The jerk chicken, the oxtail, the curry shrimp, the curry goat, the chicken roti, the curry chicken, the pineapple cornbread and the rice and peas and cabbage was simply delicious. The Ambiance was delightful and on such a perfect summer day. The service was exquisite and family like. My party of 7 even got to meet the Owner Mrs. Marilyn who is beautiful inside and out. We paid compliments to the chef who prepared the food with Joy and Love. Thank you to the hospitable male who served us graciously. We had a delightful time and will be coming there more often for a home cooked southern meal and great time. Blessings always, Noelle Manning

I was in NY for a few days and my friend picked this spot. I didn't think to check the reviews…read more Sisters is a small restaurant and is good for small groups. The vibe is casual. I had the Curry Goat Roti (Paratha) and a Sorrel. I grew up eating Trini food, so I'm a bit of a food snob when it comes to roti. This one missed the mark. Paratha should be soft, tender, and light. And it should taste rich and buttery. What I was served was kinda dry, borderline crunchy, and lacked flavor. I know that not everyone makes great roti, so I just tried to make the best of it. The curry goat was pretty good. But for the life of me, I couldn't understand why I kept tasting something sweet. Then my friend told me that they put candied yams on it. Not only is that weird, the yams and the goat roti don't even compliment each other. I picked out the candied yams and ate the rest of the food. Next up was the sorrel. I've been drinking sorrel all my life and this one tasted odd. I know that each country puts their little twist on sorrel......but this one tasted very different from anything I've ever had. As far as the service, other than taking our order and bringing the food, we didn't get any service. I don't know if that's their norm, but that was our experience. I'm all for fusion food when it's done well. Tatiana @ Lincoln Center is an example of that. Sisters is not it.

Basically Birria-Landia's Upper East Side cousin, which is not a bad thing. If you like…read moreBirria-Landia, the more well-known and widespread birria truck family, you'll probably like Casa Birria too. And if you haven't had Birria-Landia or birria in general, well, you'll probably still like them! Casa Birria is a simple food truck with a simple menu of just a few items. I noticed they have a few meat options but assuming you eat beef, you of course have to get the birria (slow-cooked beef in a slightly spicy and indulgent broth). It comes in multiple vehicles which are all basically some configuration of tortilla, onions, cilantro, meat, and sometimes cheese depending on what you pick. The taco is the classic and the $12 taco combo is a nice deal, though as a smaller eater and cheese-lover, I personally go for a couple of mulitas. Juicy meat with a bit of heat, melty cheese, and legit corn tortillas soaked in that delicious broth, what's not to love? The truck is open pretty late, has fast straightforward service, and like any truck does not have seating so you have to either eat on the sidewalk or have a place in mind to bring it; there is a park a few blocks up. Definitely cheaper than most meals in this part of the city and I'd be a regular if I lived close by!

Okay so ignore this spot I couldn't find the place I went to on yelp but I do know it is in Harlem…read moreby 125 street across from a bank a few blocks from the 4,5 and 6 train. The Lexington one I believe. Anyways... I ordered the absolute most exquisite dish that can come in a styrofoam container. When i say that this dish brought tears to my eyes I mean it. I sat on the 6 train devouring this meal while I knew all the people next to me were looking at me like I'm a savage. This meal had spicy rice but on top of the spicy rice on the left side was lamb that was cooked with so much love. Now I looked to the middle of my styrofoam takeout container and I had salad with tomatoes sitting there so beautifully. Finally I looked to the right of my container I had shrimp that tasted like the best shrimp I ever had besides when I went to Cuban petes with my girlfriend a few months back but that's a different story. This meal was topped with such savory white sauce along with a very tasty hot sauce all for the amazing price of $10. And guess what my guy threw in a soda to go with it. A cold Hawaiian Punch for these really hot summer days we are having.

*Clarification : This is for the new, yellow Uncle Luoyang food truck…read more It pains me to write a poor review for Uncle Luoyang, especially since it was one of the first of the Chinese food trucks to bring palatable, cheap food to campus. I've been to the original truck several times and the owner has always been kind and fast. So, when I noticed that Uncle Luoyang had a newer, snazzier truck, I was excited and happy for the owner. And when I noticed that the line was far shorter than the ones for the other trucks, I was excited for me. Perhaps that should've been my first clue that the new truck was not as good as the decor would make it seem. When I ordered in English, it took a few confusing minutes before the woman understood my order. This isn't surprising or too much of a negative, but I just thought I'd mention for those who can't speak Mandarin. I ordered my usual, the pork burger. It took less than the time for me to pull out my wallet for the food to be ready. Rather than coming in the wax paper envelope Uncle Luoyang and neighboring trucks have used in the past, it came wrapped up in foil. The "burger" seemed painfully thin and I became a little suspicious that the fancy new digs meant a decrease in portion of offset business costs. When I opened up the foil, these suspicions were not only verified, but were exceeded in appalling levels. The bun had less than a quarter of the portion of meat I had received from the old truck. There was not even enough pork to cover all of the bun in a single layer. The pork itself was deliciously flavored, but lacking the wonderfully unctuous fatty portions that lend moisture to the burger. As a result, the burger fell flat and left my mouth dry from too much bun. The only plus side is that if you're looking for bread, it seems the bun is thicker than ever. Just don't order the pork burger expecting any pork.

I will also explain its menu in details in this update for those who have language barriers when communicating with the owner. The prices listed in its truck pictures are not entirely accurate. For skewers ($1 each), you have the choice of: - chicken - beef - lamb He will ask you if you want "spice" added to your skewers for extra flavor. The wait time is about 2 -3 minutes if there is no line. 2. "Lunch special" is often available from noon until 3 or 4pm. $5. This is served immediately and no wait time. You have the choices of - chicken (with winter melon, carrot, vermicelli) over rice - beef (with winter melon, carrot, vermicelli) over rice - eggs and tomatoes over rice Again, your choice of adding "spice" to the food. This is a pretty good deal. Note: the menu may say it has potatoes in the rice dish, but that is not true. 3. Noodles ($5), again two choices: - hot noodles (a typical traditional Chinese home-made noodles) - cold skin noodles (the dish comes with a small bag of hot sauce for flavor) 4. Pork burger, $3. This is really good. About 3 - 5 minutes wait time if no line. 5. Chicken fries: I think this is similar to Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken, but I have never tried to it so I can't comment on this. These 5 items listed above are available daily. There are some other items such as dumplings, hot & sour soup (listed as hot & spicy soup), and Xi'an Hu La Tang Soup (listed as Spicy soup) may not be available every day. You are better off to choose any of the items from the list above. Of course, this place is cash only.
