We saw some nice antique farm implements and assorted military and fishing collectibles. We have attended on 5 star days. The offering changes from week to week. A food truck and small cafe provide assorted breakfast and lunch fare. I have not tried the food because it is mostly fried. There is plenty of parking and restroom facilities. I live just east of SoBro, though I'm known to claim the area as my homefront. SoBro Vintage Market is probably right on that line between what would be considered SoBro and Broad Ripple, though it undeniably carries a SoBro vibe. In case there's any doubt, this is a vintage market. The vibe tends to change here from visit to visit, though I'm not going to say I actually frequent the place because, quite honestly, it's not always particularly wheelchair friendly. Some of this stuff is vintage enough that I don't want to take a chance on breaking it with my chair. You can get art here. You can get music here. You can get clothing here. You can get some furniture here. If you look up this place on social media, you'll see that they actually have "& Curiosities" in their name - that's appropriate because they have quite a bit that I would simply call "curiosities." Prices range from "great deal" to WTF?" It seems like when I've been here, I've always seen quite a bit that falls into mid-century. That's kind of appropriate considering an awful lot of SoBro would fall into that era (including my home - a 1955 California ranch). When they are open, they are known for putting some items outside (which is how I finally stopped - I saw a wonderful retro dining room table that was to die for). People are friendly and knowledgeable. I honestly don't know a lot about the place, other than I find it to be ultra-cool, and I've never stopped by that I didn't see something I'd want (and will sometimes get). If you're into the vintage scene, SoBro Vintage Market is definitely worth a visit. If you have mobility issues or are a wheelchair user, just be aware that sometimes it gets pretty tight inside and you'll want to exercise caution.

A smiling clerk welcomed us and explained the three buildings holding antiques and lamp shades. Brown's has been in business since 1945! I was drawn to the Clay City Pottery with beautiful colors. (Clay City Pottery is local, made on the west side of the state.) My husband honed in on several old political buttons. The antique furniture is lovely - mostly colonial. Prices are reasonable, especially for the quality of the antiques. A small cottage is filled with traditional style lampshades and a few more antiques. The garden that connects the buildings is lovely and peaceful. Old grinding stones are used for the walkways. There are several flights of stairs and the walkways are probably difficult to maneuver in a wheel chair or with a stroller. Street parking is free.

I'm only giving them three stars because they did have some unique items inside. We did encounter two problems during our visit. The first was simply getting into the shop. There aren't any regular steps into the shop entrance. They have two unusually shaped stones stacked upon each other without any handrails to hold on as you step up into the shop. My wife has some physical restrictions and I had to hold her hand just to get her into the shop safely. I can't imagine how difficult to enter if there was ice. The second problem was that in the time we browsed through the shop, not one person appeared from the front of the building (maybe they live there?) We could see people through an open door but I felt uncomfortable walking through. So, nobody on duty to answer questions or help make a purchase. No bell to ring, or sign to welcome visitors back to the other part of the building. I honestly have no idea if they knew we were there. You will also notice that there is a strong smell of a home where smoking once was prevalent. I imagine that if you bought some wood or fabric items, you would have to leave them out to get rid of the odor. In fairness, I did see a number of unique items and the shop itself was easy to get around. The upstairs was closed off, so I don't know if there is anything up there worth viewing. Note: I also didn't see much lighting materials as is listed in the Yelp business name. There were a few fixtures and shades, but not so much that I would add it to the name. Overall, I was a bit disappointed in the lack of attention the owners/managers put into improving the customer experience. We bought a beautiful architectural antique piece and an iron "dog head" leash holder - both are unique and were well priced. We're actually sorry we wavered on a painting and will be going back next week crossing fingers that it is still there. They have a few designers with a case full of pieces and then they also carry bins of estate finds! You're able to try on things from the cases but also you're able to dig through the bins! I found a bin of brooches- all $10 each. I walked out with... ten!!! I also tried on a few stackable rings! Make sure you take a peak at the pieces in the windows too! (That's what drew me in!)
