Dr. Wiesner is simply the best there is! His expertise and caring for his patients is the best there is. I've been a patient for over 25 years and I've met people in his office who have been seeing him for many more years. If you are a new patient be prepared to wait for a while. This is because he takes care and doesn't rush you thru like some doctors. He goes thru your tests with you and explains everything to you. Once you're in the patient room you will see photos of only "some" of his patients who he has taken care of and how grateful they are (by the smiles on their faces) and there are many, many more who can testify to that. Dr. Wiesner is a god. He diagnosed my 13-year-old son's juvenile psoriatic arthritis when no one else could, and even said we should get a second opinion at UCSF. We had a long trip planned early during my son's care and Dr. Wiesner met us at his office at 5:30 a.m. on a Sunday because he wanted to make sure my son had everything needed. I am a pretty positive and optimistic person about almost everything, but sadly my experience with this doctors office has changed my perspective on a lot of things. When I had my first appointment I sat in the waiting room for over 2 hours for my 15 minute appointment. I know that all the reviews below me rave about how the doctor is worth the wait but I would have to disagree. Even though I waited so long for all of my appointments I continued to go for my health. But when I had an unpleasant interaction with his staff, I no longer want to go to his doctor's office. He never communicated with me about my diagnosis and said to me countless times you look strong and good, call me if anything seems from but see me every six months for diagnosis. Depending on the time of day and who you interact with some of his staff are some very nice people. I've had two specific interactions that definitely made my experience worth reviewing for. 1) I made an appointment for myself 6 months in advance. Come to the day of my appointment which is at 6 am, I drive there on time and early to find out that the office no longer opens at 6am but at 7am. When the office opens I find out that my appointment was booked under another patients name and that I was to wait another 6 months to be seen by the doctor again. I was mad that I woke up early and waited over an hour just for their office to open AND I was not able to be seen but I still treated the workers with respect and an understanding attitude 2) during the pandemic I received no calls confirming if the office is still seeing patients or that my appointment is coming up.This led to them billing me for a no show appointment AND the doctor declining to see me again. The person that I spoke with multiple times is named JILL and she is not very nice when explaining things. To try to ask for "forgiveness" Jill told me to write a letter to the Dr. and in doing so I explained the situation and asked for forgiveness. A couple of weeks later I got another call being told that I was "forgiven" for my no show and that the Dr. is allowing me to be seen at his office again. I told them I would give them a call in the future to book an appointment after the pandemic. A couple of months later I receive another bill for my no-show being confused because I was told I have been "forgiven". I called the office and spoke to Jill again and she told me that they actually have found my patient chart and they are taking back their forgiveness and that I need to pay my bill and I will no longer be seen at this office. At this point I am disappointed and angry with my expereince with this office. No doctor is worth this much trouble and negative experience. read more

Dr. Wiesner is the very best rheumatologist in all of Sacramento and maybe in the whole world. He knows all the best doctors in other fields, and he is known to other doctors as the best rheumatologist around. He has such a full practice that he is booked out for months and months in advance. After seeing him for over 25 years, it seemed like an okay idea to be one of the patients he no longer sees, as he already has way too many patients. The time he spends with all his patients, makes them feel they do not have to go it alone with a horrible disease for which there is no cure. Dr Weisner was the worst experience I ever had with a medical professional. My boyfriend is suffering from joint pains everyday for over a year now. We are still working on finding the source but hope keeps fading with every inconclusive test. Dr Weisner did not only express any sympathy or encouragement for us to keep fighting but also treat my sweet, honest boyfriend like a drug addict junky. Dr Weisner made it seem like my boyfriend's pain was not even real; that his suffering is not even worth the doctor's time. Ok don't come here if you need jiffy lube service because the wait will just piss you off. However if you live in constant pain and your quality of life is suffering then this is the place to be. I've had just one appointment with Dr Wiesner and found him to be gentle and genuine. He asked great questions and not just the typical crap that is already on