One of the white wines
Te-see B.

I was excited to check out this winery while visiting New York and meeting one of my favorite East Coast Yelpers for the first time in person. I love the wineries in Cali and was interested to see how they compared. Unfortunately, this one did not blow my doors off...Where shall I begin...First of all, I treated everyone to a "Full Tasting," which is supposed to include a breakdown and history of each of wine. Tristan, the general manager and owners son, presented the first wine with some history then "Poof," he was gone. From that moment on our tasting went downhill:( We tasted a few reds and whites but honestly, the best part of my visit was meeting Diane & Frank. I am in love with both of them. So, thank you Whitecliff Vineyard for that. Oh, and the AMAZING chicken quesadillas from the pop up Mexican restaurant!!! 10 stars! I am still dreaming about those... *Located off the beaten path but beautiful drive and area *Save your $$$ get the tasting without the extra info

Let's go to Whitecliff Vineyard!

10/13/24: The highlight of our Whitecliff visit was meeting up with CA Yelper Te-see and her sister. Each of us had the $23 Guided Tasting. We had four people in our group. The guided tasting was supposed to include any questions and walk us through the notes. In addition, this information is stated on the menu. Have been to many guided tastings, servers have always been very accommodating with wine information. The female server "C" or "K" appeared to be disinterested. Yes, she did come over to pour the wines. That's all that was done. I don't know if she was having a bad day or what. Plus, the place wasn't even crowded. So, I don't know what was happening. (FYI- I did even make a telephone reservation for the winery the day before with Christine). The winery did have a Mexican pop-up in the lower level. Their quesadillas were delish. In spite of the lack of any wine information from the server, I did purchase two bottles of (1) Cabernet Franc and (1) Two Cabs. Each bottle was over $30 each. For these prices, customer service should've been more accommodating on a guided tour. PS: I did come two years ago and it was a much better experience.

I visited this vineyard on a wine tour trip with BLK Getaway. The vineyard is owned by a family. One of the owners gave us a lesson on how the wine is made and we tried several of their wines. I enjoyed the wines. We had a variety of red and white wines. The vineyard was nice with a lot of land surrounding it. I purchased a bottle of Riesling because it was my favorite wine that I sampled. There was a food truck outside where you could purchase food. If I'm ever in the Hudson Valley area, I would visit again. I enjoyed my time here.

Stopped by Whitecliff Vineyard this past Saturday afternoon while visiting New Paltz for a long weekend. I am a big fan of Robibero vineyard and thought this place might be similar. The tasting room and outdoor patio/space at Whitecliff are much smaller compared to Robibero. It was also a much quieter and stuffier crowd. When we arrived, there were two other couples waiting to arrange a tasting and only one gentleman working the tasting counter inside. We waited patiently until another woman came up to help us. We explained we wanted to order glasses of wine (bottles are only sold to go) and told her the couple varieties we had in mind. She was reluctant to describe them and didn't even offer pouring a small taste before we agreed to it. If you are that sparing, just charge for individual samples. I decided on the award winning Vidal Blanc and my bf got one of their award wining reds. We took our glasses outside and sat at one of the tables on the lawn - you have a nice view of the mountains from the lawn. We decided to stay for a second glass before moving on to our next stop. My bf went inside to order our second glasses. The pours this second round were even stingier than the first. I saw an older group of people who had much generous pours than we did. Perhaps they were discriminating against us because we were younger or didn't do a tasting flight. Not sure I will ever come back here again. While the wine was good, the snooty staff was less desirable. Robibero is a much more pleasant and vibrant scene.

So this winery was tough for me to review. The wines were just ok to me... But the staff, gift shop and phenomenal views of the mountains gave them the 4 stars! They had tastings set up into categories and I of course selected the "sweets" for 12.00 and you got 6 small samples and quite honestly they just weren't all that sweet and the taste was ok at best. We did end up buying a bottle of the Lagrange. I did however have fun buying some unique things from their gift shop, so that made me happy! Hoping today's wineries bring more to the table than yesterday!!! :)

I would probably give Whitecliff only three stars, but their shop is very impressive as are the views. In warmer weather you could sit on their deck and enjoy an amazing view of the cliff face nearby. Their shop is stocked with all kinds of unique quality made items. Now for the wines... their list is quite impressive, and there will likely be something to impress anyone somewhere on this list. Tastings consist of six from this mammoth list, they break down the most popular into categories, of you can pick your own six at random. As I have experienced with other wineries with big wine lists, it is easy to choose the wrong wine and skip over something amazing. This is likely the case at Whitecliff as well. We tasted the sweet wines, and although many were good, there was little wow factor. I really wanted to try their reds, but I was torn and couldn't decide from the big list. I will say that my favorite was likely the sparkling moscato, and I don't normally enjoy sparkling wines. It wasn't over sweet and wasn't over bubbly. The process that they do this particular wine does not allow for it to be bottled and must be purchased by growler. If we lived nearby I would certainly consider such a purchase. I would likely try them again in the future, but would likely try a different group or create my own.

