The separation these guys use between houses is frustrating. They have plopped three houses 20 yards from me in each direction. Its frustrating because you NEVER see them do this with their rentals. Those are still a couple hundred yards apart. And from what I understand, they get really upset if you go close to one of them. There is PLENTY of space out here too. This place is bad. There is just no way around it. Attended with family for a fishing trip with day ice houses and cabin accommodations. Service - Mostly poor service to straight-up rude, both in the front office and out on the ice. Dirty looks when bringing fish in to be cleaned. One of the younger workers out on the ice blamed us for our holes freezing over in the shack first thing in the morning. He suggested it was our fault for not leaving the heat on a certain setting. There is no guidance on what temp to leave the heat on to avoid freeze over, and we weren't told this was our responsibility until after it happened. Further, the night before the holes froze over we were specifically told that people would be checking the house after we left for the night to do things like take out the trash. That would have been a great opportunity for them to set the heat to the proper setting. It was clear that no one visited the ice house after we left for the night because not only were the holes froze over, but they never took the day's trash. Front desk service was cold and at times just straight up rude. Accommodations/cleanliness - There are four walls, a roof, running water, and heat. Other than that, the place is borderline dumpy. I'll just write a few words here and let the pictures do the talking. Dirty. Mouse feces in beds and cookware cabinets. Broken handles. Stains. Holes in doors. Stained furniture. Destroyed/peeling walls. I understand it's been hard times the last few years, but what plagues this place is way beyond that. Avoid Wigwam Resort. If I could give this place no stars I would. We booked a cabin with fish house rental and it was a awful experience. The fish houses we broken down, dirty, furnaces went out in 3 of the house with the holes freezing up. When they sent someone to fix it, the guy didn't even have an auger to drill out the holes. When we got to our so called "cabin" it had bags of garbage sitting in front of the steps, mouse crap all over the kitchen, rotting ceilings falling down, mold growing in the bathrooms, beds and bedding from the early 1950s, furniture that looked like it was picked up from the dump, miswing the cushions and filthy. This is not a resort and should be condemned. Fishing was horrible and they put their crappy ice shacks in the dead sea. If you want to waste your money and possibly get fleas and bedbugs, this is your place! read more

I never write reviews but this one was worth putting something out there. A friend of mine made 10 of us reservations at Wigwam Resort on Lake of The Woods in Minnesota. We were all excited to go there as we are all long-time fisherman and ice fisherman. We have stayed at a lot of places over the years. Having not been to Lake Of The Woods yet fishing I was pretty excited to get there and experience the great fishing they have to offer. I had no idea what to expect with the Wigwam Resort my buddy booked, but was more focused on prepping for the trip. I will spare you all the details but lets just say they put us all in Cabin #10 behind the resort. The first warning sign should have been that we were greeted at the door by piles of garbage from the last group that stayed there. Ok...maybe they did not get the garbage yet, but gees....could you move it away from the front door. When we went in the place looks like it was staged by roadside free furniture. Lamps without light bulbs, furniture without cushions and the door to the main bedrooms handle was falling off. The ceiling in the bathroom is rotted and falling down, the floor by the toilet was "squishy" and the shower looked like the home of Cornovirus. Brutal. We have stayed over the years at some rough places and we are budget fisherman but this was $3000 split between us and its was a crap hole at its best. Further the ice houses they set us up in were plywood boxes with small wood benches. Both times we arrived at the ice shacks they were cold and holes frozen over. It was a crap show. The best though was when we were checking out. The girl at the desk took a call while checking us out and the person must have asked how far out you could drive on the lake and she said "seven miles max"....the the guy or girl must have asked "how's the fishing?" because her response was "How the hell should I know.....I work the front desk" The call ended and she said to us...."why do these damn people ask about fishing.....I have no idea.....I'm working the desk all day." That should give you a great idea of the service you can expect from Wigwam. Stay somewhere else....trust me! read more

