Great shop, the people working there were very pleasant and welcoming. Loved the garden and the various focal points. And the shop had a great selection of beautifully crafted items for sale.

I'd give 10 stars if possible! I wish I'd discovered Barbi years ago. She is a true gem and an…read moreincredible wealth of knowledge that she freely shares. Happy and healthy birds and their families is her goal, and she achieves it with excellence! Words can't express all the hard work, time, passion, and love she has put into her wonderful birds and also into supporting and educating their families. Barbi's Bird House is the place to go for a new bird (and for toys and other supplies)! My family brought home our precious baby budgie, Bondi, from Barbi just over a month ago. What a joy the whole experience has been, from initially contacting Barbi, to multiple text and phone conversations leading up to our appointment. I've had 4 budgies over the years so am not a newbie, but I always want to keep learning how to care for them better. I've gotten great new information and tips from Barbi. She has all the food, toys, and supplies you could need, and is available for questions anytime. She's passionate about bird health and diet and will support you in giving your birds the best life possible. She takes the time to make sure you and your new bird are the right match for each other and you're fully prepared before heading home. And if you order toys from her, she knows exactly which ones your bird will love. You're not just buying a bird from Barbi; you're gaining new friends in her and her husband Roar. They are so kind and welcoming, you will feel like part of their family. As someone who adores budgies and feels they often don't get nearly the care and appreciation they deserve, I am so grateful to Barbi. Finding anyone who breeds them has been difficult, let alone someone who will put in the time and effort to hand-feed them. It's been evident how this pays off in greatly reducing stress and speeding up adjustment to a new home. Right away, Bondi was already months ahead of a pet store budgie in being more used to and positive about people and not getting scared of new things. Knowing that not all budgies receive very good care, I find that getting to see what Barbi puts into them is a balm to the spirit. Thank you, Barbi!

Lots of moths flying around from the food, though. We continued to purchase supplies and food from Apollo's, but often noticed that the owner was, at best, disinterested. The whole shop is just sort of slapdash, and it always seemed that any questions were met with a healthy dose of apathy. Recently, we scheduled a week in advance to board our conure for a long weekend while we were out of town. We arrived to drop our conure off at 10am right when the store was supposed to open. SUPPOSED to open. After 45 minutes of sitting in the parking lot, repeatedly calling, and staring at the shuttered windows and locked door, we left and made other last minute arrangements, though we were still an hour late getting to the airport. Once we finally got in touch with the store to cancel the boarding reservation, we were met with an aloof apology and a muttered excuse about being 'stuck in traffic' with no offer to make it right. We had also planned to groom our bird during his stay. Since the stay didn't work out, we asked if we could bring him in the following Monday for nails and a wing-clipping. Nope. Again, an apathetic reply that grooming could only be done on Saturdays, and click went the phone. Today, we decided to try Wings of the World in Bothell for a grooming. What a gem of a store. Not only was grooming complimentary, but we learned more about our bird in 20 minutes there than we did from multiple visits to Apollo's. The shop and staff were amazing, eager to help, and genuinely love all things bird-related. Good luck to you, Apollo's. We won't darken your door again.

I found the birds living here to be in great condition. The store itself is a bit messy, but it looks like the owner is working on it. The Mother and daughter that own/work here are very nice and knowledgeable about everything bird. Tips: They only charge 5 dollars for small birds and 15 for large birds when doing nails, beak and wing trims....way cheaper than the vet and she does a great job. The food and toys are priced fairly and so are the birds for sale. They prefer cash and will give a discount if you use cash instead of debit/credit cards. Beware! If you don't have previous bird experience...Don't touch the birds! The owner told me which birds were "nice" and the first time I was in there I got bit by a "baby" cockatoo...he was NOT NICE! The second time I was told a goffin cockatoo was nice (he looked perfectly sweet) and the little turd jumped on my head, laughed and proceeded to attack me. The owner stood 10 feet away and either chose to ignore the fact that I was fighting for my head back or she was just oblivious to the attack that was happening right in front of her. I managed to up the viscous little attacker and get him back on his cage, but I left with my hair all disarray and my fingers bleeding. Lesson learned!

Meg and Whidbey Birds came up and were very close to us. Meg spoke to us via messenger to set up what we wanted and where to meet. I was hoping to come to the aviary to make sure I saw a healthy flock of breeding birds. Unfortunately she wants to keep her home private, which I can understand too. So we met in a parking lot and had a very quick transaction. I would have preferred to be able to ask more questions due to us bringing home a baby still on formula. But Meg said she would email us all the information we needed to know. When we arrived home and read through all her instructions, we followed them to a T. We also followed her advice of holding our little guy softly in a towel for 24hrs so he bonded to us when he wasn't in his heated tub. He was so scared and this bonding time of 24hrs made all the difference. From then on, he has been attached like Velcro. Meg also shared in her instructions on how he would go through a month of nipping and being sassy.....I'm so thankful that she walked us through that time...had we not known and just given up on holding him, I doubt we would have the incredible boy we have now, almost four years later. Our boy has almost half a million subscribers on TikTok and I always refer them to Meg. But it's really important you follow her directions exactly and see an avian veterinarian frequently to make sure no health issues arrive.

