Again I base this review from the view point of a vegetarian with two vegetarian children.
Firstly if you are a hungry family with young children or (older children in fact) on the Isle Of Wight looking for a venue that not only provides first class home cooked food but with a very large indoor and outdoor play haven for children then this must be your first choice . Nowhere on the island is too far to travel for food of this quality, and for a large and child friendly atmospheric 'pub' than this one.
Secondly, Besides from the vast amount of space outdoors for dining/ drinking and the non intrusive play area at the very rear of the grounds (not to mention the indoor play area which does charge an entry fee but is well worth it), the one thing that stands this pub above the majority of so called 'family friendly' pubs nationally..is the fact that the childrens menu actually reflects its 'wholesome family' image and values that the white mouse inn stands for, unlike the majority of pubs that half heartedly promote a family venue that is in actual fact an adults venue that serves alcohol and very little nutritional value in 'side line' menu of childrens food . Not only are all the meals here home cooked, but the childs menu besides from the obligatory nuggets and chips does actually consist of more than one options for healthy eating versatile (adventurous even? ) children whose taste pallets go beyond the tasteless bland factory farmed mechanically reformed option that is so often forced upon them! At the Wight mouse inn, a child can order from any of the adult/main dishes at a fraction of the price for a fraction of the size. Such a simple concept but such an obvious solution. Therefor I ordered the days special of penne pasta and goats cheese (with peppers and mushroom) priced at £7.95 and that was shared generously between my two young (and hungry) children and myself. With so much left over that we could not finish it! It was served with salad and garlic bread, and I have to admit that this was the largest portion of pasta (outside of Italy) that I had ever seen.
I have to give this pub 10/10 for food
10/10 for childrens facilities
10/10 for innovation
I just hope all other eateries will soon follow suit. Take note: not all children just eat nuggets and chips!! read more