your paperwork. I feel he has a better understanding of my issues after first visit then my original Rhumetologist did after a year in his care. Since I suffer from more than one condition having to sit in a chair is excruciating I would love to have a recliner chair for chronic pain sufferers. Is it okay to write a review for your husband? Speaking as a cancer patient, I have a LOT of experience with doctor's offices so I feel qualified. My husband's primary care doctor called him recently, concerned about something he saw in my husband's neck after a routine x-ray following a traffic accident. He thought it was arthritis and referred my husband to Dr. Wiesner. Let me detour and say my husband's brother has a very serious arthritic condition that caused him to break his neck when brushing his teeth. Really. So, we are slightly concerned. Today was the day of the appointment. My husband waited 2 hours, but never got to see the doctor. Not only that, after a 2 hour wait, he was still not first in line to get in. Had he not walked out, he would probably still be there in that waiting room, five and a half hours post-appointment time. If you are going to see a surgeon, or an OB, you might expect something to occasionally interfere and create a long wait. Car accidents happen, surgeries go long, babies get born. A rheumatologist? What happens? Somebody gets an emergency case of gout? Hubby reports to me that the office staff seemed unconcerned about this wait, acknowledging that it was always like this, but that "once he got in he would get all the time he wanted with the doctor." Since he wanted about five minutes, the wait to time ratio was a bit too high. That is horrible office policy and a bad way to run a business. And yes, folks, medicine is a business. Of course, it's nice that the doctor will spend a lot of time with a patient. But, what if you just want to get in and out? Why should you be subjected to a three hour wait? Why even pretend to have appointments? The office staff seemed uncaring about my husband's time (and he is a high-level IT manager it is is hard for him to be away from work for nothing.) Not only that, but when he'd had enough and decided to give up and go, they were "unable" to process the refund for his co-pay when he left. They had absolutely no trouble taking it, of course, but couldn't give it back. If you are a 90 year old who has nothing to do and doesn't mind spending 3 or 4 hours in an office waiting room so that you can talk to a doctor for an hour or two about all your ailments, than by all means, this practice is for you. I have no idea of the doctor's competence or incompetence. He might very well be the best rheumotologist in all of Sacramento. Maybe he's the best one in the entire world. But, we'll never know, because we are normal people with lives, and can't camp out in his waiting room to find out. If you are the kind of people who make appointments and expect to be seen, you know, around the appointment time, keep in mind that the office staff admitted this is the way they do things. People rave about Dr. Wiesner because of the amount of time that he spends with each patient. However, I find it ridiculous that 5 out of the 6 times I've seen him, I've had to wait more than 2 hours to be seen. The Dr obviously overbooks himself and it is rude and inconsiderate for those that have to take time off of work or utilize such a large amount of precious time off waiting. I write this as I am getting ready to leave after waiting 1 hour 40 minutes. I am no longer able to entertain my 3 yr old daughter even by bringing multiple activities to entertain her with. In addition to the wait time, he seems to makes health assumptions, and lead you to believe that you will be worse off in the future. For example, I don't have lupus, but he said I'll get it, and be just like my grandma with her host of ailments. I just don't get why his patients think he is so amazing, maybe because he gives hugs freely. read more

I had an appointment set for 630 am on Wed 11/27 I received a call from the office receptionist on Tues Nov 26th telling my that my appointment had to moved to 1:30 pm on 11/27. On my way to the appointment my car broke down and I had to be towed to a garage. I spoke the receptionist and told her I would not be able to make the appointment. I called the office on Monday to tell them I was having a flare up and asked if they could have the doctor recommend a dosage of medicine for me. I never heard back?? Absolutely horrible experience. I was thrilled when Dr. Weisner agreed to see me since a friend told me about him. I woke up sick with a cold the morning of my appointment. I called and said I would be there because I didn't want to lose my chance to see the doctor. I asked what their Covid/illness policy was. I was told to stay home so I rescheduled. The day of my appointment came and I drove 40 minutes to the office. Waited for 40 minutes and had to leave to get my child from school. A few weeks later I received a (copy of) rude letter from Dr. Weisner that he sent to my PCP. I guess he wanted me to come in when I was sick and he expects patients wait as long as it takes for him to grace us with his presence on appointment days. Arrogant and rude! Ultimately I am glad it worked out the way it did because this egotistical man is not someone I want as a doctor. I would love my co-pay back! read more

