Great service and communication! Taxes were done in a reasonable time. I also like that it's close to home and not in town.

She was knowledgeable about starting a small business with an LLC, so I will give her that, but after working with her more, my husband and I have decided she's just not what our business is looking for, especially since we are now growing. We were happy with her service in the start but overtime it was just not up to par. Yes, she can advise on how to start an LLC on our own and do our tax returns, but that is it. If you are looking for someone to help you plan ahead for your business for tax strategies and tax planning, this may not be the place. We only ever heard from her for our returns and that was it. Upon going with another company, we also discovered some forms we did not file but were supposed to, which Kara did not inform us of. For tax returns, there is a portal to download your documents, but there is no "list" or things that we should consider uploading, so it can be a lot of back and forth on- send your expenses, send your mortgage, send this and that or cannot finalize return, etc. It just seems unorganized and if you're dreading taxes, this will make it worse. I also had a return for a different state in 2022 that was not filed (unsure why a different company omitted it). However, I decided to do it independently since Kara mentioned there would be a nominal fee if she did it because she does not know about another state's filing regulations. I asked the previous accounting company if it would cause any problems since it was omitted, and they said it would be ok since the IRS has a matching system and will send us a notification if anything was excluded so we could wait for that. Upon getting the notification, we can decide whether to make an amendment. Kara failed to mention that part. We felt she just wanted us to spend more money to have her do it or something. We moved from MY Personal CPA to her because yearly we would get a different tax preparer so we thought if we went with a smaller company (First Choice Accounting) we would get more personalized help but going with a one person team means getting emails at odd times like late at night and getting missed. Also, even though I did not go with Kara submitting my out of state return, I got charged a one-time $150 fee for Kara reviewing the 2022 tax return which I was not aware of. She was not upfront about the fact that there would be a charge when she asked if I could send her my 2022 return so she could look at it to figure out why the other state W2 was omitted. When I brought up that I was not expecting a charge, she did not reply to me. Finally, she always apologizes for responding late. Her cat got spayed, stayed up late, and was busy. You call her, and she doesn't pick up, but she will reply via email which increases more of the back and forth. This pretty much sums up why we are going with someone else even if we have to pay $400 to part from her since she said she already worked on our return even though she was still asking for documents and more clarification.

She was thorough with her filing of my tax & helped me through a lot of forms/things I was not aware of for filing as a 1099 contractor, as well as with multiple W2s.

Which the day of my appointment she couldn't fulfill my request due to being unqualified with any foreign assets. Which she wanted to adjust the appointment onto another advisor. However, the receptionist intervened that no other advisors could take me in due to unavailability. She was adamant on that I need to reschedule, however my reservations should still be fulfilled regardless of my situation. While J. Castro, the tax advisor was trying to be helpful, the receptionist insisted that I can't be helped with my appointment. This is my experience here and I've gone through HR Block for the last 6 years in various areas, so I know what needs to be processed. It's when people think they have some administrative control that think they can run over their advisors. Good help is hard to find, but the first layer of service needs to be improved. No wonder this particular area is poorly performing.

I have used these guys for the passed two years and it seems like there is something wrong with…read moretheir system or something wrong with the training of their staff. I have little faith that my taxes have been done correctly over the last two tax seasons that I always buy the insurance. Between the two times that I have filed one year I didn't owe and this year I do owe. Nothing has changed with my marital status, or employment , or dependents, yet somehow my taxes are not matching up. This year, my tax prep person is chalking it up to if I get money back from my federal, it's okay that I still owe a little on my state. Which to me doesn't make sense.. if last year I didn't owe anything but the this year I do? Something seems sketchy. Now whenever I try to get clarification on the issue it is nearly impossible to get a hold of my tax prep person. I call the office , leave messages, email multiple times with no return. The only time I seem to be able to get a hold of my tax prep person is if I call HR customer service (mainland line) and complain and have to schedule a meeting with my tax prep persons. I know tax season is a busy time for everyone, but I shouldn't have to wait over two weeks to get a response on a question! Finally, after working with my taxes pro since January, she gives it to me to review, pay and sign.. which I do (everything at this point is competed in mid march). Also at this point I'm exhausted on trying to get her to fix my taxes so I don't owe (like how I didn't owe last year) so I just give up and will pay whatever she says I owe to the state. So now that I've signed everything I assume it's going to be submitted . Fast forward a few weeks, no tax submission... now having to go through the headache of trying to contact my tax pro again, she's telling me it's because I need to pay for services again?? No I already gave them $535 for their services what do I need to pay for again?? I sent my receipts and still waiting for a response and still waiting for my taxes to be submitted . NEVER coming back !

It seems as though they had really good service back then and I guess service compared to 5 years ago is not as good now. My husband and I were looking for a good CPA who understands our tax financial situation and since my sister has been going to Dan for a while, I figured he would be a good one. Welp.. let me tell you.. We've had nothing but bad experience. We had an initial consultation with Dan via zoom to discuss our tax papers. There were some mistakes from our previous tax consultant and he explained that to us. Instead of assuring us that it's fine and he can fix it, he gave me the impression that it was our fault and "shame on us" feeling. I brushed it off thinking he has a lot of taxes to do so maybe he's a little stressed. No big deal. I emailed him most of the information he asked for and had questions for some. I asked in the email if everything was there and he didn't respond (2x). So I guess email isn't his thing. Again, trying to brush it off. Once we turned in everything, in APRIL, thinking everything would be processed. I totally forgot about it and it dawned on me in JUNE that we didn't get our tax refund yet. So I called to follow up and come to find out OUR PAPERS WEREN'T EVEN PROCESSED!!! Now I'm angry and disappointed that no one bothered to call us to let us know that it hasn't been processed and we still needed to go in and sign papers before it got sent. Ugh! So mad but whatever! Not like gas prices are through the roof, I have rent to pay, and I just had a baby whom I need to feed. Three weeks later.. STILL NO TAX REFUND. What the heck! I called to follow up and no one is giving me a straight answer. Instead, I had to find out from my sister that they spelled my son's name wrong and had to process the papers again. Now I'm still waiting!!! Ughhhhhhh!!! I HATE TAX SEASON and I despise people who can't communicate. Had they just communicated through the process, I don't think I would be leaving them a -5 star
