I primarily train with Mike, whose patience, persistence and attention to detail brought me back to life after suffering an injury at the hands of a yoga instructor at a different studio in Cincinnati two years ago. I trust the instruction, advice and physical adjustments of each of these teachers at BodyMind Balance. I call them teachers and not instructors because I believe there is a grave difference: An instructor can go through the motions and dictate information to a class; but a teacher reaches his/her students through understanding and respect.

He doesn't hide his knowledge base, freely gives all he has to his students, and continues his formal education abroad to this day to stay relevant and current with Tai Chi practices in Asia. I also saw him for a series of Reiki treatments after I had a series of losses in my life in the family, when both my physical and spiritual side were struggling. This undoubtedly help fuel my progressive return to being, and I cannot recommend him enough on all accounts.

They specialize in several different types of movement including yoga, belly dancing and something called nia. I'm still not entirely sure what nia entails but it seems pretty popular in the neighborhood. The studio space is nice, easy to be comfortable in but unfortunately they have mirrors that are a little too short to be fully effective for dance and movement classes. I've danced with or taken workshops from several of the instructors. The dancers are not the best of the best (you usually have to travel far distances for the best workshops) but they are some of the best dancers in the city, friendly, have great curriculums and are great to work with.

As a client I feel completely seen at a soul level. There is a deep sense of peace and validation when you are acknowledged at this level. He has helped me discover and learn more about myself, learn how to access that serene place within myself that he calls soul awareness (via meditation) and have a deeper connection with my ancestors. When I feel "stuck" or unable to figure out what is next he has helped me find a clearer path and given me resources to move forward. Although it is not a replacement for therapy, Shamanic work dives deeper and reaches more nuance than psycho emotional work and allows for change that feels complete and whole.