I have been Dr. Wiesner's patient for over 35 years. Yes, I have waited in this office for over 4 hours to see him. Yes I have seen him on Sunday afternoons when other doctors are out on the golf course or home with their families.Yes, I have been his last patient at 9pm. He is the hardest working Doc I know. I tease him when I see him that he needs to take some time off or he will be in his grave and will leave me to suffer without him! I give Dr. Wiesner 10 stars, his office staff a few less. They don't always have it together. But I don't mind, because I KNOW I'm in great hands with such a hard working, dedicated physician like Dr. Wiesner. Yes, I've waited over 3 hrs to see him. I don't care. He gives me as much time as I need when I'm in his exam room. I spent almost a whole day there last year. I had developed excruciating, debilitating pain in my hips (or so I thought). I figured my PR was taking a turn for the worse and dealt with it until I could see him for my regular appointment. He's been my doctor for well over a decade, so he knows me. One look at me and he immediately sent me for x-rays down the street, with instructions to hand carry the images back ASAP. Once I returned I was sent back into the exam room again and he carefully looked them over. Fortunately it wasn't my hips, but a back issue, which could be fixed. He CARES about his patients, he truly wants to help. Yes, his workload is enormous, a LOT of sick folks out there, but I consider myself fortunate to be able to see him every 3-4 months, or more if needed. I don't know what I'll do when he retires. I'm one of the younger patients, but certainly not the youngest. My heart (and his too) hurts for the babies/children he sees. I became ill at age 19, I'm now 43. He has always listened to my concerns, educated me and expected me to educate MYSELF (self-responsibility people) on my disease and how to help me help him. It's a two-way street. Anyone who whines about the wait, go to Kaiser, see what kind of treatment you get there! I had to go there for a year....ONE visit with their rheumatologist (who could hardly speak English) and I literally left in tears and paid out of pocket to keep seeing Dr. Wiesner that awful year. Here is the absolute truth about Dr. Wiesner. When you go to his office you can expect to wait a couple of hours to see him. Yep, a couple of hours. He spends an incredible amount of time with each of his patients. He starts each day seeing patients at around 5:00 am and this is on weekends too. He continues to see patients until late in the evening. His office is old-school. Nothing fancy there. That's how he keeps his costs down so he can provide services to those who are in need. My daughter was very ill and no other doctor knew what was wrong. Every specialist we saw referred us to Dr. Wiesner. One specialist even said "he is the best diagnostician in Sacramento." That's how much respect he has from his colleagues in the medical field. Dr. Wiesner saw my daughter's labs and had her come in on Super Bowl Sunday for an appointment. He diagnosed her with a rare disorder that I'm certain would have gone undiagnosed. If this disorder wasn't diagnosed early it could have meant a lifetime of irreversible pain and agony for my daughter. At the appointment, he spent quite a while explaining to us what the disorder meant and what kind of treatment my daughter would need. People drive and fly to Sacramento from all over the place to see Dr. Wiesner. So, yeah, when you see him you will wait a couple of hours minimum. But you need to ask yourself.....do you want a quick diagnosis or the RIGHT diagnosis? He's the best doctor my daughter has ever had and when he retires, Sacramento will lose one of the best doctor's around. One more thing.......Patients of Dr. Wiesner are hoping to prevent a lifetime of agony and to create a descent quality of life. So, to put things in perspective......if you have an appointment with Dr. Wiesner and your biggest concern is how long the appointment will take, then your condition isn't severe enough to see Dr. Wiesner yet. My advice would be to find a doctor who will get you in and out of his/her office in 15 minutes. Then, when/if your condition worsens to the point where you are afraid of losing your life or losing your quality of life, then go see Dr. Wiesner for the RIGHT diagnosis and treatment. I am 42 and was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis at 26; I have been a patient of Dr. Wiesner for the past 8 years after transferring here from out of state. I'm also an executive level IT professional with time being an extremely valuable commodity. My work requires days of travel, flights, long hours and high pressure in an extremely demanding and fast caliber corporate environment...not a winning combination for an auto-immune situation. I get it, no one enjoys waiting. However, the fact