Definitely recommend! This place is truly a fun place to go to whether it's for a date night, work outing or hanging out! If you've not ever gone to a place like this, you'll have to watch a very short video and sign a waiver. Once that's done, the instructor will go over the rules again, how to hold the axe and walk you through it when you're ready to throw. Before you know, you'll be a pro at axe throwing! Bar: There is a bar in the middle with a good amount of options of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Arcade: the wall opposite to the wild axe lanes is a wall of pinball machines. I didn't get a chance to play, but I think it's so cool to see. Next to the bar were more arcade games and a machine to get your arcade card filled or refilled. Facility & Staff: The whole place was clean, presentable and inviting. The staff were friendly and helpful! Parking: there is plenty of parking since this establishment is located in a large lot. Recommendation: GO! It's worth the fun! read more

My husband and I went today for our anniversary. We picked 4:30, so it was a slow-only one either party next to us. Our axe master (and I am so sorry I don't remember his name...) was wonderful. He explains things well and gave tips to each of us individually. He made things fun and we had a great time. We will definitely be back! read more

Wild Axe provided a really fun experience for me, my boyfriend, my brother, and my sister-in-law on Thanksgiving weekend. I'd been axe throwing in Grand Rapids before, but this place was way better! We made a reservation for a one hour time slot and arrived just before. There's a waiver to sign and then you write a nametag where the only rule is that it can't be your own name. They have some lists of names for inspiration so I went with "Axel Rose" - sort of a silly thing but gets you into a fun mindframe. I'm not sure how many people can be on each lane, but the lane next to us seemed to have a whole family, so it'd be a good activity for a group. Every couple of lanes has an axe master who goes through the rules and explains the technique. Everyone gets to throw a few practice rounds and then they start the activities. There were about four different games including cricket, 21, and a fun one involving a balloon. Then we got to throw two axes at once as well as chuck a big axe! It was super fun and I really liked that they guided you through the activities rather than just leaving you alone to just throw. The facility is clean and bright and looks inviting. There's a private area for events (there was a birthday party going on while we were there), a big target for photo ops, and a bar! The bar is a nice touch. The hour went super quickly and we had a blast. I would definitely recommend this activity to anyone looking for something a little different. read more

Great staff, Delicious drinks, Awesome Decorations! This place has more than just Axe throwing! They have a cool bar with excellent signature drinks with a great selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages! In addition to that there are 15+ unique highly themed pinball machines from properties like Star Wars, marvel, Jurassic Park, Alien, Iron Maiden, and others! The axe throwing is second to none with plenty of targets with great upkeep and really friendly and knowledgeable instructors! The owner is also their fairly often and is a very nice guy! Easily one of my favorite business in Dayton/Ohio and one I definitely recommend for a couple hours of fun on a weekend night or some drinks and a blast on the weekend! read more

My first axe throwing event. Five of us decided to go to this location. One of us had gone to a Cincinnati axe throwing facility. Bullseye was the person who was facilitating our game along with others. When we went up to the line and weren't doing so well, he came up to "help" us. However, he came off as arrogant and condescending. As he walked behind the throwers, he would shake his head 'no' like he was disgusted at times for others to see. This was noticed by other people also. The person who went to Cincinnati said the staff was much nicer and more helpful. For the almost $30 per person price for an hour, we will find somewhere where we came out feeling like we had fun. read more

In a word this place is Fun. The management of this place certainly exudes personality by implementing fun games within axe throwing by making you hit targets, weighted axes, throwing two axes at once and popping balloon on the target board. The host who guides you are likely to roast youre not thin skinned and can take a joke. And full of corny dad jokes. Overall a really fun place to hangout and the vibe of the place is phenomenal. Definitely worth your time and money to check it out. read more

This plase is awesome. I rented out the party area for a surprise party. The area was huge, plenty of space for all 20+ people to hang out, eat pizza, drink, and throw some axes. It was a blast. We played several rounds of games and everyone was having fun. I would come back again and again. Worth it! read more

