Despite its modest size, the shop boasts a huge variety of magazines and newspapers for its customers. From motorbikes, wrestling and bodybuilding, to gardening, tattoos and fishing, Morgan's has all the bases covered and offers something for all hobbies and tastes. Whether you feeling lucky and are need of a lottery ticket or if you're after a comic or bag of sweets to keep the kids happy, there will always be something to catch your eye inside this well-known venue. Morgan's is a true, old-school newsagents that is a rarity these days, with most newsagents falling by the wayside due to the success and expansion of chain stores like WH Smiths. But for sheer variety and selection right on your doorstep, Morgan's is top of the list.

Where does one start? Well I spotted Welsh costumes for children/ladies, Welsh dolls, Welsh confectionery, Welsh cards, Welsh books and a whole raft of Welsh novelty goods. I particularly liked the Welsh stencils which can be used if you're adept at face painting on International days!!. The shop also had a good seleciton of Welsh translations of childrens' books I spotted a Welsh horrid history and a Welsh version of Artemis Fowl. There was also a range of books for Welsh learners as well as some general books about famous Welsh characters and some books about the history of Wales. The shop also has a web site of the same name which has an even larger range of products. The owner told me they have customers from all over the world seeking to have a little piece of Wales wherever they may be!

Jets is a shop at the top of Caerphilly town that specialises in models. Not the models you see in…read moremagazines unfortunately, but the kind that you build and put together from scratch. Slightly less enthralling I must admit, but still, it has its niche. While they do sell a good and wide variety of these models, ranging from trains to planes to automobiles, the reason I remember this shop so well is that when I was a young teenager, they used to sell the most awesome BB guns. Not that I'm some kind of gun nut or anything, but at the time all of my mates had one and I caved to peer pressure as is normally the case, and as such, I needed to get my hands on one. In Jets, I'd hit the mother load; BB machine guns, BB shotguns, BB everything: targets, sights, ammo, they had the lot. Sadly, on a lowly teenager's wage I could only afford the cheapest one they had, but at least I managed to get one. Looking back, supplying a teenage boy with an air pistol might not have been the safest thing to do on their part and probably broke every health and safety protocol known to man. But damn it, they managed to put a temporary smile on my spotty teenage face and that's good enough justification for me. Good job, Jets!