Jan 20, 3 day/4 night Ice fishing trip with two other persons. Ice fishing was excellent as we caught plenty of fish to take home plus eating while there, not over our limit. Walleye and Sauger, we released at least 8 fish that were over the DNR size limit of 19 inches, personally won't keep them over 15 inches as small fillets fry up much better. Our guide for 2 days was Brian, very helpful and knows what to suggest in the house to make fishing better. He represents the Wigwam extremely well and he is the type of ambassador you want greeting and helping the customer. He was not obsequious but open if you wanted conversation. The fish house was a 4-man and it was the best ice hole configuration I have fished in, we sat without backs against the walls facing each other which made it very easy to help the other guy land a big fish, you could see without any turning around exactly what the other guy was doing. the benches we sat on were of the right height and they were covered in carpet so you didn't experience boat bu-t. The heater was more than adequate and you could fish in a t-shirt it was that warm at the low setting. We had our own fishing gear but we could have fished with the resorts gear and brought nothing, they supplied the bait and they were skimpy, I was never concerned we would run and i changed to fresh lively bait without thinking twice. My only suggestion for the house was on the 2nd day we had water on the ice and if a fish flipped off at the hole we ended up chasing it in the water, after the 2nd time doing this you are pretty well PO'd. Move the house right away under these conditions even if only a few feet. Our houses were cleaned from the last occupants which at some of the resorts they don't understand no one wants to fish in a garbage dump, especially in those where guys are chewing and smoking. I think some of the young guides don't understand the average older adult doesn't care to live like a slob. The cabin was great for 3 persons, a bedroom for each. I never recommend doubling up in a room, I quit sleeping with other guys 45 yrs ago when I left the US Army. The cabin was clean and spacious, the shower / bathroom OK. The towels as usual were on the small size with softness of brillo pads, but no worse than any other resort in the area. I think there must be a special supplier to find bath towels of this consistency. There was a double bed in each room, plus a single (can't imagine sleeping in that small a bed). The beds were well used but not unsleepable. If I was replacing them I'd look for a better grade and ones that will hold up to big guys as the average and not the exception. The kitchen was a big negative, no paper towels, the sink faucet was almost inoperable, electric burners on the range ran all too hot. The cooking utensils were one step up from Cro-Magnon period. The serving ware were the usual cheap stuff that the water had discolored and the fork tines were mostly bent so badly as be close to unusable. I suggest you eat at the lodge, the food was average but tasty and really no different than most of the resorts on the lake. You go here for fishing and not a 4-star hotel experience. I wouldn't expect the suggestions or deficiencies mentioned to be corrected, most of the sport fishing guys are pretty brutal on the accommodations and that forces owners to watch that they don't overspend on things that will be abused. I was unhappy at time of checkout to see they had recently begun charging a 3% up fee for purchases made on debit cards. I complained directly and the only response was the from an older women behind the desk who muttered under her breath " it was on the internet". Merchant/retailers absorb these fee's and calculate it into their overall operating expenses, they don't gouge the customer at time of ck out. When making a reservation they should say directly we will charge you a 3% fee if you use a debit card and at time of registration again "say" there is a 3% up charge for debit cards. Forget your little "notes" on the check in desk, do you really think I came here to read every note you hang in your office? I would and will fish here again; there is no place like Lake of the Woods, MN read more

Got to the wigwam on a Thursday to blowing winds. The lady at the desk was very rude to say that are sleepers where not ready. So right away I was mad. So we are in the lobby getting dirty looks from all the employees. Open the bar! No one offered us a thing. We had to beg them to open up for breakfast. So finally after waiting a couple hours we got to scatter all our stuff for the weekend of fishing in their clean shack and vehicles. We where limited for space. Getting out on the lake we could clearly agree that is was hard to get around. The fishing was average and you can tell the day shack was there for some time because of all the water. We got to our sleepers a few hours later and had no supplies. The sleepers floor was covered in a foot of ice and slush. I'm not a pro but when you auger a hole out in something your going to be staying in you have a cover over it. A slush bucket is what it's called I believe. The layout of the sleeper is horrible. 4 of the 8 holes are under the lower mattress. When you set the hook your pole hits the bed. We had to send half our group into get our stuff that was in 2 different spots on land. So keep in mind, I have my equipment in the fish cleaning shack, the sleeper shack, my truck. Stuff was scattered when I came back. Not all of it was there. I never did get my boots after making a couple requests on it. I think my request was bring everything in my truck the very next day. Their package includes with the sleeper shack is a plowed road. They couldn't do that and I understood. However, it also included a guide to come out 2 times a day. I thought with the down roads they would just stop out. Nope, I had to use my cellphone that was bouncing off some Canadian tower to call the front desk to get to tell the guide to stop out. She asked well what do you need. I said food, water, gas, and beer. She said that that is something they dont do.At this time I was really confused. I really can go on and on but I will just touch on a few more things. Our sleeping bags and pillows froze to the walls of the sleeper. The actual heater in their only worked half assessed. They had to have a big ole thing that took up tons of room in a limited space sleeper. You couldn't hang your coat up anywhere. They did give me a discount but the front desk told me if you hated so much why didn't you leave. Classy! The sleeper shacks didn't have any carbon monoxide detectors. read more

One star for the rooms clean. But service is crapy. They got new owners and they don't realize how to care of their customers. I took my wife there for a weekend & no hot water for 2 nights. I let it go the first night but when I ask about it the next night. They came and checked on it and said it's not hot and u should get a discount. He said he would look at it and get back to me. Never heard. No hot water for night 2. Went to take a shower in the morning. My wife got to take a 5 minutes shower then it got cold again. When I checked out I told them I should get a discount. But when I called them Monday they changed there mine and I did not get a refund.... read more

Guides (vehicle drivers) were very good and helpful. The vehicles WigWam uses to transport guests have bad exhaust systems. The drivers should be worried because of long term carbon monoxide exposure. I had a severe headache from lack of oxygen. The converted vans are junk. We were stranded over an hour on the ice due to poor maintenance. There were three breakdowns on two junkers in less than 24 hours affecting my return trip from the ice house and then the next day, on the way to the ice house. When I told 'WigWam' I was disappointed, the reply was: "These things happen". As if I should have expected the headache and the breakdowns. It was not in the brochure. I complained about my total bill having unwarranted charges so management confiscated a drivers $50 tip. Seriously people, check prices and compare, WigWam is not "Guest Friendly". read more