is that there is absolutely no better Rheumatologist in this area and I would spend 10 hours waiting in his office to be seen. Why? His communication skills uncover ailments that I would never complain about because they seem trivial to me but turns out they are critical in his overall diagnosis. Five stars and then some. I was diagnosed with lupus in 2001 and when we moved to the foothills I became a patient of Dr. Wiesner's about 2005. I have solved the wait problem to my own satisfaction. I make my appointments for late morning or early afternoon since I drive in from out of town. I check in with the office staff, ascertain the wait time, then go to lunch or shopping in the area. They call me when it is nearly time for me to see Dr. Wiesner, and I return to the office for my consult with him. I have always received excellent care and advice, not just for the lupus, but other things that have occurred along the way. A great doctor and a caring and compassionate man. read more

I can't believe anyone would rate Dr. Wiesner with anything less than 5 stars. You know why the wait time is long? It's because he is such a wonderful doctor that he is booked out 6 months in advance. When my son was diagnosed with JRA, he had to visit the doctor every 3 weeks (not possible with a Dr. booked 6 mos out?) Well, his office made it happen, he cares so much about helping, that he makes time. He had essentially cured my son with no lasting deformities or side effects. My son was 12 when he was diagnosed and he walked like a 90 yr. old man and had horrible swelling to his joints, it was heart wrenching. Now...my son is 17 and plays club volleyball year round and has grown to be almost 6 foot tall with no issues. He's in a medicated remission and we owe it all to Dr. Wiesner. You know why his office isn't fancy, it's because his rates are insanely reasonable. Another thing, people talk about the office being behind by hours early in the morning, you may not realize this but he starts treating patients as early as 5am on a Saturday morning. I am very busy too, so this is the time slot my son and I choose to avoid the long wait time. Dr. Wiesner obviously cares about his patients and I for one, and relieved he hasn't retired already. I saw wiesner and waited a long long time. Thing is the guy works 7 days a week and half days on holidays. My cardiologist at Ucdavis ( head of the department) after hearing I went to this dr said he's the best guy around. My follow up appointment was at 7. It turned out 7pm! I left the office at 9. I'm writing this only after seeing the other review. The fact you had an appointment says a lot about who referred you. The dr takes as long as time as necessary for each person. When I made my appointment I was told bring a book it may be a few hours. The staff had long gone after the end of my last appointment at 9pm, here is an older doctor who long ago could have retired, working unreal hours, and with patients from very far away I found by listening to the travel stories. I get someone could have a problem, and with a patient load that is heavy they are always behind. Too bad for those who do not get it. I was very lucky to have a primary care dr that sent me to the best around. Considering I'm 41 and about the youngest patient I can see why people are not singing praises on yelp. Yes, there is a wait. He's private practice and doesn't have to rush through patients, like doctors who work for medical groups do (i.e. kaiser, sutter, mercy, etc.). Some will complain about waiting, but I will wait. My health and well-being are my first priority, without that, I can't be the best mom I am able to be, a good daughter or great employee, or functioning member of society. I tend to get the first appointment of the day at 5:30am. Yes, that's right, 5:30am and no wait. That's how early he starts. He's hands down the most dedicated doctor I've been to and the best rheumatologist around. I researched him and many more before selecting him about 3 yeas ago. My prior rheumatologists were okay, but that's it, they were just okay. He's not even in my network and I go to him because he's that good. Being an active 38 year old who doesn't appear sick from the outside, it's very important to me to find a doctor that is an expert in the autoimmune diseases and other issue I have. He listens and know his stuff. I have since moved an 90 mins away and I still go to him. I'm happy to say that in the last year with his knowledge and help and maintaining a very mindful and healthy lifestyle, I am feeling pretty well for having incurable diseases. Dr Wiesner is my favorite Dr. I've been seeing Dr Wiesner for over 25 years, and I dread the day he retires. He diagnosed my arthritis at age 31, explaining that it was systemic and with me for life, which I thought was over. He is a very caring and compassionate Dr who deals with very ill people and never gives up on us. His office staff will allow you to check in at appt time and then give you an estimate on when he will be available, so you can go shop or have a meal, etc. If your pain isn't bad enough to wait for him, you are just not that sick!!