I want to start by saying this started out as a fun family birthday outing for yours truly... The first issue that needs pointing out is that patrons must first digitally sign waivers on iPads walking inside the facility (So that any possible injuries sustained are fully your responsibility). Well that makes sense, except when none of the employees are validating you actually signed it. I wrote my name as Rabbit Sinbad who is 26, has a signature that just looks like a giant X, and is no relation to the actual me. That means if I chopped off a finger, arm, or nipple, I could sue them for sooooo much money because I technically never signed a waiver and no one had any idea. Even my nonexistent infant child knows better. The main reason I'm writing this is because they stuck us in the worst lane with the shittiest throwing/target board and took the pictures to prove it. The first one is ours, the remaining 8 is the rest of them. We even told our "Instructor" that our board was in horrible condition, but she just said "You actually want that because the ax will stick easier." A few of us have backgrounds in engineering, math, and/or physics and knew this girl had no idea what she was talking about. Our axes would some times stick in for a second, fall out, then take another chunk of wood out with it. I found her attitude to be abrasive and not someone that needs to be around people for a living. If our board was the ideal board, why out of 9 total boards was ours the only proper one??? I sure feel bad about the other paying customers there that were able to actually see their scores and enjoy all the different games, instead of making a pile of splinters like us. read more

This was a great day!!! With the help of Axe the Ripper, I landed not one but two axes at the same time! Thanks dude you are wonderful!!! Axe throwing is better than bowling, tennis, gardening and even sex!! Well, not sex, but it's up.there(that's what she said). Thanks everybody!! read more

Definitely a good time! Don't be afraid of the price point, if you go with a good group of friends it'll be fun :)

Did not care for the league format. Signed up for a league but was not what I expected. My friend and I thought we'd be playing together but that was not the case. We decided we didn't want to do this. He called and was told we'd get our money back. Then got a call we would not t be refunded. Terrible business practice. I thought we were getting our money back, went on a trip and missed 2 weeks, didn't matter because We did not enjoy it. Just want my refund. read more

Overall a fun activity. The guide who stayed with us was very personable and fun. I was disappointed the pinball machines were extra money to play since the one hour axe throwing time was $30 a person. Our lane had standing water at the target (axe ended up landing there if it did not stick). Every time we picked up the axe our hangs got wet and the handle was wet. There were not any paper towels or way to clean your hands at your target lane. read more

The two of us decided to come here for a fun outing on a weekend. We'd both never been axe throwing but had always wanted to try it out! It wasn't as frightening as I thought it would be because they have good safety measures in place. There are 6 throwers per lane and if your lane isn't full, they'll pair you up with other people to get up to 6. So I'd recommend coming in a big group if you can so that you'll be throwing with people you know! There's one instructor per lane. They start you off with some practice throws, but then move onto some activities (first to get to 21 points, hit a balloon you've pinned up, throw with two axes at once, competitions between lanes, etc.) It was a lot of fun, but I hate competitions (especially at things I'm still trying to learn or just have fun!) so I really wish they offered lanes where you can practice your throws, without any competitions or people counting points. read more

