I really love meat. Except for when I'm pregnant, then for some reason I can only stomach steak and sausage. Weird. So I've been coming here to buy all my meat because I know the filet mignon is and always will be on point, the sausage and hot dogs are so damn good, and the rib-eyes never lets me down. I also always buy prime rib for the holidays from here, and it always get rave reviews. Thank god for this meat market! I'd be so iron deficient without it. read more

I have heard about this place for years. I finally made the trip out to see what all the fuss was about and I have to say, I am impressed. First of all, the place was packed. Despite the crowd, the crew kept everything moving right along and I did not have to wait more than a couple of minutes. I purchased some ground sausage and tenderloin steaks. The quality of the meat was way above average~ approaching excellent even~ AND the prices are less than I have paid at a regular grocery store. I will be back again and again and again. read more

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Just came in from the field with our game that was taken in a monsoon type rain storm in the evening hunt - so our meat had some pine needles and dirt on it - unusual for us but such were the circumstances. We chose Whites as our butcher as per great reviews - and drove 2.5 hours to bring the meat. The employee ( said he was manager) refused to take the deer! No solution such as a cleaning fee which we were very prepared to pay - he told us to clean it or take it somewhere else. Okay then. We called Gartners on Killingsworth in Portland and the cheerful staff there said "bring it in - no problem - we will clean it for you!" The Whites meat people could not have cared less about us a customer. Too big for customer service? His last words were a careless "bah by! Have a great day". Our family of hunters will not be using whites meat market. read more

I have been going to Whites for many many years and have always had a great experience. This place has a small town feel and smells amazing. I have yet to be disappointed with anything I have ever had. If you haven't ever tried it jump in your car drive across town and grab a number. read more

We've been buying all of our meat at White's now for about a year. Their thick cut bacon is fantastic and we've gotten good steaks, burgers, hot dogs, roasts and lamb there as well. Twice now, though, we have brought chicken home on a Saturday only to discover that on Monday, it was rotten. We live a mile down the road and put it in the refrigerator as soon as we get home. Tonight, my husband opened it and immediately the kitchen smelled of rotten eggs. He jumped in the car and drove back to White's to talk to a manager before they closed for the evening. The manager didn't smell the chicken but mentioned it was perfectly normal for chicken to "offgas" and offered us a replacement 3lbs. We know that raw meat shouldn't have a bad smell to it and if chicken smells like eggs it is likely it has been contaminated with salmonella. We expected better from White's and will be looking for a better source for our meat from now on. read more

The variety of meat here is great! The staff is super friendly and always willing to help. I visited on a Monday evening and there was no line at all. There were about 6 people working though and all of them eager to help. The prices are not bad at all, I just wish I had a big enough freezer to get one of their bundle deals! read more

I LOVE this place, every time I visit my sister I have to visit Whites. Best meats I've ever had (the beef the bacon the beef ) need I say more. I have yet to be disappointed. Dont buy their bulk meats unless you like a lot of fat from both the beef and pork. I know that some can utilize the fatty meats but I couldnt. The majority of meats i bought I feed to my dog. Dont get me wrong. Whites sells quality meats, which i will buy but never again their bulk frozen. My dog loves it though. read more

Satisfied Customer I have always been intimated when I walk into a meat store!!! There are so many items to choose from and the employees are so quick to jump! Supposed to be a good thing, right?? Intimidating if you ask an indecisive customer. I typically go on Saturday's and let me tell you. The place is crowded, pull a number as soon as you walk in. It looks like it would take you three hours before your number is called, but in reality you may wait 2-3 minutes. You get customized service and no matter how busy they are, they are staffed and each employee takes "their" time with you, the customer! If they are out of something, just ask....they will get if for you! Parking is great, customer service is wonderful, and if you ask for ideas or recipes they will put a sticker on your package. :) Thanks White's Meat! read more

