We stopped by Wicker Park on the way from terminal B to a flight in terminal F. We had about 30 minutes before our flight boarded, so we stopped and asked the maître d', or the man seating people by the door, anyway, and asked if we had time for a quick piece of sushi and a drink. He asked how much time we had, and I said, well, 20 to 30 minutes. He said, no. I responded, sort of aghast, "really?" He doubled down, even though one side of the bar and half the tables were empty, and said yup. We won't enjoy it and he couldn't ask the staff to rush because we'd never be happy. He then turned to the next couple and asked if he could help them. Clearly he's never traveled on business, when a 10 minute respite is worth a $million! Pretty good overall. Service is excellent wide variety of rolls. Limited variety of fish for sushi/sashimi. It missed 5 stars because the salmon sashimi was not up to par to my tastes. It tasted like farmed raised Atlantic salmon which means no taste at all. It would have disappointed my wife greatly. Definitely one of the best spots in an airport I've been to. Had the Salmon Poke bowl and the Miso soup. The soup was average but the bowl was surprisingly good. Sushi rice was better than expected and it came out nice and spicy, which was nice. I'd definitely recommend the walk over here from whatever terminal you have a layover on. The place is good, but can't compare there are no other sushi in the airport. Bad habits: they use to talk over the food while preparing it. Bad hygiene: they touch everything using the plastic gloves, then use a rag to "clean the glove up" (don't know how long the rag has been there) and prepare the sushi.... Better have a lot of wasabi or alcohol or hot spicy food to kill germs and bacteries. read more

Great idea - it's hard to find something healthy in an airport - but very poor quality. Expect to pay more in an airport but the prices here for the food are a joke. The nigiri is tiny - smallest piece of rice under a piece of fish I have ever seen at about an inch in length. They offer tempura but it is clearly cooked off site and reheated in an oven - mine was cold and soggy. Very disappointing. read more

Overpriced with average service. I've eaten there twice and this second time was most likely my last. I paid $19 for a caterpillar role that looked and tasted like it cost $6. Service was "zombie-like" with the server reaching over my left shoulder on one occasion without saying "pardon me" or words to that effect and another worker replacing the napkin and chop sticks before I could even move my things after I ate. There was also residue from a prior customer on the counter in front of me - with no attempt to clean it up before the aforementioned action. Lastly - the water tasted like it had a chemical in it; possible use of ice that is used to chill wine or beer or glass not properly rinsed. Sushi preparers seemed to be having a good time socializing; this is fine when preparing high quality product. But in this case, they should focus more on the product!!! read more

I was on my way to Allentown PA with a layover in ORD. This restaurant was right next to gate E1, so I decided to check it out. The sushi is not fresh at all as I sat at the bar and can see the chief's every move. The roles are small and the taste is mediocre at best. I ordered the hot Night role and it was a total disappointment. The role was so skinny, it's barely enough for a cat. The service was also slow. After taking my order, the waiter totally disappeared and never asked if my food was OK or if I needed anything. This is not a place you want to visit if you like taste and service. read more

My experience was so foul at Wicker Park, I had to create an account to make sure no one else endures the same fate. I am a frequent traveler and foodie; eat sashimi at least 2 times a week and don't mind paying $$$$ as long as the food and service is good. This is where I made a mistake when I stopped at Wicker Park for dinner while waiting for my next flight. BUYER BEWARE! 1st The eel roll was tasteless. The rice was sticky and I don't know what type of sauce was used. (MAYBE I'M USED TO TASTE.) 2nd I ordered a 3-piece Sake sashimi. It came a few minutes after I finished the eel roll and WAS SMOKED SALMON. Who does this? When I told the waitress, she asked "Is that not what you wanted?". (NO, SALMON SASHIMI IS RAW SALMON- NOT SMOKED SALMON!) 3rd It took so long to bring the correct salmon, I had to go, so I told the waitress '...forget the salmon, please bring the bill, I have to go." Instead, a few minutes later, another waitress brought the salmon. ( 4th When the bill came, I was charged for a double martini. I asked another waitress (because my waitress was nowhere to be found again). She said "We only sell double martinis." (FAR FROM A DOUBLE AND SMALLER THAN A REGULAR.) Airport sushi can be sketchy but this place is solid. Sure its a bit pricey but for ORD its definitely one of the best restaurants. The reason for 5 stars though is not the sushi. It's the Udon. I totally agree with another yelper who said this is the best they ever had(I've been around the world and Japan several times). You gotta try the beef udon(or soba). It's perfect. I have always had a fairly good experience when I've stopped here. The service can be a little spotty, but today Vesela was attentive and quick. Today I tried the Hot Night Roll, the Negi Toro Roll (fatty blue fin tuna), and the Hotate nigiri sushi (Japanese scallop). The Hot Night Roll was fairly standard and not particularly interesting, even though it was billed as a specialty. It was a little spicy and the tuna tasted fresh. The tempura shrimp seemed a little stale without much crunch. The Negi Toro Roll was absolutely delicious. The tuna was melt-in-your-mouth and was well-balanced with the scallions. If you haven't tried Toro, you should. The Hotate was the real highlight. It was absolutely the best I've ever tasted. Sweet, flavorful, and wonderfully fresh. None of that "fishy" taste. The specialty rolls are a little pricy, and the draft beer selection is very limited. However, overall this place is worth a stop if you haven't been or are just craving a bit of good sushi. read more
