    Having wine at Wide River
    Carol G.

While shopping today my daughter and I stopped in to have a glass of wine with Cranberry Dip from the small bites menu. The staff was attentive and informative. We were both offered a free sip of our wine if choice prior to purchasing a glass. Nice relaxing decor. They do have outdoor seating and on occasion entertainment too. I'll definitely be stopping in again in the future.

Have you ever wanted to feel like you're in California while sippin' on the Mississippi? Well Wide River Winery is the Place for you. The chic tasting room is cozy and welcoming, and there is ample outdoor seating, with a gorgeous hillside view of the Mississippi River Valley. From refined dry reds to refreshing sweet whites WRW's menu will satisfy any Sommelier.

Awesome tasting experience.. even for somebody that doesn't frequent wine! Our group stopped in and all enjoyed it so much we split a case to take home! Our pourer was extremely knowledgeable and helpful with our experience. The wine menu was detailed and helped us make our choices for the 5 samples we each got! For $8 a person with a glass, it seemed like an affordable experience (again, I don't frequent wine tastings). I'm sure we will be stopping in again next time we're in town!

I stopped in here on an early Tuesday evening while I was in the area with my sister. It was a nice quiet visit since there was only one other group there at the time. We sat at the bar and were greeted with a tasting list. The woman that helped us was very friendly and helped guide us through our wine tasting selections. We had such a nice time! I bought a bottle of our favorite to take home. The best part, aside from the delicious wine, was that the $8 tasting (5 samples) included a wine glass to take home! That was an unexpected bonus! When I'm in the area again, I'll definitely be back.

Only winery I've been to that does not serve glasses of wine. You have to buy the whole bottle. Doesn't make sense.

You can sit outside on the patio overlooking the vineyard or even sit in the vineyard. You order your wine selection in the gift shop that also offers small plates. They have many different wine varieties and Andy who worked there gave us a detailed description of each one. Unfortunately he was also a sale person wanting you to spend money which was a turnoff. We each elected to do a tasting of 3 different wines - all reds .Unfortunately the beautiful setting was better than any of the wines we tasted. We walked away disappointed as we really wanted to buy a bottle to support a local business but we just didn't care for any of the 6 we tried. If you are in the area and want to relax and enjoy the beautiful landscape of Galena Territory, give them a try and maybe you will find a wine that you will like.

In fact the flavor was so offensive to my pallet that I didn't finish any of the three varieties recommended. I really enjoy dry wines and stayed clear of the sweet so maybe that was the issue. The sales pressure was a real turnoff. I felt it was overpriced as well. Go for the views and the lovely garden patio but for dry red wine lovers I would fergedaboudit!

Walked in said hello,…read morewaitress (hotess? idk, first time here) walks up, then instead of greeting us, goes to the cash register to our left. Busily says "hi" and nothing else, then waves over a couple to ring up. There's no one else around. We stand in place. And wait and wait and wait. She never says anything else to us and she's three feet to our left. Because she didn't say we could seat ourselves, we waited for her to finish ringing up the couple. Once she had, she almost annoyed told us to sit wherever we wanted. So, this waitress no bueno and she does her job like she hates it. I was glad she did not wait on us. Please have a greeter, or a sign or something. Be aware this is the rural midwest (I grew up here, I get to criticize). Everyone will stare at you as you walk in and find your seat if they don't know you. It's because the duality of the midwest commands that you say hi to them, but because they don't know you from church, they will not say hello back. Just ignore them. It's the only way to get a midwesterner to stop icily staring at you: say hello to them. If they don't know you from church, they'll move on. I know most locals will love this place, but I didn't enjoy it. It was nothing special and I was hoping for a nice, fun little lunch. No fun. Just lunch, and a very so-so lunch. Cavernous space, adjacent to an even larger event space. Service was fast, perfunctory. Small kitchen, they do soups and sandwiches for lunch. Soup was good, sandwich was meh. It's all the very standard lunch fare. Not a food destination. I'll also say it's not much of a wine destination. Each of ours tasted really green to me and I don't consider myself a wine snob. I've simply drunk lots and lots of wine. They removed the only non-sweet white wine from the menu, the one I wanted to try. Lovely view of the property out back. I remember when the front house was an abandoned property many years ago. I wish them well, but it's not for me. It's more an event space

It's just off the I-80 and they have the most beautiful facility. My limited notes are from six years ago with Melanie as an outstanding server and our last encounter with a very pleasant, Christina. The service is excellent, the food is excellent. I look forward to the wine tasting, as well. Very knowledgeable attendants and not too stingy on the pours. I really enjoyed the bourbon barrel flavor and aroma - a very nice dry wine. I had a great conversation with the owner, Donna, who stated they had been in commercial operations for 10 years and having this physical site open for 8 years. She was a wealth of information and extremely nice and cool person to talk with - she knows he wines! On the website it says it starts at 11 on Sundays. Did I miss something? I am extremely disappointed. I really wish that they actually called us ahead of time and left a voicemail and informed us that it was canceled or that they decided to take another group, so that we had alternative plans for this weekend. We are disappointed that we missed out on other potential outings due to the lack of communication. We were really looking forward to the tour honestly. Instead, we feel like they are gaslighting us to believe that we are in the wrong by saying we never picked up and that we would've gone on the tour had we answered. Trust me, we would've picked up had we received a call. If we received an apology for the lack of communication, I would gladly rescind this review. It's a shame how they choose to approach their customers. I'm sure it would've been very fun to go, but based on my experience, I can't recommend.