I just need to throw in my 2 cents along with everyone else. I live in Vancouver and I have no reason to visit Gresham (except for the occasional visit to M & M restaurant, but that's another review), but I still take the 40 mile round trip ride at least once a month. Does that tell you how much I love the place? My MUST buys every month are the bacon ends & pieces, the country bacon, and the Dijon chicken breasts. After that, I often buy the double thick stuffed pork chops, the chorizo, the stuffed chicken breasts, filet mignons wrapped in bacon and baby back pork ribs. I'm also a fan of the green chili & cheese stuffed chicken breasts but they are plenty big and one easily makes a meal for two (and I'm a really big eater). Also, I'm afraid I don't leave without some seafood too. The U-9 shrimps are like they are farmed near the Hanford plant in the tri-cities (they're unnaturally big but so tasty) and scallops I've bought there are just as incredible. I guess from the other reviews they occasionally miss packaging or don't necessarily make the perfect cutting job, but honestly, neither has happened to me and I've been a regular for several years. And this past Christmas I gave out packages of bacon ends and pieces to friends. Everyone that got one called later to ask for the name of the place again, so obviously they are doing something right. So although they are great for anything, if you especially need quality meats or seafood for that special occasion, this is definitely the place to go. Only advice I would give is try not going on the weekends. They get swamped. And although they have several people working the counter at once, sometimes its just not enough and the wait can be long. I tend to go midweek and there is usually a wait, but its not very long and the staff try to get you in and out quickly. The butchers and sales staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. For the second time I was overcharged. First time was $60. The last time was $36. I don't feel that I can trust the staff, as they use calculators without tape. They usually write all prices on one package, but this last time they put individual price on each. I even questioned the girl behind the counter, but she was sure it was added correctly. With no proof of total items, I called. Guy who answered simply said 'what would you like us to do?' Attitude was really bad. Told me I could come in and talk to someone and they would give me extra next time. Never even bothered to ask my name. Over the years I've spent several thousand dollars there. I know they won't miss my business, but won't ever go back. Not even for the money they owe me. I am so disappointed after being a customer there for 5 years. read more

I had always heard how great White's meats was. So I went in on Valentines Day and purchased boneless Ribeye Steaks for me and my wife. The cost was $13 per pound. With great anticipation I gave them a dry rub and BBQ'd them perfectly. But when we bit into them we were sorely disappointed! They were tough, had pieces of gristle, and had no flavor whatsoever! It seems they have been living on reputation alone. A $10 per pound Costco ribeye is vastly superior in all regards. Never again will I pay this price for inferior meat. read more

So I love me some White's. I live just down the road and go there alot. HOWEVER I need to gripe about it today. Was looking for a brisket for a special recipe I love, so we went to White's. $8.98/lb for what is definitely not the best cut of beef. $65 later and we are sitting here kicking ourselves because we could have gotten a whole beef tenderloin (8 lbs worth) for $49 bucks at another butcher who was out of brisket (their brisket was $4.65/lb.) The girl there said "oh yea because it's popular for BBQ." Sorry but when you can feed 10 people on filet mignon cheaper than brisket something is very wrong. Ripping people off because something is "popular" is lame. Not sure if I'll be back. read more

Their meat and their service tend to be very good. But sometimes their service is not. Sometimes they call the service numbers for next buyer but not always. In fact, much of the time when I am there, they do not. Bottom line, always take a number when you enter. Else you will wait along time. read more

Haven't had any bad experience buying meat at White's. But, my problem that really gets to me is when I took my deer in to be butchered. The freezer was full (which is great!) gave me confidence they'd do a good job butchering my deer. Took about three weeks to get my meat back. Which wasn't a huge deal. But, when I did get it back and opened up some steak to grill, I noticed my meat still had some muscle in it. Again not a huge deal. What REALLY got to me was the fact that it took three weeks to get my meat back AND it still had a bunch of hair on the steaks. One would think that if it takes awhile to get your meat back, the butcher would at least clean the meat up. This was my first time ever using a butcher to cut my deer up. My uncle had his deer done in Baker City and they did a wonderful job butchering it. Do not think i'll ever use White's to butcher my animals ever again. read more
