For a pizza I went with an arrabiata, which was basically a cheese pizza with calabrian chili and a little extra cheese. It was quite indulgent, and also garlicky, with a nice charred crust that flopped in the hand and was a bit damp towards the center (generally a marker of quality). I enjoyed it enough that I didn't wish I was somewhere else, which in Asheville is saying something, and I liked the innovation on the menu. And surprisingly, I can't recall having been to any other high-end Neapolitan-ish pizzas in Asheville, so maybe this is the one that will stick.

They come in single 5" by 7" rectangles (spuntino, $8-$10), 5" by 13" pies (mezzo, $15-$19), or 9" x 13" party size portions (tutto, $30-$38). While you can build your own custom pizza, the default options include a Calabrian with pepper jam, a funghi & charred tomato, a sfincione with breadcrumb topping, a patate with potato cream, and a rotating special. A few dips, an arugula salad, cauliflower cacio pepe, and meatballs are also available. Wanting a few slices to commemorate Pi Day, my wife and I shared a Calabrian, a funghi & charred tomato, and a daily special. Ordering was easy, and Terra Nova's "green industrial" vibe (check out that moss wall) made for interesting ambiance. Our pizza was not cheap, but it was very satisfying, and Mission uses high-quality ingredients. The Calabrian offered a good combination of sweet and spicy while the funghi & charred tomato delivered creamy (ricotta) and smoky. The crust was done perfectly: crisp without being overly charred. There are many places in Asheville where you can grab a pizza and a beer, but none can offer you the same experience that Mission does. They have inside and outside seating although I am not sure if the patio was open while I was there. Personal sized pizzas were all gluten free so to get regular crust I had to order by the slice. Next time I will just order a large. Ordering by the slice is a nice option as you can try a few different types of pizza. I got to try the Hawaiian and the White. Both were delicious. Beverages were just cans or bottled water as water wasn't potable when I was there. I'm sure there are more options now as Asheville water is now drinkable. She mentioned wanting to eat at this restaurant but OpenTable indicated there was no availability for the evening she was hoping to dine. I signed up for notifications and after some tables became available and were quickly booked, I called to see if they had room for a table for one. I explained the situation and the girl I spoke to was easily able to accommodate my mother. A gentleman then helped take my credit card information so I could cover the bill and even offered to write a card that would be handed to my mother in lieu of the check. The morning of the reservation, I spoke to same woman who made the reservation and she asked me questions about my mom's like and interests so they could make the evening special to her. When my mom arrived for dinner that evening, there were flowers at the table along with a customized menu in her favorite color. The staff also left a card wishing her a happy birthday. She was brought a complimentary glass of champagne and ordered the beef carpaccio to start. For the main course, my mother was between the caramelle or rigatoni. The waiter spoke to the chef and they were able to bring her a small portion of each dish so she could try them both. The entrees were perfectly sized, flavorful, and helped satisfy both of her cravings. She was then brought tiramisu with pistachio ice cream for dessert with the card that was written on my behalf. Throughout the evening, my mom shared that multiple staff members came over to check in, chat, and wish her happy birthday. Overall, my mom loved everything about this restaurant and had a wonderful evening. I am so grateful to all of the staff who went above and beyond to make her evening special.