This place was AMAZING!!! My husband and I are both little people! Went here for a fun date night! Couldn't have had a better time here! Neither one of us had been axe throwing and Axel made it so much fun for the both of us. I've been axe throwing a number of times, and it's always great. This time was even better because we had a great coach with Matt! My whole team all threw better because he was incredibly helpful. So, about 2 years ago, Wild Axe Throwing opened up the opportunity to join an axe-throwing league; I joined immediately and have thrown from their very first league - until this past Tuesday night. I always looked immensely forward to my league nights. The challenges, the camaraderie, and the laughs kept me coming back for every single season. I developed a deep love for this sport and for the people I was not only throwing with, but also the folks who were running leagues and working the bar. This sport, league, and group got me through a number of rough times in my life and I am grateful for it. Over the last few leagues, things started to change. Among other things, LOTS of staffing changes included, someone decided it would be best to split up groups because we were "too cliquey". So, it didn't matter who you came with; they would tell us we didn't get to choose who we threw with. Keep in mind - this is a fun league, a beer league, and not a WATL-sanctioned league. So this makes no logistical sense. People who were showing up with dates or friends? Too bad. "Get here sooner next time." And when we started to push back, since we are paying to play, we were told "it's our league, not yours, and you don't have to come back - we will just replace you with other customers". Classy, right? Luckily, someone saw reason and this season we managed to still be "allowed" to throw together. Until tournament night this past week, that is, where we were again told (and RIGHT before the tournament began) "this is our league, not yours, and if you don't like how we do things, don't come back." Not a great way to start a fun night, right? Let me preface what I say next by sharing that I have NEVER had ANY issue with the staff there (I, in fact, count some of them amongst my good friends) beyond telling them in no uncertain terms that there was ONE person in league that I WOULD NOT share a lane with, because I didn't like anything about him or the way he spoke to me and about me, and he made me very uncomfortable, and generally had an intense dislike for him. I. made no secret of it. I got along pretty well with everyone else who threw and all of the people who work there just fine - or so I thought. Most of us weren't throwing our best and by the time it was done, lots of people were cranky and I laughingly commented "there are a lot of salty bitches here tonight", referring to MYSELF and the other throwers who were frustrated. I paid my bill, and was walking out of the door when I was stopped by a member of staff who I've MAYBE met... three times total? - and he demanded I explain myself and who I was talking about "salty people". I was taken aback - and so I told him I was talking about those of us throwing who were frustrated with our tournament performances. He proceeded to give me a two-minute lecture about how "this is our place, and not yours, and we don't have to accept your negativity no matter who it was referring to". First of all, if it didn't matter, why ask? Second of all - last I checked, axe throwing attracts a certain variety of personalities, and being strongly competitive and phrasing like "salty bitches" is kind of part of the package. So NOW my group is actively being monitored for what we can and cannot say. He then decided to tell me that if I had a problem with it, I was "welcome to not come back". And I have a witness who heard ALL of this. Again, let me point out - I have been with them since their first league. I have spent an insane amount of money there. I have brought them new throwers. I have supported them and advertised for them - literally. I'm in their damn video ad. I have NEVER had a run-in with ANY of the staff or other throwers beyond the one I refused to throw with. No one had issue with ME until I started throwing with a specific group of people; and now I'm on the radar of "bad kids" (there are more stories, but they are not mine to tell). I am not any more special or important than anyone else; but I am loyal until I have reason not to be. Further, one of the other members (who, by the way, was reportedly cornered by THREE staff members while I was being cornered by the other) was told that we were the reason the leagues were failing. And that they'd be fine if none of us came back, because they would just replace us with new customers. While this MAY be the case - dismissing roughly half of your existing league is not only a really dumb business decision, it's also a shitty way to treat loyal customers. To be approached in such an aggressive manner is unacceptable, to say the least, and dangerous, to say the most. Sure, you can "welcome" us to not come back. After the way I was spoken to - I wouldn't come back anyway. I don't know if it's management, ownership, or just personality conflicts, but to treat someone like I was treated on Tuesday is asinine and it's no wonder "the business is in trouble". read more

I want to share a little story. Last year, I had the amazing opportunity to work as a throwing coach at Urban Axes Austin, which was my introduction to the sport and to the axe throwing community. I remember thinking that an axe throwing venue would be a big hit in my second hometown of Dayton, Ohio. I have since relocated to Dayton. Fast forward to March of this year... I heard about the imminent opening of Dayton's first axe place, Wild Axe Throwing. I immediately reached out to contact them about potential employment as a coach. They responded that they would let me know as soon as they were hiring. On May 21, they posted their first calls for axemasters on Facebook. That same day I received a call inviting me in for an interview. I went in that Friday, eager and excited about the opportunity. It was a group "interview", wherein two other candidates (without axe throwing experience) and myself were instructed on the various aspects of the position and a general overview of operations. It wasn't a traditional interview, in that we weren't interviewed. It felt like an orientation, which led me to believe that my chances were pretty good. The co-owner Daniel said that we should expect a call back the next week. I didn't hear back, so the week after that week, I gave them a call to check on the status. They didn't return my call. Throughout the week, I called a couple more times, sent an email, and sent a message through Facebook. Finally, he left me a terse voicemail stating that, "We don't have a position for you at this time. Best of luck." I was disappointed, deflated. I had been really excited about it, and I thought it was a perfect fit. Daniel didn't see it that way. I am suspicious that I was denied employment at Wild Axe Throwing because of my gender identity, which is a transgender female. You see, this isn't the first time I've encountered Daniel. He and his partner are serial entrepreneurs, and they have operated several businesses in the Dayton area, including an Escape Room. At one time, they operated a Party Bus, whose regular driver was to be out of town for an extended period of time. She referred me to them as a suitable substitute until she returned. I contacted them, they ran my license through their insurance, and it looked to be all set. I went out to meet Daniel and see the bus. He showed me around the bus, oriented me to its operation and the protocols of the business. Upon parting, he said he'd call me when there was an assignment. I never heard from him. At the time, I suspected that it was because, after meeting me, a real live transwoman, he was instantly convinced that I was unsuitable for the job. After the Wild Axe Throwing experience, my suspicion grew. Now I've heard (second hand) that someone close to him confirmed the fact that he is awful and transphobic. Since Ohio is an at-will-employment state, I have no recourse but to take the matter to the Court of Public Opinion. Also, they have blocked me from re-liking their Facebook page (I unliked it after my experience). This has been verified by checking through someone else's profile. I am asking you to consider boycotting Wild Axe Throwing to send a message that the axe throwing community is inclusive and supportive of everyone and that our family doesn't discriminate. Also, feel free to harass them on social media and in person. read more

Professor Axe was a blast!! I would come back and play with him again in the future. He kept us engaged the whole game.

