Reasons why I love this market:…read more It's close to my house It's not on a Saturday morning Vendors are always so friendly It's never crowded Compared to other markets, there aren't many vendors. It works for me because it has the basics I always get: fresh herbs, eggs, tea & tamales. I'd love to see more produce but all in all, I think this is a really great little market.

Citadelle's Twilight Farmers Market started up after their summer break a few weeks back. They are…read moreopen Wednesday evenings from 4 - 7pm (until sometime in May). I went last week for the first time, and back again yesterday since it was so good. Most farmer's markets I've been to in Phoenix are generally lame. Mainly because there are 50% or more booths that are selling things like jewelry, knick-knacks or other things that to me belong more at a craft show than a farmer's market. This one, however, is almost all food (the only booth I noticed, other than information, that wasn't food was a table for one of the stores in the plaza). Two or three produce vendors, depending on the week, farm fresh eggs, grass-fed beef, bbq sauce, cider, granola, tamales, etc. etc. My favorite though is the dairy guys with the fresh cheese curds. You'd think you were eating a mouse the way these things squeek! Definitely fresher than the ones at Trader Joes. I am a huge fan of this farmer's market, and am sure all be back plenty of times over the fall/winter. My only minor complaint is that they advertise as Arizona's only farmer's market under the stars...since I pretty sure that the Downtown Market goes on Wednesday night and there is a farmer's market now at Norterra (sucked...see above about non food vendors), it's not even remotely true. 4.9 stars, rounded up!

I have always been fascinated by Charlie and Chocolate Factory and the amazement of what the…read morefactory looks like behind closed doors. For about twelve years, I have made Cerreta's my go-to place to find local candies and chocolates to give as gifts, treats for my wife, co-workers, and me, and an all-around fun experience. Whether it is Glendale's Chocolate Affaire or getting local-made chocolate for any holiday, I've always had fun visiting the store as opposed to just purchasing their chocolates in local grocery stores. When you first walk into the store, you see the individual wrapped chocolates all the way on the left with the boxed and bagged gift sets in the middle aisle of the store, and taffies and other candies on the right side of that. Immediately to the right when you arrive is the factory itself and the entrance to their tour. Similar to Willy Wonka's chocolate factory, Cerreta's also provides tours of their chocolate-making process with special treats at the end. This is great for groups, classes, or families and always makes for a fun photo op and a tasty experience. Cerreta's offers candy and nuts, popcorn, barks, brittles, and toffee, taffy, gifts, novelty items, sugar-free items, merchandise, and holiday items, which you can also purchase online. When you arrive, you are typically offered a complimentary chocolate. On each visit, I'll typically get some gifts for out of town friends and family, some chocolates for my wife and I to share, and some to bring into the office. My wife's favorite chocolates are dark and milk chocolate fudge cream, dark orange melt away, milk chocolate raspberry melt away, and milk chocolate mousse. In addition to this, I also like white orange dreams, dark chocolate strawberry cream, milk chocolate vanilla cream, s'mores, and French mint. In fact, it is French mint that Cerreta's is known for. I have a conference next week, and I got a two pound box of French mints as a silent auction item for a charity fundraiser at the conference. You can visit the Cerreta's website at https://cerreta.com. In addition to online purchases, you can learn about locations around the state where you can buy their candies and/or chocolates, how to use the GrubHub delivery service, educational VIP tours and other teacher resources, and details on signing up for their newsletter to get the latest updates on new products and sales. Cerreta Candy Company is a family-owned business founded more than 50 years ago by Jim Cerreta, Sr., who moved to Arizona from Ohio. There are now four generations of the candy business overseeing the production and operations of the chocolates and candy. They are open Monday through Saturday from 8 AM to 6 PM and located in the heart of downtown Glendale with plenty of parking outside. The service is wonderful! I've never seen an employee who wasn't smiling working there. If you haven't been to Cerreta's yet, you HAVE TO go and check it out. There are gifts for any occasion, and creative gifts at that. But make sure you get something special for yourself when you visit. Enjoy!!

They have tours and so many different candies to try and great gifts for the sweets lovers in your life. One thing that my minis are a fan of are the "make your own chocolate" so you can create custom treats. The chocolate is delicious and you get a decent selection of options to include for your custom treats. It's fun to do on a random day if you're trying to find things to do as a family or it'd be a cute day date tbh. Would I come back? Yes, always.

Then, I perused the many long aisles in this huge warehouse-like market. I saw aisles marked overhead for Chinese, Japanese, Filipino, Vietnamese, and Eastern European countries. They have lots of frozen foods in freezer cases, fresh produce, and baked goods. Fresh and frozen meats. And Lots of ethnic condiments! Lots of packaged snacks and candies, too. Checkout was quick.

I normally shop at 99 Ranch over in Chandler, and occasionally will go to Mekong or Lee Lee's and everyone once in awhile, I will venture to H Mart, so we are definitely covered here in the Valley with many options for Asian or international grocery. I was here yesterday and I always like to check out all their fresh made Korean dishes. They have seafood and kimchee pancakes and variety of ban chan available! Great! There is always fresh produce available, meats, seafood, freezer items. I like coming here to supplement what I can't find elsewhere. My purchases on this trip included: (1) ready-made spicy tuna onigiri ($3.99 each or 2/$7) - this was so-so, I can make a better one. (2) onigiri maker and silicone sushi roller - will be making my own rolls and onigiri at home. (3) burdock root seeds - going to figure out if we can grow these well out here (4) Nimboo pudina peanuts and chana (my favorite Indian snacks) (5) Asian sour lemon drink - Chanh Xi Muoi - this is my favorite with some seltzer on a hot summer day, so refreshing I found some unique items today and will be back again on my next trip out this way!
