The atmosphere was absolutely great. The only downside was our server who wasn't very friendly or attentive to little things at most servers are. Having gone in the past and gotten an exceptional service, it might have been a bad night for her, so we'll take exception to that. Anyway, I will be returning because I really enjoy their food, the largeness of the restaurant, and the waterfall ambience.

The dining in experience was a Monday lunch and very quiet while the takeout was a Sunday evening and much busier. The collards were well seasoned, the cornbread was huge, the slaw was slaw (though nothing to write home about, it's hard to make slaw that's worth writing about), and the chicken was well breaded, not overcooked, and still kinda crunchy despite its steam bath. I might have had the southern fried chicken plate the first time too, come to think of it... it's just impossible to find well done Southern food in the west, so I can't pass it up! The patio has nice seating options including a couple coveted tables in the shade. They are all pretty huge picnic tables so you may end up sharing if it's busy, but that's kinda the vibe here. There are dog water bowls and ice water for the pups in the summertime. Regarding vibes, it's right up my alley with servers rocking hairy armpits and tattoos all over the place. Like many cafés in Asheville, it's a self-bussing establishment, so guests return their own dishes after eating. The cafe is charming, with plenty of both indoor and outdoor seating. The staff were warm, welcoming, and food was very good. We ordered drinks which was okay...next time I'll opt for water. Luckily, the Buddha Bowl and the breakfast sandwich served on a perfectly baked biscuit, and both were fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. I even bought their after-meal herbal tonic a try--not sure if it worked, but like to try it to give my stomach more energy and room to eat!!!

I loved the open air concept of this place. My food was delicious, however, my sister's partner ordered the same and his sandwich was much smaller than mine - definitely not consistent there. My husband liked the GF pancakes (he doesn't have a sensitivity, he just likes pancakes and they only serve GF). He was not a huge fan of the added cinnamon. They had a great beverage selection!