I do not recommend this location for anyone who is concerned with the spread of Covid-19. While the website lists reasonable precautions, it is unfortunately the case that they are both misleading and not being taken seriously by the business. The FAQ offers a "private lane experience" as a major change. This combined with the mention of "the room is completely sanitized" would lead you to believe that you are isolated and that your contact with other attendees is minimized. However, it would take quite a leap of the imagination to call what is offered "private" or even a "room". Look at the pictures taken pre-covid and add a slender, slightly higher than head height wall between each touching lane (and only HALF of the space between lanes, at that) and you will have a perfect picture of your "private" experience. The owner appears to be playing some kind of word game with claiming all lanes are '6 feet apart'. The lanes are arranged in pairs where, yes, there is 6 feet between each pair, but that also means every lane is touching one other lane directly (minus the few inches wide that the walls are, which I will again say do not cover the length of the lane). The lanes are 6 feet wide and touching, and the maximum group sizes allowed make it possible for this entire width to be occupied (which was indeed the case with at least one party when we were there). So unless the adjacent lane is occupied by persons who are infinitesimally small and stay on the far edge, the 6 feet separation distance is being violated. The FAQ states "employees always wear masks". Even this is a lie, as my post-visit phone conversation revealed they only require masks when "interacting with guests" away from the counter. During our short 10 minute stay there wasn't a single mask on any employee, whether they were behind the counter or walking amongst the guests, so regardless of the actual policy it is not being followed. At no point were the multiple groups who walked in after us without masks told to put one on before getting to their lane, as well. The person I spoke to on the phone essentially said "we ask people to wear a mask but if they won't we aren't going to refuse their business and tell them to leave". Pretty much no excuse for this, clearly $$$ is more important than safety. Also, there appears to be a disconnect between what is claimed to be a safe experience and what is minimally required by the law. The health department may make an exception for masks when drinking, but this does not mean that allowing guests to wander between their lanes and the serving area maskless is magically safe (the serving area is a mere few feet behind multiple lanes). Note this cool part of a response from the owner on my Google review (which also completely dismissed my observations of the completely maskless employees): ""You mention '"ask people to wear a mask but can't tell them to leave and some nonsense about they can't ask about medical conditions etc". It is illegal to ask someone what their medical condition is if they tell you they have one. I would never ask my staff to a) break the law or b) require obtaining personal information from our customers."" Guess what? You don't have to ask anybody about their medical conditions. You can simply tell them to either follow the policy or leave. You DO NOT have to risk the health and safety of other guests and employees because of a guest's medical conditions. The ADA requires only _reasonable_ accommodations, no person would find risking other peoples' health and safety reasonable. Any private business can ask anyone to leave for any non-discriminatory reason. The owner claims they take Covid very seriously, but the evidence does not add up. My opinion is that this business has done the bare minimum through their policies and modifications to get an OK from the health department, but then in practice does not care about the health or safety of guests or employees. read more

Had such a blast here. Took me awhile to get the hang of it but with the help of Sexy Birch, by the end of the night I was a SUPERSTAR at axe throwing. He was not just a fun guy to have around but was an EXCELLENT coach. Hung around after our throwing time was up to play some of the other bar games they had. My only complaint would be that it takes too long to get drinks from the bar. Maybe adding a second POS and bartender for busier times like Saturday nights would be a smart move. Maybe even consider having a server or something so you never have to leave you group at the lane to get more drinks. read more

Never treated so poorly and paid so much money in my life. The instructor "axe slayer" is the most unprofessional person I have ever seen. Everything that's been said in the reviews is correct and spot-on. My only objection is the price. My total was $64.03 for 2 people for (1) hour, plus $5.98 for 3 drinks, (No alcohol either), that pushed my total to $70.01,(they also don't take cash for the drinks). They should focus on creating more volume that would ease the cost to the customer. If the cost were say $30 per couple or $15 each it would be packed all the time. Word of mouth alone will pack the place, it is fun. The location is perfect as they are revitalizing the area with plenty of parking. Excellent access in and out from anywhere in the area. As stated it is fun, there's no food or snacks to purchase either, but you can bring your own. At $70 for (1) hour that is steep no matter who you are, that's a $!00 date easy with a meal. read more

My boyfriend and I went here for Valentines Day and it's a fun time, if you're doing it for the first time (which we were).
