I came here to volunteer, and to my surprise, there were even younger kids participating. I learned that the minimum volunteer age is 10 years old. Some students were volunteering for school service hours, while others came through different companies and organizations. We joined the second shift from 1pm-4pm. The session started shortly after 1pm with a briefing and task assignments from the group leader. All tasks were explained clearly. The leaders checked on us throughout the shift to make sure we were doing okay and to see if anyone had concerns. Halfway through the shift, we had a 15-minute break, and one of the leaders brought ice cream to celebrate a volunteer's birthday and shared it with everyone. I thought it was a meaningful way to celebrate a birthday while helping a good cause. We actually finished around 3:30pm, and our shift completed: - 5,451 lbs of food packed - 474 boxes prepared for the "No Student Goes Hungry" program supporting students from elementary school through college in Sacramento County. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating, and the facility was clean and organized. Restroom: clean, bright, and decent. Within all of this stuff, was a bunch of new and lightly used clothing. In the past I have donated clothing to my local Goodwill Express. However, I did some reflection and realized that all of the clothing that I donated was being sold for profit. Going forward, my intention was to donate to an organization that receives the donation(s) and distributes them to underprivileged individuals/families free of charge. Some research led me to the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services. Upon calling to verify their hours (Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, 10am-1pm and Wednesday, 4pm-7pm), I gathered all of the clothing and hit the road on a mission to make a difference. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a Sacramento Food Bank employee who eagerly began to load my clothing donations onto a cart. Since a lot of the clothing consisted of dress pants and dress slacks, he proceeded to inform me about a program called "Job Smart Clothing." Job Smart Clothing is a program within Sacramento Food Bank that provides career appropriate apparel for underprivileged individuals interviewing for employment or currently employed. How cool is that? I'm not a representative for Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services. However, I will say that they provide an awesome service to the community, and that a little donation goes a long way (individuals who benefit from their services often leave with 15-20 pieces of clothing per visit). Before you throw away that piece of clothing that you think is out of style or doesn't quite hug your curves the way that they used to, think about donating it to the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services!

However......we found out after waiting around that the face painting wasn't coming, the petting animals never showed and Snowie King wasn't open. Big bummer! It's like a thrift store for crafts. Most items are used and in good condition. We saw all kinds of yarn, wood, stamps, sewing supplies, and even birthday and Christmas items. Everything has is in it's own section but does take some time to look around, if you want something specific. As for the crafting area, it cost about $8 for 1 hour of crafting. They had tons of recycled items available for crafting. It did take us a bit to look around and decide on something to create. But once we did, we found lots of things to use. They did have glue guns to use but I didn't see paints, or sharp things for cutting. They also offer birthday parties in their crafting area. ReCreate is a crafters dream but an organizers fever dream. It can be a little hard to look but it's best to just take your time and enjoy the walk around.

The entire place was Christmas merchandise except for the back room which had cooking stuff in it. This is the room I found a beautiful collectible cookbook set for $25 and it now rests in my kitchen on display. All the other products we saw seemed to be fairly affordable and cheap, only problem is that my mom and I really don't go thrifting to find Christmas stuff. There were no clothes, furniture, tech, shoes, art, or fun trinkets and weird stuff. We were in and out very quickly. We will be back in the future to see what the store is normally like, as we assume it was only like that due to being right before Christmas. Staff was friendly, building was clean, and they managed to fit a decent amount of stuff inside. It doesn't seem like a place I would drive half an hour to, but if this is your local thrift then it seems nice. Definitely will be back soon to see what it's like outside of the holidays.

ThereThere were many volunteers on the floor, almost too many! Staff were pleasant and the shop was well curated. It's one of the few thrift shops I've been to where they have no clothes for sale. But, they make up for it with a great selection of home goods and they had an abundance of holiday items for sale. I found their prices to be extremely reasonable and they offer discount tags to reduce the prices even further for some items. Parking was pretty easy and I scored a small artificial tree with lights at a good price.

First the place is quiet, clean, and every one I met was super nice. Second they don't make you feel like some other not for profits, you know like they are doing you a favor so you better be happy with what ever you get... No, not here. I actuality genuinely felt like these wanted to help people. A great feeling. The resources here are impressive. I couldn't believe that they cost little to no money out of pocket. Of course the over draw back with anything of this type is the amount of people in need and the a ability to support that need. So for some services, very few I have to add, there is a waiting list. It's not as big as the other one was which was disappointing, but oh well. It's a small thrift store that had a lot of various pieces here. A small book section, clothes, a few pieces of furniture, etc etc. The best part is that the sales go towards the SPCA, so you can feel good about helping animals while finding something for cheap. They even had a back room with some pet furniture too! Prices were pretty cheap too! There were some things that were being charged more than what they're worth, but that's always the case at a second hand store. The majority was a great deal which is what matters the most. Staff was friendly and made up entirely of volunteers. They were happy to talk to us whenever we had questions about an item, but otherwise were pretty hands off in terms of letting us shop, which I appreciated. It's not the best thrift store I've ever been to, but it's far from the worst too. Check them out if you've got time, it's easy to get in and out of quickly too.

No wonder we have such an influx of pets that don't get adopted. My son and his wife lost their kitty and they went there just to visit and give some kitties some attention to help get over their grief. You have to have an appt to give these poor animals attention? This is the most ridiculous and sad thing I've ever heard. It is cruel. Also why would I make an appt to see only one pet when I may not be compatible with that pet. I Would want to see several until I find one that is compatible.

Many adopters can vouch that when they take their adoptee home, their new animal comes off of the medications and starts to become crazy etc. This was not the same dog you met at the shelter, right? Because they are all overloaded on medication. This is supposed to be nonprofit, but they adopt their animals out on insane prices. $500 for an adult dog, crazy much? You have to make an appointment to even be able to see a dog, if slots are booked out for the day Goodluck getting that dog you came so early for. Facility is really clean and maintained. Dogs are always sleepy due to the insane number of medications they are given, so the facility is fairly quiet. They seem to have a low number of euthanasia, which is another great thing. The new building they built has made the parking lot to only have about 10 spots. Now you have to find street parking. Sometimes people just want to come look at dogs too, front staff are very adamant about why you are there for.