Best of Whitecliff flight. (Rosé in the wrong place?)

Nice views. Not great wine. Came here with some friends to try the tasting flights on a weekend trip to gardiner from the city. There were a few picnic tables on the grass and a few 2 person round tables on the patio. They were only letting one group into the building at a time so we had to wait a bit to go in an order our flights. When it was our turn to enter the building a women cuts in front of us and we were told to wait outside until she left the building. A few of us ordered the "best of whitecliff flights" The wine was served in little plastic cups that you pour into one wine glass. We were given a sheet of paper with the wine list and told that the cups of wine were placed in an order consistent with the list however the first cup of wine (which was supposed to be a Chardonnay ) was pink (and tasted like rosé which was supposed to be the second wine on the list). So that was a little confusing. It was like this on all the "best of Whitecliff" flights We also ordered the cheese package which came with prepackaged crackers and 2 cheeses. The cheeses were good but there were not enough crackers for the amount of cheese and we were not given any plates to eat from. We were disappointed with the size of the tasting pours and were not particularly impressed with any of the wines. The Cabernet franc has a bunch of sediment in it as well. (See pictures) Aside from the wine, we were also disappointed with the lack of music. It was eerily quiet... so much so that we could hear staff ask a woman sitting at a table far away (alone with her dog) three times if she was expecting anyone else to come. We thought this was rude. Not sure we would come back but hopefully others will have a better experience!

My boyfriend and I came here in the fall and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and our time here. The staff was knowledgeable and the wines were great! They did only offer outdoor seating, so we had to wait a minute to get a table but stayed for nearly 2 hours when we did. We did multiple tastings (they gave small cups and a wine glass to pour the little cups in) and sheets with info on all the wines. We ended up leaving with a few bottles. Overall, a great spot with a kind, knowledgeable staff, beautiful views and great wine!

Had a few hours before we needed to be anywhere so we ended up here on a warm September afternoon. There's a marvelous view from the veranda: tree covered slopes lead to a hard ridge line that dominates the scenery. Not sure what to make of the wines here: could be my taster is off, could be the Oaked Sey val Blanc was the only non-sparkling wine worth drinking; Awosting is agreeable for a sparkler. On the other hand, MLB was quite taken with the whole experience; nodding or pouting as the pours and descriptions continued. We left with Riesling, I hope she chose well :-) -- update: must have been something in the air that day, the Riesling was excellent Saturday evening after touristing...

A gorgeous.....GORGEOUS vineyard, with a breathtaking view; they have relaxing spacious areas laid out to just sit and take it all in. The inside is as beautiful as the outside, with a modern tasting bar. Checking in with the passport (normally $12 for 6) they have an expansive list, but operate on pre-set tastings (a blended flight for passports-a dry red list-dry white list-a rose-fruity-and create your own is more expensive). Gracious pours, we tried: -Reserve Riesling: dry finish -Seyval Blanc: very plain -Awosting White: the seyval makes it very fruity -Table Rock: exactly what it says-average table wine, has a peppery smell, but not in the taste -Malbec: smokey wonderful -Red Trail: a semi-sweet without an overpowering taste We started them at the beginning of our wine trail day, I wish we ended with them so we could have hung around with a glass of the Malbec, but mostly for the ambiance of it all, not specifically the wine. They were a bit pricey.

Our day started with a Chinese tea ceremony in the barn and then a catered lunch. About 6:30pm, the ceremony with a live music started followed by passed hors d'oeuvre, fresh oysters, and wood fired pizza. The wood fired pizza was very delicious and I enjoyed the blackened shrimp and the arancini. I tried the cider and the rosé, but they were too dry for my taste. Then at 7:45pm, we went into the reception pavilion. The menu consisted of a salad as first course, a duet plate of salmon and beef short rib for entree, and dessert. The summer citrus salmon with the multi grain pilaf was very good. After first dance, father and daughter dance, mother and son dance, and speeches, the DJ told us to step outside. After a few minutes, the sky exploded with light. It was a beautiful fireworks display from the hillside. The bathrooms were stocked with essentials in the toiletry baskets. Red Maple Vineyard offers a rustic barn and reception pavilion, massive green grounds, and a beautiful garden.
