So happy Whittaker's Berry Farm remained unscaved following the recent weather system / tornadoes that came through the area in the last couple of days. I took off work just so I could arrive at the farm just after opening today and there were many people picking strawberries only 10 - 15 minutes after opening. You pick strawberries at $2.99/lb - how can you go wrong? It took me about 35 - 45 minutes to fill my flat. Strawberries were plentiful. I must have been in the area of the parcel that had been picked before as the size of the berries seemed smaller than what I had hoped for. My thoughts were confirmed when I was at the checkout building as the gentlemen in the line next to me had huge Jewel strawberries that were gigantic compared to what I was able to pick. Oh well, these berries will taste just fine in a pie, on shortcake, over ice cream or cheesecake, in bread, muffins, or scones, just to name a few. read more

It was so worth it to find this farm and have our toddler have a blast picking strawberries. We came on the last day and went home with a full box of strawberries. Not all were huge but all were in good shape. It was pretty straightforward to find the location and the path was well-organized with signages. There were people in different locations guiding us where to go and what to do etc. read more

Growing up, I was always called the Strawberry Girl. My dad would sit me in our strawberry patch while he went into our field to bail straw. Since selling our farm years ago, I've been wanting to go strawberry picking. My sisters surprised me for my birthday by taking me to Whittaker's Berry Farm! We picked All-Star strawberries and I was in heaven! Mr. Whittaker was present the entire time we were out there and encouraged us to taste-test them as we were picking. We spotted him many times riding his gator around offering water to guests (it was the first day of summer and so, so hot!) He seemed to really care about his employees as well. After we were done picking, he stopped and took the time to give advice to my sister who has a slug problem in her own garden--he was the most sweet and pleasant guy! As far as price goes, they are VERY reasonable for the quality of berries. Also, we arrived at 9:30am and saw a lot of cars and thought to ourselves, "Dang, I bet we missed boat. We probably will have to come back tomorrow." But luckily, Mr. Whittaker's farm is so large that we didn't have any wait time at all. I would absolutely recommend to everyone, even my grandma! p.s. It's only open for about 3 weeks in June but do try to make it here to get fresh strawberries picked by YOU! The Lake Erie basin is home to some of Michigan's best fruit farms and has the ideal terrain and soil for scrumptious (though small) little strawberry flavor bombs! It is truly that taste of your chilhood that you can't get from California or Florida corporate farm berries at the grocery store! Get enough to freeze for the whole year. Warning: it's a bit tough to get up after squatting on your knees pickin berries for an hour or so, so be ready for one of those ungraceful rise-ups when you're done. Also- wear old clothes and bring sunscreen! Bug quotient is very low. Terrific for kids and they don't mind em eating a few while the grown-ups are picking. read more

Love this place! I've been going here for the u-pick strawberries for a couple years now and I always have had a great experience. The farm seems family ran and I love that atmosphere, and the family is very nice! The field has straw/hay down where you kneel to pick your berries so you don't make too much of a mess, and they have a good system to ensure that each customer will have their own row of berries that haven't been picked over. Also, and I have never had a problem with bugs. I would recommend wearing sunscreen and some clothes you wouldn't mind getting a little berry juice on! The berries are tasty and affordable! Concept is simple - drive to Whittaker's, they hand you a container, head back to the berry fields, and start picking. Drive back when finished, they weigh your container and charge you $1.25/lb for some of the most delicious strawberries you'll ever taste. Some other bits of info: each person or group gets their own row to pick from, so no one is fighting over berries. Everyone gets a fair shot at gorgeous berries. They encourage kids to come, too - this is an important point as some farms ask that children not be included in this activity. Finally, they don't mind if you eat a few berries as you pick. Nothing is better than a warm, juicy strawberry freshly picked. We left Whittaker's this morning with 25 lbs of strawberries and our hands and shirts covered in strawberry juice. First time coming to this farm this year, the set up is nice, but you're only allowed to pick from one area. The line they put us in didnt really have great berries on it. But the experience of strawberry picking was fun. read more
