the brewery and try their beers yourself. This might just be the best underground craft beer in East London- for now.
