I knew Whitworth when it was a college. And as I've meant to share a review of the school for a long time, here: the grounds were dilapidated, except for where families and funders get first views. The real inferiority, however, was in the simply horrid teaching staff. The ecology department was remarkably good: especially by comparison. The ode--of the 5 awful teachers I recall to this day--- the ode I really wish to make was the history professor, an expert in the Civil War, named Dr HC: who apparently didn't like the fact I knew who the most powerful US Senators were, historically. He took the chance one day at break to praise a student a few seats away from me: intoning "what a great student you are, compared to... " he waved in my direction "these others." And thus ended my expectations of enjoying his class or getting a fair grade. I transferred to WWU, where I majored in history, loved my profs and was a scholar nominee. He wasn't the only nasty pygmy there. My dad summed it up well: "They obviously value tuition above truth." read more
