Set down an idyllic country lane, adjacent to the local cricket club is Whitfield House, probably the nicest bed and breakfast we have ever stayed in. A gravelled drive leads you to the front of the house, which is surrounded by mature trees and we were greeted on arrival by the owner's friendly dog 'Rodney Rocket'! After a very welcome cup of tea and piece of cake, the owner talked us through some of the best places to visit or to eat in the area, like the Ludlow Food Centre and the Jolly Frog restaurant; both of which we tried and were well worthy of their recommendation.
Our room, the 'Lawrence Room' was quite sizeable, with a separate toilet and bathroom, with a cavernous bath, and the sun-soaked main room, had a feeling of space and a comfortable king size bed. Of course, not forgetting the amazing views, over into the landscaped tiered garden, the rolling fields beyond and Ludlow Castle in the distance. A decent sized TV and a good selection of tea and coffee too.
Breakfast was served in an equally impressive room, with wood panel walls and well spaced tables. A great variety of fruit, cereals and fruit juices to start, and then a great Full English Breakfast, making full use of local produce, one of the nicest I've had for some time; the scrambled eggs were particularly fine! The owners and staff were friendly and helpful, and the walk into the centre of Ludlow was just right, at about 10 minutes.
Whitfield House is a such a peaceful and restful place to escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life; waking up to just the sound of the birds in the morning was fantastic. read more
