If you have a large estate, are on a strict timeline or looking for a timely accounting & payment, Aether Auction is likely not the right choice. While owners Lee and Tiffany seem to be genuinely nice people, and there were isolated positives--such as Lee honestly notifying me and securing cash he found while sorting the estate--the overall experience was deeply disappointing due to systematic delays, poor communication, and marketing failures. I met with Lee on April 30. He explained their process, stating that virtually nothing of value would be left worth donating and highlighting his background as an appraiser. This gave me confidence that items would be properly identified, staged, and marketed. Unfortunately, the execution fell short: * Rushed Prep & Poor Lotting: Despite being completely upfront about the massive size of the estate, the final preparation days felt frantic. Valuable items were grouped into large miscellaneous lots with minimal descriptions. Commercial construction tools (drywall, roofing, woodworking) were stacked on top of one another so buyers couldn't see the inventory. Valuable Christmas collectibles, including three trees and highly collectible ornaments, weren't even mentioned in the descriptions. Unsold items were stacked in front of closets, blocking access. * Platform Limitations & Omissions: I received the auction link only after it was already live, discovering pages of needed corrections. I then learned the platform has a strict listing limit--a crucial constraint never disclosed upfront. Consequently, valuable items were omitted entirely, while deeply personal items like my school yearbooks were mistakenly listed. * Substandard Photography & Staging: The platform doesn't support video, making high-quality photography vital. Instead, photos appeared taken haphazardly with an iPhone. An expensive watch featured a blatant reflection of the phone in the crystal. An etched glass artwork was photographed against a stone fireplace, blending into the background so completely it looked like a lump of stone. * Missed Historical Context: A Federal parlor set with documented provenance was broken into three separate lots simply because they couldn't photograph it together. The historical context and provenance were entirely omitted, significantly diminishing its market value. Pickup day on May 28 went well with a hardworking crew, which left quite a mess themselves. Tiffany apologized for the issues and offered to run a second auction to clear the remaining items, noting she had more personal knowledge of them. Unfortunately, that second auction never materialized. Over the next several weeks, I faced repeated delays, missed appointments, and excuses. On multiple occasions, I rearranged my schedule and waited at the house for hours, only to find out they weren't coming after I initiated contact. On the final scheduled date, Tiffany was hours late; after reaching out, a third party told me they wouldn't be coming and a representative would call to resolve it. He came out, but offered no resolution. Because the listing of my home was contingent on the estate being cleared, this lack of commitment has left my real estate agent completely unable to list the property. Furthermore, the financial accounting has been slow. Payment for the first auction required prompting. As of July 10, I still have not been paid for items pulled into a separate jewelry-only auction, despite it closing a month ago. Switching companies now is incredibly difficult because the remaining items are disconnected, making it hard for another auctioneer to build a cohesive sale. I wanted this to be a positive experience, but I cannot recommend Aether Auction. Greater transparency regarding platform limits, professional presentation, better communication, and honoring scheduled commitments would have made a massive difference. read more

Lee and his Team did an excellent job with our Estate Sale several years ago in Zionsville IN. Their marketing was excellent. The crew in-hand were knowledgeable, friendly, and strong. There were at least 75 people queued up at our front door before we opened for business. They were gracious to me and my husband allowing us to stay at the property during the sale days. We never interfered unless asked a question. Revenue from the 2-day sale was more than $10K. I am hoping to have the same experience with my next sale in Northeast Florida. read more

Since I had previous dealings with Aether, and they were positive interactions, I accepted the reason they didn't have the items. I was assured they would personally deliver said items within a couple of days. That was 2 months ago. I have yet to get my items or a refund. I have spoken to Tiffany and we texted back and forth about the issue - to no avail... lots of talk and no action. She assured me she would get this resolved and get me my items that were missing (this is the 2nd time they failed to provide items that I have paid for). The service requested to resolve their lack of professionalism, is shotty at best and the value is not good if you don't get what you paid for. I am glad I didn't travel as far as the other people I saw this morning, but I am disappointed nonetheless. I showed up about 2 hours before the posted start time of an estate sale that featured 80s toys. When I got in line I was immediately told the sale manager had sold *all the toys* in the middle of the night. I called Aeither's home office and they confirmed this. It goes against their stated rules: "We do not offer previews or pre-sales. By leveling the playing field, we have built a large following of shoppers who know that they will always have an equal chance to purchase the most sought after items in each sale." As a buyer, I like their normal estate auctions, but BEWARE of their online Amazon return auctions. They will advertise the item as something specific from amazon, even include the main amazon link/photo, but when you get the item it is completely different. I have received rugs that were not the advertised size. Lights that were said to be solar but end up being electric. (they cannot claim they did not know, as I was able to type in the number on the box and it brought up exactly what the item was, not what they advertised it as. They had not taken a photo of that part of the box, so I was unable to look it up beforehand). Sometimes you can visually tell from the photos they post of the ACTUAL item, that it is indeed not the item they say it is. Other times they will not post a single picture of the actual item at all, so you have to assume it is what they are advertising it as. They clearly state in the details that it is an open box auction and the absence of defects does not mean they do not have them. THAT IS SHADY! See photos of an example of one of their listings. at least with this one, you could tell it was not even close to the item they said it was. Basically, if it's an estate sale, you are fine to buy, they seem to be honest and upfront about those items. If it is a return amazon sale, be very careful and prepared to lose money. read more

