Ok I'm just going to leave this right here. When I was a young man a had a chance to spend time in the country working and living with Good People and they treated me with kindness and Love. I always appreciated the time around the dinner table and the wonderful food prepared by a lady whom I considered my second mother. This morning I had a breakfast served to me that brought tears to my eyes as it was prepared in the " country way" and if you don't know what that means then maybe you have missed out. So I will simply say this beautiful Sunday Morning God granted me the opportunity to experience that moment again at this beautiful little place in the country. Fresh Eggs with dark Yellow Yolk and that sprinkle of cracked pepper, pan Sausage pressed on the grill with that crispy edge, pancakes that fill a separate plate, and the creamiest grits that I have ever tasted. Not sure who the angel is in the back who prepared this heaven sent meal to me this morning but she will remain in my prayers. This may not make sense to many but to those who understand, You Know.

Swiss Mushroom Burger and delicious fries

After a great visit to Washington-on-the-Brazos Historical Park we were hot and hungry so I found this spot through Yelp. The place is located in a rural setting, which we enjoy. When you walk in there is a table with the menus. You pick one up and find a place to sit. Orders are done at the counter. After we had a chance to study the menu we then went to place and pay for our food. The iced tea tasted old. I went and got iced water to dilute mine but the others had a hard time drinking theirs, one even went and got a Dr pepper instead. Food came out, about 20 minutes later. So worth the wait. Before I mention the food items the BEST FRENCH FRIES EVER. And that's from everyone at our table, ages 5 to 65. My DH had the Rueben Sandwich which was filled high with corned beef and a very generous portion of sauerkraut. He's eaten quite a few and said this was one of the best. I had the mushroom swiss burger. It was tasty. The others enjoyed their meal, with no complaints. The 5 YO said it was the best macaroni and cheese and his mom agreed. Overall, a good experience and good food. Only negative for me was there was a cat in the cafe that roamed from table to table and being highly allergic to cats was keeping a close eye on it.

Just had the best breakfast at Whitehall cafe The veggie omelette was so good and the grits were the best I've ever eaten. Service is great and everyone was so friendly. What a great spot for breakfast or lunch! The restaurant was very nice and clean with really yummy food. Must try!

Red Board is BACK!!!…read more When it originally opened, Red Board was our favorite local restaurant. Then Chef Craig headed to greener pastures and the food quality suffered. And after two date night dinners with crappy food, we quit going there. I am SO very happy to say, RED BOARD IS BACK! It was Lee's turn to choose the location for tonight's date night dinner, and I was a bit dismayed when he said we had reservations at Red Board. He assured me that there is a new chef, so I was grudgingly willing to give it a try. I had the red snapper with mango salsa, garlic mashed potatoes and jalapeño creamed corn. The mango salsa had a bit of a kick. The jalapeño creamed corn was luscious and had an even stronger kick! What's not to love? Lee had the chicken fried steak, jalapeño creamed corn and onion rings. He liked the steak, and commented that he was happy the corn wasn't swimming in cream. I stole some of his onion rings, and they are dynamite. Super crispy and oniony. I'm so happy we went there tonight. We will be back frequently if Chef Chris' food stays as good as it was tonight. Service there has always been great; that was never an issue. Kylie's service tonight was impeccable. And the food was every bit as yummy as anyone could hope. Thank you Chef Chris. You are AWESOME! And don't you even THINK about leaving Navasota!

We ordered 2 things off the food menu and waited an hour!! After 40 minutes , we asked the barista about our order, she checks on our order and tells us "10 minutes". She has no care in the world and she looked at me like I was bothering her. Well those 10 minutes turned into 20 minutes. We get up to check on our order for the 2nd time and they ask us, "what did you order"? Smh!!! They bag it up and we take it to go. We also ordered tea w / a SPLASH of lemonade and they give us 50/50 so now it's way too sweet. Our coffee was too creamy and even after TWO shots , still not strong enough. I work in a kitchen too so I understand, BUT the wait was ridiculous for it not being busy.. Look at the chickens wrap I was given after waiting for an hour. So lame!! The baristas need better training and so does BOH, They just simply have "I don't care" attitudes. I travel a lot between Houston and Austin plus am a faithful renfest goer and we will never stop here again. The place is cool doe , I think you can buy the vinyls that are by the restroom? Anyway what a shame, this place could be better

We had a group of 8 adults who had just completed touring 2 of the Painted Churches, in and around Schulenburg. While our tour guide greeted several servers as we entered like old friends, I don't think that was the cause of their friendliness to our group as a whole, I saw them happily greeting everyone and providing excellent service. Our happy server quickly took drink orders, you can tell when a server is confident in her job and knows the routines as she never wrote anything down but when she returned with drinks, the orders were all correct. She then took orders for lunch, we had a variety of offerings from the menu. I decided on the Tzatziki Salad, a nicely presented Greek style salad with grilled chicken breast slices and some tzatziki with pita points. Others around me had the Rueben and the grilled chicken salad and said everything was perfect. I also heard great things about the home made chicken salad and their hamburgers. And if you feel like your garden needs a bit more color, just step into the garden center after lunch and pick out some lovely plants to take home!

I was pleasantly surprised at the absolutely amazing freshness and quality of the food and modern/light atmosphere of this place (a bit unexpected after a few lackluster food experiences in Schulenberg leading up to our lunch here). It was every bit at good as some of the cafes I've eaten in major cities (where there is heavy dining competition). Mom and I both ordered their delicious chicken salad sandwich, piled high (but not too thickly) with shredded chicken on perfectly baked, flaky (but not too flaky) croissant bread. The chicken salad was a perfect blend of seasonings with a few cranberries for a little sweetness. Divine! Each sandwich came with a side of crispy/perfect (seemingly handmade) chips. Our tour guide ordered a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich which she seemed to really enjoy as well, complete with perfectly buttered and crisp grilled sourdough bread. The atmosphere was very modern and new yet warm and dotted with beautiful antique pieces (be sure to check out the old buffet across from the bathroom doors, gorgeous!). And this place seemed packed with many locals in their brunch attire to enjoy the great food and great hospitality of the wait staff. Behind the restaurant, they also host a beautiful nursery where you can browse under the trees through their fairly extensive collection of plants (flowering and non flowering - we saw some variations of native flowering plants we've either never seen before or don't see often so my mom purchased a few for her garden!), chat with the very knowledgeable and friendly owner of the nursery, browse the little nursery gift shop full of unique and beautiful items, and even visit with the sweet "shop" kitties (who seem to like to hang out near the nursery gift shop entrance) if you wish. All in all, a very special experience at this gem in Schulenberg. We will definitely make this our number one stop for meals (and to buy more plants) in Schulenberg when we return!

I thought they were my favorite part of the meal. They were just dense enough to give off a pan pizza taste, and had enough butter, garlic powder and parmesan cheese on top to get Paula Deen's attention. The salad that came with it was decent. Good thick bleu cheese dressing. Could've used some croutons though. The entree itself was good. The chicken wasn't crazy crispy, but by the time you soak fried chicken in marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese and bake it, you will lose crispness by nature, and that's with any restaurant. The meat wasn't dry, I will say that. Pasta that came with it was good as well. Price seems a little high though, and is my main criticism of this restaurant. $4.25 for a glass of unsweetened tea, and $17.64 for chicken parmesan. I did get the dinner portion, so I can't fault them too highly on that. That being said, the portion size was generous, the staff were friendly, and the ambiance of the restaurant was comfortable. All in all, Joe's is pretty good, and I wouldn't mind coming again.