Meg requested to meet at a park for the exchange, which i thought was a little unusual but assumed it may have been because Meg also breeds dogs and possibly had pregnant animals at home that she did not want people around. When Meg arrived she handed over the sun cheek conure in an ant infested cat carrier. I commented on the ants and Meg responded by saying "It's okay, the bird will eat the bugs." (NASTY) i immediately went to the feed store and asked a worker for a clean box because it was so disgusting. After doing some research it is illegal to keep birds and insects together like this and any professional breeder would know this. At first the bird seemed fine. However by Friday we noticed he was sitting at the bottom of the cage and acting sleepy. By Saturday afternoon, he had passed away. I contacted Meg right away to let her know what had happened. She claimed the bird probably got too cold, but that simply does not make sense. We have another bird living in the same room, our living room and the house was warm the entire time. Meg then offered us another bird free of charge in a few weeks. We explained that if Meg had recommended additional care measures, such as a heating pad and an aquarium setup, we would have done so immediately. Meg had specifically stated this bird was four months old and fully weaned but now im being told it looked closer to 6 weeks old. This week, I decided to look further into this breeder and found numerous concerning Yelp reviews and posts from others describing very similar experiences involving sick birds or birds that were not fully weaned and died shortly after purchase. We are honestly disgusted and heartbroken that my we had to go through this experience. A few days after he passed, I texted Meg and stated that i would prefer a refund of the $600 rather than receiving another bird. I never received a response. I genuinely do not understand how someone with such a concerning reputation is still allowed to continue selling animals. I have spoken to multiple bird breeders in the washington state area and they have all said they have heard the same horror stories from this place. One told me at least once a month they have someone come in with story of sick birds dieing after purchase. Be extremely cautious dealing with this place because the odds of bring a sick or unweened bird home is extremely high.

We were shopping around for a new larger cage for our African Grey. Called before heading over to make sure they had something in the size range we were looking for. We were told they did so we headed on over. The store itself was clean and the layout made it easy to look around. I thought the prices seemed reasonable. I think it's important to support a local business and if we lived closer we'd probably shop here regularly. The guy working behind the desk asked if he could help us, we told him we were the ones who called about the cage. He asked another young man who had a super cute Sun Conure to check on the sizes they had in stock. While we waited we checked out stuff in the store. Lots of birds as well as all the toys and perch accessories you could want. We wanted a pretty large cage and they did have a size that would work for us. They were super helpful with the whole process and gave my husband some tips on setting it up. We left with a new cage and a few accessories for it. Got it set up pretty easily when we got home. Us and our Grey are very happy with everything. We definitely recommend this store and will be back when we are in the area again.

I was researching species and decided to put my name on several watch/wait lists in two states. BF and I visited DPP a couple of times and I put my name on their list for a Blue-headed Pionus. Much to my surprise they called me 4onths ago saying a breeder had a hatched clutch and did I still want one. Yes!! It took about 3 weeks for my new baby to get shipped to DPP. Rick took pictures and sent them to me and I visited the first time the next day. My hatchling was so ulgy-cute and I was shown how they hand feed the babies. I visited 6 or so times during the hand feeding and natural weaning process. It took around 2 months for my bird to wean and become self-sufficient with food and water. DPP really care about the birds they sell!! They will not sell a bird upon demand the first time someone comes to the store. They require several visits and a deposit prior to purchase. They do not clip wings or force-wean babies. The entire staff was incredible. Allison has a wealth of good information!! I didn't have one negative experience with any staff. My bird has been home just over a week and she's incredible. She got so much socialization opportunities at the store almost nothing fazes her or scared her. She is very gentle with everyone and even my 7 year old son can handle her without being bitten or fearful. We are all in love with her chill nature. Thank you DPP! I never knew I could have such an incredible experience buying a new family member. You guys are #1!!!

The first time we came here, the owner introduced herself, and my wife and her chatted for a while. In the conversation, my wife mentioned that the K9 with her was her service dog due to her PTSD related to her service in the Navy. The owner mentioned that they had a veteran's discount, and so my wife was stoked on that as an option. We have been coming here for a few months, and during that time, we have received the 5% discount up to today [04 March 2025]. We came to get our 2 bags of K9 food and our bag of cat food and was told by the man behind the counter that only active service members are going to receive the 5% discount. My wife nor I have heard of only active service members receiving a discount at any store. The man was kind in regards to not giving us the discount and stated that it was something which had been in effect for quite some time so he seemed as confused about our situation as we were. If it weren't for the fact that this place is one of the few places that sell the brand Prey for dog food we'd stop coming here because we get a veteran's discount everywhere else we have shopped for dog food. I am sad that a local place, which is part of a close community of Port Townsend, doesn't offer a discount to those who have served for our country in the military along with active members. So if you are expecting to receive a veteran's discount (or have in the past), then this is a headsup that the discount doesn't apply. They are pleasant enough here and have a great variety of food options for dogs and cats. If we hadn't received mixed messages regarding getting a veteran's discount, then I wouldn't have taken the time to write this review with a 2 star rating. If they decide to accommodate veteran's along with active members then I will be happy to give this place a 5 star rating. Thank you for your time in reading this review. *Revision Renee reached out to me today [05 March 2025] and discussed the situation that occurred yesterday at Pet Town. It was refreshing to have a professional, relaxed and transparent conversation with someone who was quick to rectify the situation as described up above which had occurred. She let me know that she had clarified with all of the staff that works here to make sure that the 5% discount applies to military members, both active and veterans alike and for senior citizens. My wife and I will continue to come here for our purchases of food that we get for our furry family. The service has always been welcoming and professional from the beginning. I have also chosen to leave my original review above so that those who read my review will be able to see that this establishment is willing to go the extra mile for those who come to shop here and that this store is a wonderful addition to the local community. Thank you Renee and crew for continuing to shine and add to the community of Port Townsend in a positive way.