It took a couple of weeks to get the results and then they said they would deposit a payment 'soon' for the net proceeds. Then over 2 weeks passed - multiple messages with no response. I recently down sized from a large home to a 2 bedroom apartment. I had many, many beautiful things that I could not take with me. Several antique dealers recommended Aether. Please, please, please do not use them. They could not have done a worse job if they had too. Their workers don't know anything about labeling your items. They are lazy and actually refused to mark many items. Our sale was supposed to last a week but ended up being 4 days because of their laziness! There were so many items that did not get in the sale that the owners took with them and said they would add them to another sale. After weeks of not seeing our items attached to another sale, and having heard every excuse you can possibly imagine, we called and said we were coming to get our things. The address they gave for their business was actually their apartment. Sound legitimate? We did not get all of our things back and were told they never had them in the first place. We also did not get the money we did make for several weeks and had to call several times to get that. They start all bids at a dollar so you can imagine how much you get in 4 days for a $1000 dollar item. They are a huge scam. I hated to give them one star. read more

Contrary to other perspectives, my family had a first class experience with Aether. My father passed from a short battle with cancer. He served 11 years in the US Air Force, 30 years in the US Army, and another 10+ years serving this country as a civilian. Everyone in my family was born in a different country and he and my mother had some pieces we considered invaluable from all corners of the earth. All we wanted to do was honor him and do whatever it took to take care of our mother, little brother, and the estate as quickly and painlessly as possible, which included emptying and selling a home. In the chaos following my father's passing, Aether helped give us the confidence that they could liquidate what we left in the home quickly and without fuss. Their representative Lee met me when he said he would, was up front on exactly what would happen. We pulled what we wanted to keep and Aether effectively cleaned out the entire house for us including trash removal. With my siblings and I living in other states, this was piece of mind that we needed. We met on a Tuesday. They tagged and prepped the home on Monday. That same day they posted our estate sale on their site with over 300 pictures of items available. In reviewing their site and detailed instructions, it was clear to us that they are very experienced. Then, that Friday and Saturday our sale occurred. Friends of ours that attended the sale were also impressed at how organized and well-attended the event was. Next, 3 business days after the sale they sent us our detailed sales info and planned remittance that will be wired directly to my mother. Other than their high standards and professionalism, we really appreciated how much they handled for us during this troubling period. I admittedly only had to have one meeting with them. We shared a couple emails and docs were signed electronically. It was one less big thing for us to worry about. So, if you find yourself in a similar position where your primary objective is to empty a home and prepare it to sell, consider Aether. Everyone takes time to post about bad experiences. Mr Ross now tells me he can not tell me who the owners are. So I can reach out to them. I believe now I may have to get the authorities involved, as this is a firearm and is interstate. Only staged the house for 2 days not 3. Tried to do sale for only 2 days. Things were way over priced we assume on purpose so it wouldn't sell and y'all could take it when clearing the house after. Incomplete prep work(staged 50% of items and very little pricing) changing sale from 3 day sale to 2 day. When we tried to cancel sale we were threatened with a possible lien on our property. Expensive vintage antiques valued at possible hundreds of dollars for each item were sold for under 50 to conseal item description. Discounts of 50 to 75% were given to customers and/or employees. I buy from online auctions nearly every week through several different companies and auction platforms. I have participated in a couple of Aether's online auctions recently - one in West Lafayette and the other on Carmel. I realize there is a certain risk involved when buying from auctions online and not inspecting an item personally prior to bidding, however, one would expect a company to provide as many pictures as necessary and an accurate condition description to aid the online buyer. With Aether, very few pictures and little to no description is provided but I still decided to give it a try. With both auctions, I picked up my won lots to great disappointment. There was very obvious damage and some not so obvious to merchandise which was not pictured or described. Lesson learned, I will not return a third time and will stick to the auction companies who do their due diligence to provide the customer with as much pertinent information to help make their decision to bid and buy. read more

I used Aether estate sales and not only did they steal items from my home, they stated items would not be pre sold or held and they were to their employees at an extremely discounted rate. Items that were held were still leftover after the sale, an item should never have been held. It is in their contract they will not do it. They do. They damaged my back door without telling me. They ripped the door frame off taking a fridge out the back door, rather than calling/texting or even letting me know at the end of the sale. I found out by doing a walk through of my home. I was told I could not be there or have friends or family there during the sale. I now understand why, it is due to their illegal and irresponsible tactics. They removed a box of cords and electrical equipment worth thousands of dollars, stating they could better sell them on ebay. They never made payment for any of the items Lee removed from my home. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. You will be scammed. Lee and his company are untrustworthy, dishonest and take items from your home without ever paying you, just a promise to pay when they sell. This is a scam, they do not pay you. His wife also took photos of items presale and text messaged them to her friends and recurrent clients that attend the sales. This was not allowed per the contract either. They do not itemize and tag everything as promised, they sell your items in bulk and give it away for free on the second day to look like everything was "sold." Do not trust this company. I started shopping for outdoor furniture in the first week in June, as we have a large deck and have been wanting to furnish it. I saw that there was an estate sale scheduled for July 14 and July 15 in Naples, FL. The outdoor furniture in the photographs appeared to be exactly what I was looking for. My husband and got up early to make the drive to Naples. As we were waiting to be allowed into the home, we were told that the patio furniture was not for sale because 15 minutes before the sale started, the owner decided to keep the furniture.
